Personal Attention Awesome Day on The Great Wall
Wow James, Our private trekking tour from the “wild” portion of the Great Wall in Jiankou to the restored beautiful Mutianyu Great Wall will forever be in our memory. My wife and I have hiked many places in the world but this was one of the more challenging nearly 8 miles with the equivalent 119 floors elevation change according to our I-Phone. The views were incredibly spectacular of the snaking Great Wall as it winds from mountain top tower to tower teetering on the precipices of the wild mountain ridges. James’s stories and history of the many sections of the Wall made this spectacular hike one to cherish. My wife and I are in our late 50’s and we felt very safe as James kept to our pace giving us time to rest and take photos of amazing views. You definitely need to be prepared with comfortable hiking boots, a day pack with water and snacks, hat, and layered clothing with long sleeve shirt and light jacket in October for the cooler forested Jiankou climb. Once we peaked at one the towers, the lack of shade on the scrub brush dryer side leading to Mutianyu meant a warmer walk where we shed our jackets. The downward side of the hike was welcomed but it is steep including many stairs and uneven walking surfaces on the restored wall. We chose to walk the entire way to the Mutianyu village and not take the cable car. Our tired legs were a little shakey when we reached the shuttle to take us to our private car. Our Chinese dinner and local beer really completed our incredible day. Thank you James for the best day on the Great Wall.

    Great Day
Fantastic day out with Peter. Great weather, superb views on a quiet unspoilt part of the Great Wall. Private driver and guide highly recommended. Our guide Peter spoke good English and was able to provide much information on the history of the Wall. He looked after us brilliantly all day and was keen to take photos of us at every opportunity.

    Best day in China!
I can't recommend this tour enough! Peter was our guide and he was excellent! He was extremely knowledgable, friendly, and fun to hang out with. We started with a hike to the old Jiankou Great Wall and made our way to the more well known Mutianyu Great wall. Jiankou was my favorite part - not a lot of people and that part of the wall is not maintained, so it had a lot of character. About half way through the hike we took a break in the shade and Peter gave us much needed snacks. After the hike he took us to a really great restaurant on the way back to Beijing. I'm vegan and I was especially happy with how accommodating Peter was when he ordered our food. Our driver was also really nice. He and Peter made sure we had enough water at all times in the car and to/from the hike. We were given several bottles to take with us during the hike as well as hiking poles. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to take the 'road less traveled,' but not to anyone who doesn't want to work for it - the hike was not easy. ;-)

Highlight of my trip to China!
This was easily the highlight of my trip to China, which included all the main touristy sights in Beijing and Shanghai. The whole trip was fun, but this hike was exceptional. My friend and I had Peter as a guide. He was great! He was really knowledgeable, helpful, and patient with all of our picture taking, provided snacks in the middle of the hike, and ordered us a delicious lunch at the end. The scenery was incredible and hiking on the old part of the wall was an amazing experience. I enjoyed the entire trip - including the drive through the mountains to access the hiking trail, the hike up the mountain to reach the wall, and popping up at a watch tower to awe inspiring mountain and old wall views, not to mention the entire rest of the trek along the wall. Highly recommend this trek!

    Awesome Hiking Adventure!!
My wife and I went with Peter on a two day hike and had a phenomenal time!! Peter was amazing and very kind and knowledgeable. The first day was great and we saw barely any other people. The second day we hiked a bit of a nicer part of the wall but there were more tourists that day. Both days were great though and the food and place where we stayed were so good!! Highly recommend this trip and ask for Peter if you can 👍🏽😁

Incredible experience from start to finish!
James our guide was a wealth a information, encouraging, supportive and just all round awesome. He tailored the trek to our pace and made it the most incredible experience along the Great Wall. Our driver, farmhouse hosts, restaurant and accommodation owners were also fantastic and filled us to the brim with delicious food, drinks, provided clean rooms, comfortable bedding and car transport. Highly recommend Great Wall Trekclub if you want to really see the wall away from crowds and learn about its history.

James, Dennis and co. are great!!
I spent a week with James, Dennis and Discover Adventure trekking the Great Wall from September 7th-15th to raise money for Alzheimer's Society. They had amazing humour, and you could tell they love what they do. From beginning to end they were both so attentive and had bundles of knowledge. Both were very caring and generous as well when we were struggling up and down the wall. Our bus driver and luggage man were also good. Highly recommend.

    Brilliant!
James and Dennis from Discover Adventures were absolutely brilliant! We did a 6 day trek on remote areas of the Great Wall with them, and spent a total of 8 days together. They were friendly, approachable, funny, knowledgeable, helpful (even with questions on trips we'd organised in other cities they weren't joining us on). You'd be lucky to get these guys as guides. Thanks so much James, Dennis, and the crew!

The Great Wall At It's Best!
Just when I thought I have seen the best of the Great Wall James still surprises me! This is an amazing hike. You can see two different parts of the wall and how they converge. This hike has you walking on some of the oldest parts straight into the more recent Ming Dynasty built sections. The path was beautiful with cool winds and breathtaking views! This is also a good place for camping and enjoying the area for more than just a day. We wrapped up this hike in the local village with probably one of the best Chinese meals I have had since living in Beijing!

    Amazing Tour
We had James as our tour guide and he was amazing. We were really not prepared with proper hiking boots and clothing and James really helped us along the way. He has completed this trek many times so is very knowledgeable and has a very caring nature. We were picked up at our hotel right on time and the car was very clean and our driver was great. We felt safe in the car the whole trip. Once we arrived at the starting point, there was quite a lot of bush to walk through. It’s not an easy walk up but once again, James was great and really helped us get through it. Once you get to the top you realise that all the hard work was worth it because the views are spectacular. We walked along sections of the Great Wall that have not been repaired and we pretty much had the Wall to ourselves the whole time as we only passed one other person on the Wall toward the end of the trek. James provided much appreciated assistance, water and snacks along the way. We were also provided with certificates of completion which was a nice touch. After completing the trek, James took us to a cafe for lunch and we still talk about the lunch as being the best food that we have had so far on the holiday. If you are after a really special memorable day then I highly recommend James and this tour.

    Great Wall Tour
Our time on the wall with James was great! He was very supportive, let us take our time, very knowledgeable about history. We went to lunch in the most gorgeous restaurant after our hike and he picked out the best food. I would highly recommend this tour. It is a but difficult so it would be wise to have hiking experience especially up hill

    An Incredible Experience
My partner and I booked the private tour and had James as a guide. He is an incredibly knowledgeable and friendly guide who caters the whole day to you. The hike was almost completely deserted until you reach the very touristy Mutianyu section, and the area we covered was stunning. James took us to a local restaurant after and even helped ensure the food was gluten free due to a food allergy (not an easy thing in China)! I would 100% recommend this company, and I'm already planning to do another hike with them when we return to China.
