Hi, we took the Longtail Boat Tour which meets outside of a specific Elefin Coffee shop. We walked down an alley and along a raised platform to the dock where the boat was. We went down canals and saw a variety of homes, empty land or businesses along the canals. We also stopped at a temple with the largest Buddha in Thailand and another stop where you could shop, get a snack or use the restroom, and feed the fish. Then back to the original starting point.
Notes: I would not recommend this if you are physically challenged since you will have to get on and off the boat 3 times. Also would not be good for small children unless you are helping/watching them constantly.
Stop 2: There are no rails to protect people from falling in the canal at the very small shops there. Basically it is wooden walkways then a fall into the water if you are not paying attention. If you walk farther down, there is a bridge that goes over the canal. You can get some nice photos from here. Be careful since motorized two wheeled vehicles zip up either side. You should be on the stairs side of this not very wide bridge. There are a lot of fish in the water and you can buy fish food from the vendors.
The tour itself is highly recommended since it is inexpensive, you get to ride a Longtail, see a side of life which can't be seen from land and guided by friendly locals.
We sat very close to the front and the boat can bounce in the water when hitting bigger waves from other boats so you could get very lightly wet or sprayed but it's Bangkok so it might feel good. When going down the canals and encountering other boats, the boats would slow down to minimize bouncing.
One other thing, after exiting the boat at the end, we had to leave the area by going over a gate. The gate is about the height of straddling a bike or a little less. I can understand having a gate to keep small children from the water but couldn't it have been opened and people can walk out. This definitely would rule out people with disabilities or limitations. Also, why was there a raised walkway on the the way in/out towards the boat dock. On the way out, we just walked on the ground next to it.
Anyways, I really liked the tour and recommend it for capable people.

A 2 hour tour of otherwise unseen Bangkok. I had a great time, our guid spoke very good English and clearly knew the history of everything. Great trip for able bodied people as quite a bit hopping on / off a moving boat due to other river/ canal traffic
Well worth the money and seeing the huge statue of Buddha close up was great. A real eye opener compared to the 5* hotels and bright lights downtown
Would recommend if you like to see traditional life up close
Thank you

This was a surprisingly awesome tour! We stopped at the temple with the biggest Buddha in Thailand, and it was so awe-inspiring. First, we fed the fish outside before going in, and they were ravenous. There is also a giant emerald temple sculpture inside, and we even got to see monks chanting. Joyce was an awesome tour guide! I recommend taking the 4:30pm tour since the temple is much less crowded, and the sunset behind the giant Buddha is beautiful.

I recently participated in a Bangkok Canal Tour, hoping for a unique perspective on the city from its historic waterways. Unfortunately, the experience fell significantly short of expectations for several reasons.
Firstly, there was not enough time spent on the boat itself. The allure of a canal tour is to explore the intricate network of waterways that define Bangkok's charm and history. However, the actual time on the boat was disappointingly brief, giving us only a fleeting glimpse of life along the canals. The majority of the tour was spent on land, which was not what I had anticipated.
Additionally, an excessive amount of time was allocated to visiting temples. While the temples are undoubtedly beautiful and culturally significant, the tour's itinerary included too many of them. This imbalance meant that we spent long periods walking through temple grounds instead of enjoying the scenic and serene canal views from the boat. The experience felt more like a temple tour with a brief boat ride rather than a true canal tour.
Moreover, the tour was marred by poor time management, particularly due to other customers not adhering to the set meeting times and places. This caused unnecessary delays and extended waiting periods, significantly cutting into our already limited time on the water. The lack of punctuality and coordination was frustrating and detracted from the overall experience.
Given these issues—insufficient boat time, an overemphasis on temples, and excessive waiting due to poor organization—I cannot recommend this canal tour.

Dear Heike,
Thank you for leaving a review, although it's not the kind of review we are always hoping for.
We are sorry to hear that the canal trip did not meet your expectations.
If time permits, we usually only get off the boat at Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen where the tallest Buddha in Bangkok can be found. So I am a bit surprised to hear that the trip included 'too many' temples. Perhaps you can reach out to me directly as I would like to have more information and discuss it with the guide.
Meeting time for your tour start was at 9:30 AM with a 10-minute grace period (which is also mentioned on the tour page and in the confirmation we sent after booking). We clearly warn participants about Bangkok's notorious traffic, but it can still happen people are a bit delayed, so we think it's fair to provide a 10-minute grace period.
Despite your negative experience on our tour, I hope you had a wonderful stay in Thailand.
With warm regards,
Dave

Hello, I would love to commend Miss Rampal Chanthornpratak as a goddess among longtail boat tours. She was oh so kind, caring, and competent as she guided our experience along the Bangkok Canal. The boat is a bit hard to enter and exit, and Miss Chanthornpratak was so helpful as I needed a steady hand to get in and out of the boat. We were able to stop and visit "Artist's House" on our way, and she enabled us to spend a bit of time there to buy and support local artists. It also provided an opportunity to glimpse old world charm in a green setting; however, without her careful preparation and instruction, the time would not have unfolded as well as it did. Well done, Miss Rampal Chanthornpratak on your excellent service and as a representative of your wonderful country. I would highly recommend going on the longtail boat tour due to the incredible flair and gentle guidance of the tour guide.

Very interesting trip on the canals learning about the history of the “khlongs” in this area of Bangkok. Tack was our guide and he was great - we highly recommend booking your tour with him. He was very knowledgeable and we were very interested to learn about the royal, more formal temples versus the community temples. We saw monitor lizards sunning themselves and fed the fish in the art workshop area- this part along the canal is a heritage area preserved in the old style and we also got to fed the cat fish - also protected. For me the highlight was seeing the 69 metre tall Buddha. A tour not to be missed!

The 2 hour boat tour consisted of 2 stops (one at the big Buddha and another at the artist market). The view from the canal is amazing and we had a chance to see thai life. I definitely recommend doing this activity in the morning as it’s not energy intensive.

The long tail boat we boarded was very noisy so we could not hear the tour guide. It also smelled awful due to the engine, so I would recommend a face mask to protect from the pollution. We were not offered life jackets, although other tour providers had all their guests wear one. One guest on our tour asked the tour guide for a life jacket and the guide made jokes and did not offer one until another guest pushed for them. This was completely unprofessional. We did not stop at the Buddhas / Temples which I personally didn’t realise when reading the description. We stopped for 30 minutes at the floating market area with a temple, however, we were marched through on a circular walk and had no time to browse or purchase anything. All in all it was disappointing and felt extremely rushed. With not being able to hear the tour guide (which he was aware of) the tour felt pointless. We could have hired a boat instead. One plus was by booking the 3:30pm tour we did see the temple at sunset from the boat at the end of the tour, which was beautiful.

The canal boat tour was really amazing! Our guide was really helpful and had lots of information for us. Baan Silapin is a very interesting place with so much to explore. We had free time to roam around which was amazing. Furthermore we got to go inside a small temple near Baan Silapin and learned a lot about traditions around the temple. The boat tour had so many magical moments like when we first saw the Big Buddha from far away and later on from close sight. I went on the tour starting at 3.30pm so when we came back to the dock in the end I was able to see Wat Arun in beautiful slowly setting sunlight.
The only downside was the bad air and therefore gray sky but that's in no way the fault of the organizer. Just as a small tip for future participants to go on the tour in a season with clearer air so the views will be even more amazing! I will definitely come back to participate in the boat tour again when the sky is clear!

Guide was very forthcoming. Sadly not everybody heard all speaks as the long boat's motor makes quite much noise. We took an 12:30PM reservation which might not been the best idea for the sun being straight up. Luckily lockgates where open for us and so we had time to visit the new big buddha statue that was started in 2017 and is called the covid buddha. Tour also goes to the artist town of Bangkok which is a nice spot to relax and spend some money on local handcrafted works.
