So, we did this today, and this review will be long so stay with me. The waterfall is gorgeous, but you only see it from a distance. The guide was wonderful, but this is not a hike, meaning there is more talking than walking. The garden is stunning. If you want to contribute to a non profit , and help this organization, then this is a good activity. If you are budget tight , but want to see similiar terrain and waterfalls you can actually get next to, and swim in ect, choose the nearby Twin Falls, as it is free. We enjoyed the activity and scenic gardens, and the chocolate was a nice touch. The plant life and history was interesting, if you have the budget for this, go for it, but there are many other water falls you can see on Maui up close at no charge. We glady made this donation and we loved the beauty.

This was by far the best experience we had on Maui. We love guided tours, and this did not disappoint. Our guide, Jesse ("Maui"), was extremely knowledgeable and personable, and we had a great time walking through the gardens and learning about the plants and history. The hike was not extremely challenging, which made it that much easier to keep looking at the lush beauty of the rainforest. It was raining during our hike, but Jesse brought us ponchos and the rain made the gardens all the more beautiful. The chocolate tasting was delicious, and we even got to make our own chocolate! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique experience on Maui led by a local. We had a 7 year old in our group and he was perfectly able to do the hike, and was kept engaged throughout the tour.

We had a wonderful hike with auntie, who told us the story behind the reservation and the current steps the group is taking to preserve the rainforest. It is a fairly easy hike and you get to learn about the benefits of cacao and get a chance to make your own chocolate. Highly recommend for those who are looking to do something that is outside of your typical tourist experience while in Maui!

We booked this hike because our hiking time was limited, but we wanted to enjoy the rainforest with coca plants and felt a desire to contribute to some conservation efforts. We've hiked in other rainforests in other parts of the world. This one is nothing special. The "hike" is relatively short. The vistas are not particularly inspiring, unless this is the only bit of jungle you have ever seen. The one waterfall is also nothing special. The featured plants are also not terribly unique. The tall trees were pretty, for sure, but we have had much better hiking in other places. The chocolate class is a bit of a joke. None of what they have is actually grown on site and the chocolate making experience was far from gourmet or even really authentic. Our guide was polite and earnest, but that doesn't really make up for paying nearly $100 per person (so-called donation) plus tip to walk through this small space. We were told the money is meant to restore these forgotten king's gardens, which are indeed overgrown with non-native species, but we wonder if that claim is on the same level of authenticity as the chocolate class. The proprietors ask that photos not be posted from such a sacred place, but I fear that might be because they would be less than inviting to future visitors. The few we took were not remarkable.

98% of folks love this tour, and give us a rave review, but as the old saying goes, beauty and fun is the in eye of the beholder. We truly wish you well and that you have a lovely rest of your stay while on Maui. Happy to gift you a refund of your donation if need be.

Wow this was amazing and exceeded my expectations entirely! The tour guide was a power house of knowledge on Hawaiian Culture, and really shared such a beautiful perspective of the Garden. Kings Gardens chocolate tasting was delicious and their homemade chocolate was the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommend this exclusive tour with an amazing waterfall view!! I would take this tour everyday if I could :)

This was a great experience! It was very educational and informative, beautiful hike through the rain forest, learning how the early royal Hawaiian people lived and believed and seeing all the different plants and giant ferns, that you’d see in a movie with dinosaurs... our guide Kona had a great sense of humor, but very knowledgeable of the land and plant life and the making of chocolate.. He even convinced us to try to make it ourselves, it tasted fantastic. Recommend this tour to anyone visiting Maui.

My husband and I went on The Kings Garden private waterfall and rainforest hike today (6/2/2022) and we had an excellent tour!! Our guide Kana was very knowledgeable of the garden and oh so funny with giving us information. He engaged our group to participate so we were learning as we hiked through. The was a magical amazing rainforest, filled plants, (6 types of ginger plants which I know I never seen before, to cocoa plants, a beautiful waterfall jus breathtaking!! Kana spoke of ancient Hawaiian culture and showed us how to make delicious chocolate within 10 minutes! The hike was easy but lush as you went through. We loved every moment of it! Thank you Kana truly enjoyed meeting you! Aloha 🤙🏽🫶🏽 Eleanor and Bobby Hammond from California.

My husband and I highly enjoyed our hike! An easy walking journey but don’t forget to wear bug spray and proper shoes. Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and funny which made him easy to interact with. The scenery is beautifully kept and untouched by modern society. Plus, you get to taste chocolate which is a bonus! We learned the donation goes to maintaining the preservation of King’s Gardens so your contribution goes to a worthy and great cause!

It’s hard to classify this tour - it’s better understood as a cultural experience - learning the history of the island from the people and the flora. Yes you walk through rainforest and yes chocolate is a key element but the beauty of it shines through the hosts’ love of the island and its special power, and the invitation to bring out your own manna to share. Realistically Maui is in fifth gear most of the time and this experience will slow you down and make you savor the time you spend there. Jesse was a superb guide. Highly recommended.
