About
Sprawling El Alto, just outside La Paz, is one of Bolivia's fastest-growing, most fascinating cities. It's here you'll find Aymara fortune tellers, or "amautas," who'll read you your future, as well as the world's highest urban cable car and a wealth of colorful markets. On this 4.5-hour, guided tour, experience the wonders of this city that sits at 13,600 feet (4,121 meters), and sample traditional paceño snacks while weaving your way through the town.

What to expect
  • Choose from a morning or afternoon departure and meet your guide at your hotel before making your way to El Alto, home of the aymara culture. Learn about the famous aymara fortune tellers known as "amautas" and ask them about how your future looks.  Next, head up to the highest urban cable car on earth and take in views from the panoramic station that's located sky high. You'll enjoy the city from a whole new perspective, which includes a memorable view of the Andes Mountains. This tour also includes stops in the hanging houses, where you'll have a chance to observe local life.  You'll have time to wander the bustling and eclectic neighborhood known as Buenos Aires, where you'll visit a local market and learn about regional products and culinary ingredients.  The tour ends with a traditional paceño's snack, the “sandwich de chola”, which is called this way because it was originally prepared by women dressed with polleras (skirts) called “cholas”. After we'll return to your hotel.
