This was a great tour - Jimmy and his driver picked us up right on time on the morning of the trip in a comfortable town car. Then they took us up the Great Wall on what seems to be a private way up the...More
If you’d like to beat the crowds and experience the Great Wall as guards did in ancient times, this is the Great Wall hiking trip for you. Starting from the less-visited Huanghuacheng Great Wall, you’ll follow the Wall through spectacular wild and watery landscapes with few other visitors. Led by an experienced hiking professional, you’ll cover both restored and unrestored sections on this private tour.
Meet your private guide in your hotel lobby for the drive to the Huanghuacheng section of the Great Wall, about 37 miles (60 kilometers) from Beijing. Named for the yellow flowers that bloom in midsummer, it’s been known as the Great Wall Under the Water since the Xishuiyu dam submerged several sections in 1974.
You’ll follow a mountain path to the steep and towering Great Wall, with no parapets on either side, and hike through some of the most spectacular landscapes to be found around Beijing. Enjoy plenty of stops for photos.
The hike lasts between five and six hours, and your guide provides snacks if you get hungry before your included Chinese lunch. Once you’re done, you’ll be presented with a certificate and hop back in your climate-controlled vehicle for the drive back to Beijing.

Early in the morning they came to pick me up at the hotel and we started the trip to a small town near the Great Wall. From there, half an hour walking to an entrance and once entering, there are no words to describe what...More
