Anibal was a wonderful tour guide, full of energy and knowledge. This mountain hike was not for the faint of heart. Extreme altitude and steady incline the whole way. Anibal gave me a walking stick + lots of altitude essential oils to help. You can take a horse to the top, but must carry extra cash. I did not make it all the way up, but 2/3s of the way. Still enjoyed myself and the steady pace, "little by little" I kept trying to go. Long day, bumpy, windy roads. Breakfast and lunch were okay. If you want to get a great hike and some rural/farm views outside the city, I would recommend this trip.

Enthusastic and encouraging guides (Anibal and Bryant) and an expert driver (Sergio) made this trip so much more than a hike to a beautiful spot. Like the best tours, our guides made it feel like an adventure while also providing all the safety and guidance they could. The views, the interactions with locals (who can seemingly will themselves up the mountain without raising their heart rates) and the experience can not be beat. Book them right now!
I noticed as we went up the mountain that other travelers didn't have nearly as supportive or hands-on guides. Work with these guys!

Gunter of Rainbow Mountain Travels was an excellent, knowledgeable guide. He was supportive during what was a demanding trek and took time to take our photographs. I would definitely recommend this company.

I originally selected the 7am departure but changed to 4am and was very glad I did so. We had two tour guides (C)annibal and Bryant. Cannibal was the lead guide and he was full of energy which really lit up the tour bus. We had breakfast and got to rainbow mountain around 915am, and a few of us decided to hike instead of riding the horses. Cannibal stayed behind to make sure guests riding horses all got horses, and Bryant hiked with us to make sure we were ok. I think none of the guests have been to elevation that high, we started at 4400m elevation and to the top was 5036m so over 600m elevation gain. I hike a lot but I wasn’t sure how my body was going to react, luckily I was fine and made to the peak in about 1.5 hours, the hike was mostly flat with some hills. The last section of the hike is not reachable by horse, so guests had to hike two parts, one to the lower part and one to the peak, they were quite steep. The tour had oxygen masks prepared just in case luckily no one in my group needed it that day. So the tip for this tour is the hike is not for everyone, depends on how your body reacts to high altitude and your general health status, it might be a good idea to take the horses (it’s about 100 soles for round trip). Another tip is since guests have to hike the last sections, if your body can handle it, make sure to hike to the peak, the view is way better and you will be wowed. The hike down was much easier. Since the tour involves some challenging elements, both Cannibal and Bryant were very attentive throughout the hike to make sure everyone was ok and did not fall behind. Overall I really enjoyed the tour and I think the guides did a great job. One suggestion to the operator is gratuity, since there were 2 guides and 1 driver, I wanted to tip them but with diff amounts, but it was difficult since at the end the drop off was quick and I thought it would be awkward to hand diff ppl diff amounts while everyone was watching. So if there were a tip box of sorts in the van it be much easier.

Ruben was a fantastic guide. One of the other trekkers in our group developed altitude sickness and he gave her oxygen and got her back down on horseback. Rainbow Mtn is 16,550 feet high. Be sure to adapt ti the 11,200 feet altitude in Cusco first. The trek around Rainbow along the saddle to see the Red Valley is sooooo worth it.

This was an absolutely amazing experience! Anibal was the best guide we could have ever asked for. He played us fun inspirational music on the hike up and made sure we were all doing okay. At the top he helped us take pictures and was a lot of fun to be around. This was a once in a life time experience.
