Cajon del Maipo Day Trip from Santiago
From US$109.99
Explore the natural beauty of the Cajón del Maipo canyon on this full-day guided tour. Enjoy comfortable transport from Santiago and a picnic with Chilean wines at the Embalse el Yeso reservoir. Visit the tranquil mountain town of San José de Maipo, where you’ll taste traditional empanadas before your return to the capital city.
What to Expect
Start your day with easy hotel pick-up in Santiago, and sit back as your van climbs the Andes to the valley of Cajón del Maipo. Your guide will fill you in on the history, geology, and wildlife of the region as you walk around the Embalse el Yeso reservoir. It’s no wonder this spot is a traveler’s favorite, with its turquoise waters set in stark contrast to the snow-capped peaks that surround it. Your guide will lay out a picnic of fruits, cheeses, and other tasty treats, and you’ll sip Chilean wines with a view of the reservoir.
Your tour continues in the quaint Andean town of San José de Maipo, which dates back to 1792 and played a key role in Chile’s fight for independence. Explore the central plaza and shop for souvenirs made by local artisans. Sample empanadas before your scenic ride back to Santiago.

It is not at all strenuous. The drive is around 2.5-3 hours one way and depends on traffic in Santiago.

You will walk on dirt so just wear hiking shoes or sneakers. We went prepared for the weather, so just bring exactly what they tell you to bring and you should be fine.
