About
The Great Wall of China is an ancient fortification, more than 13,000 miles (21,000 kilometers) in length—it’s also China’s top attraction. Parts of the wall are in poor condition or else crowded with visitors. But, on this guided tour, you get to visit the quieter, under-the-radar Mutianyu section, which has also undergone a complete restoration.

  • Easy pickup and drop-off from central Beijing
What to expect
Meet your guide and enjoy the scenic ride to the Great Wall at Mutianyu. At the site, you have plenty of time to explore the ancient, stone-and-earth barricade. Unlike more crowded parts of the wall that are closer to Beijing, the quieter Mutianyu is off-the-beaten-track, so you can walk around at your leisure without jostling for space. This section of the wall was built more than 1,400 years ago during the Qin Dynasty and then refortified in 1404. Mutianyu is also one of the longest and most picturesque wall sections. It has been fully restored, so you are able to see it just as it existed in ancient times. The surrounding countryside is also famous for its fragrant pines and cypress trees. There are no less than 23 watchtowers—some you’ll be able to climb for unforgettable views. An authentic local lunch is included.

    Mutianyu Great Wall
Stop: 5 hours - Admission excluded
Take Mubus to get to the Mutianyu Great Wall from Beijing downtown. Upon arrival, your tour guide will save you hassle by buying the tickets for you, then drive you to the foot of the Mutianyu Great Wall, instead of making you queue for the shuttle bus. Once you've ascended the Wall, see and climb the impressive defensive watch towers to take in the serene scenery of streams and lush greenery that surround this section of the Great Wall. After climbing the Great Wall, you can come back to the “Mubus Family” to relax. Located in the center of the Mutianyu scenic area, it is a special lounge area only reserved for the Mubus travelers, offering them with a comfortable place to rest, a restaurant with local specialties, beer and coffee. When you have buffet lunch on the viewing platform, you will appreciate a very magnificent scenery by the intersection of the two sections of the Great Wall here, Mutianyu Great Wall and Jiankou Great Wall which’s well-known “steepest Great Wall of China”. This is a memorable place to take photos.

Tony was great! Can’t beat this tour for the price. As stated, no extra tourist stops. You get up to 4-4.5 hours on the wall, which was plenty. I’d recommend taking the chair lift/toboggan (120RMB), this would have been perfect amount for a round trip walk. I took the cable car and was done relatively early. The walk up isn’t difficult but taking the lift will save you time that you can spend on the wall. If you’re feeling brave, you can climb over a gate at tower 20 and keep going for some more amazing views. Lunch was basic but good, even if you don’t get it with your ticket you can still purchase something for 30-50RMB. Only issue I had was my reservation said 730 departure, and other guests said 8 (left at 810), so I sat there and waited 40 extra minutes. Would recommend you reach out and confirm departure when you book

Great value for money compared to other tours. As advertised, no detours, no tourist traps, tickets for shuttle, cable car, chair lift, toboggan as sold, no upselling. Well organised, cannot commend enough. Tony was an excellent guide with a great sense of humour. He gave clear guidance on the various ways to enjoy the Great Wall. We chose the cable car up (100 yuan), walked up to Tower 20, walked down to Tower 6 and took the toboggan down (100 yuan).

Parts of the wall can be quite challenging and steep. Not for the faint hearted. Would recommend bringing your own food or trying out some of the local restaurants. Minimal refreshments available on the wall and certainly some upselling+++

I would like to thank Mubus tours for allowing us to reschedule our tour. We lived 1.5hrs away and was extremely late the first time. They rescheduled us two days later with no extra charge. We are very grateful. I would definitely recommend their service and will be booking with them again when I revisit. Thank you!

Had a great time with our guide and our trip to the Mutianyu portion of the wall. We left at 10:30 AM on a sunny day in downtown Beijing and made it to the Wall in about 1.5 hrs. We had about 3 - 4 hours to explore which was plenty of time and this time of the year was perfect for the crowds.

Lunch was provided and our guide provided many interesting facts about the history of the wall as provided information on ticket services. Would definitely recommend to someone looking for an easy and streamlined way to visit this world wonder.

Hands down for MuBus and biggest shoutout to our awesome tour guide LEO! Thank you so much for guiding us from start to finish and recommending places to visit and eat Peking Duck. You kept us laughing throughout the trip and when there is a concern or problem, you will reassure us there is no problem, to relax and to follow you. Sorry for the late review, but I will definitely come back to Great Wall soon, book MuBus and look for Leo.

Thank you so much!

i booked my trip on the MUBUS website. They called back a few hours later to confirm my reservation. We met at the swissotel at 7:30. There were several foreigners and we were encouraged to stick together. The tour guide Claire was awesome! She answered all the questions and helped as much as she could! They provide a buffet lunch at the MUBUS restaurant. It was pretty good although the drinks were separate cost.. This is a very helpful and well organized tour!

The point of meeting was right outside Starbucks. So we grab our breakfast from there. Through the journey, Fred our guide narrated the history of China with relevance to the Great Wall. He was very well informed and could answer all our queries. The tour was well organised and Fred was very professional. I intend to go again with my family.

It was a great adventure with Mubus. I highly recommend the tour with Michael. He tried always to fulfil everybody’s interests and needs . He gave us a really brief but warm introduction to the Great Wall on the bus. I have also bought the 40 minutes history tour about the Great Wall which was awesome explained by Michael and worthwhile. I highly recommend the tour with Michael.

We met the bus at the pick up point, the coach was clean and comfortable.
Our guide was Tony, he was friendly and had a good sense of humour.
We picked the whole package which included lunch.
We chose to go chair lifts up and toboggan back down, Tony sorted all the tickets out for us.
The Wall was amazing!!
What a fantastic experience and a massive tick off the bucket list.
The lunch was not amazing, but it was nice. Not sure I would do lunch again though.
The whole tour was great, such good value. Go for it you won’t be disappointed.

Highly highly would recommend booking this tour! My friend and I booked ticket C, which included mostly everything! ( RT transportation, entrance ticket, guided tour for 40 mins, and lunch) we loved it! Best option! This was our first time traveling to China. Michael was our tour guide and he made sure everyone was taken care of. We bought the chair lift + Taboogen ride down and the cable car RT (also worth it) we were able to walk from where the cable car to the end of Mutianyu wall and back to the cable car to return just in time for lunch (30 mins to spare) walked around the shop at the top. Food was also very delicious, we sat down as a group and it felt amazing as everyone at the table was getting along well and socializing! Lunch does not include drinks (soda/beer) but you can buy that separately. Overall, amazing tour company!

We had a fantastic tour to the GWOC & our guide Leo (Liao) was entertaining, knowledgeable & very helpful in ensuring that we are able to do all the activities without compromising on any aspect of the tour. I would strongly recommend this tour especially if you had Leo as your guide. Lunch was really worthwhile & the tour was great value overall.
