Great half day tour from San Pedro de Atacama
A great, easy walk through spectacular red, green and white hues with spectacular landforms and a chance to see amazing petroglyphs from some of Chilies original inhabitants. As a professional geologist I enjoyed the technical aspect of the rock formations and my wife loved the colors and land forms. A tour for all that we found much more interesting and fun than some of the more popular tours that cost a lot more.

Lots of Penguins, Long Boat Ride, Dress Warm
This was a 6:30 AM shore excursion with Holland America from Punta Arenas. The Catamaran ride was 2+ hours each way in moderate sea conditions. There was lots of sea motion, but nobody suffered motion sickness. This is a very popular tour and the boat was very crowded. There are two restrooms onboard for 250 passengers.sated on two levels. There is not much to see on the way to the island so pick a seat in the middle of the boat on the lower deck if you are sea motion sensitive. A snack bar is available and an adequate box lunch is provided for the return trip. There are lots of Magellanic penguins on the island, but the chicks had all departed by late February when I did this tour. We had about an hour on the island and that was quite enough. Dress warm in layers, wear gloves and head protections. The winds are quite strong most of the time and this tour is frequently cancelled due to weather. The temperature was in the upper 40's Fahrenheit, but if felt much colder due to the wind.

We had an amazing experience seeing the beautiful penguins and birds of Magdalena!
We lucked out with good weather on our tour, a gentle sea and beautiful sunrise on the way to the two islands. On Magdalena the penguins were everywhere, around their burrows, at watch, grooming or resting. They are enchanting to see, and we had plenty of time to enjoy them. Sebastian, our guide on the Tierra del Fuego, has a deep knowledge of the many birds and animals of Magdalena, to give us insight into what we were seeing. On the return trip he pointed out a surfacing sei whale, which was exciting! The crew was very friendly and helpful as we entered and exited the boat, and altogether the experience was a highlight of our visit to the amazing country of Chile.

Excellent morning tour to see a ton of penguins!
This morning trip was an excellent addition to our Punta Arenas stay. We met at the Solo Expeditions house (seemed part of a hotel?) a few blocks from the main square in Punta Arenas. This was at 6:15am. A bus took us to the ferry to get to Magdalena Island. We got an hour to spend on Magdalena Island to walk the roped off path for the tourist. You do need to stay five meters away from the penguins. It was absolutely awesome! They were all doing their penguin business - best building, lounging, fighting, howling - and weren’t at all concerned we were there. After the island the ferry goes by another island to look at the seals there. You can’t get off but there are a ton of seals and birds. The boat was super rocky there so be prepared for that. We were back around 10:45am. Great little add-on to our Punta Arenas trip!

Great Tour to get insights to the culture and see the Moai's The Guide was a very knowledgeble descent from one of the tribes and ran the Tour in spanish and English. I liked all of it beside the weather. Unluckily it rained all day and we got completely drenched.

          Explore it on your own!
We decided to go by car, on our own, and it was the best decision! I went to the Tourist Information agency in San Pedro de Atacama, across from the Plaza de San Pedro de Atacama church, and they gave me all the needed information, including that we needed to book the time on the website and arrive at Socaire's ticket booth 1 hour earlier to retrieve the ticket.

Disappointed in the Santiago de city tour
Firstly, when the WhatsApp message came for pick up time, it was very vague. It said 8:40 AM to 8:50 AM and the bus was waiting from 8:30 AM.. our guide appeared to speak English. He either chose to not understand when questions were asked of him or if he did, he understood whatever he felt like understanding.. we were told that we were going to go to various places. We ended up spending over an hour waiting for changing of the guards. We went very early to the square where the cathedral is, which happens to be a focal point of Santiago and it was closed when we asked what time it opened he said 10, but we couldn’t wait instead we ended up spending half an hour waiting for the change of the guards just down the road. We were instead of taking to this antiquated pharmacy, in lieu of the museum and I imagine his intention was to engage me instead he suggested that I put myself on the scale that still works. Anybody with any sense would tell you never to ask a woman to get on a scale and before you read this and think I’m overweight I run 5K a day and do yoga I have no weight issue . We asked to stop at the Central market. We were told it is prohibited because they had had one of their previous participants be mugged there on a sidenote, myself and family as well as another participant in the group went back and had no trouble as long as we kept close to each other and tucked everything in. We were supposed to go to see the cultural park when I asked about it I was hushed and when I complained about it, I was told that the guy claimed that nobody wanted to go. I ended up going on my own.. furthermore we were taken to one market shop that was incredibly expensive. The blue store! later on my walk to the market. I found a very similar store that was locked just like that one and was able to purchase the same item for a fraction of the cost.. in fact, on a sidenote, it seemed that once no one in the group purchased anything the tour guide brushed us off, which was when he hushed me about the cultural park. We’ve been touring South America. This is our fifth country and anytime we asked the tour guide to drop us off in a certain location. They were more than willing. He left us at that blue store and told us to walk to conception point.. when I addressed these issues with the tour company, they were left unheard.

Picturesque, organized, not as many penguins as expected
It was a nice little trip although I expected to see more penguins. The boat ride was super warm and had hot drinks available to drink. When we disembarked my husband and I tried to stay at the back of the crowd and walk really slow to hopefully maximize our time on the Island and be less intimidating to the penguins away from the crowd. This worked somewhat. Once you make the loop you can't start over and are herded back onto the boat so you may as well make the most of it. There were more cormorants than penguins, however we were there at a time that the penguins were still sitting on their eggs. I had binoculars and was able to see a huge group of penguins on a far off beach on the island so we're definitely just seeing a small sample of the cute little guys.

          Lifetime experience!
This was such a great excursion! The weather had canceled the trips the day before so we were so lucky to be able to go. They spent time on the boat ride over giving us lots of information about the penguins and their nests. What a cool lifetime experience!

I would go again with Pablo, the tour guide, but would never go again with the same driver.
Pablo was a great guide, he was knowledgeable and shared a lot of interesting information. He was trying to guide using 3 different languages so he was very busy going from group to group to repeat details. He did a great job at this except on the bus as he was at the front and we were at the back. The late breakfast was fantastic. Nicely set out on a table with a mountain view. Fresh scrambled eggs and coffee were prepared as well as breads, jams, fruit, meat and cheese. It was really great. The biggest downfall of this trip was the driver. He was driving way too fast for the (washboard) road conditions and we did not feel like he was always in control. We have him clocked at doing 87MPH. I said to another in the group that on the way out I felt like there were a few times that all 4 tires were off the ground, and their response was "I think you are right". On the return trip at one point the big travel van actually slid around a corner towards the huge cliff. Everyone gasped. I don't stress easy in a vehicle but I definitely felt unsafe with this driver.

          Captain Fernando was awesome
The boat was comfortable with a good guide. We had beautiful weather but the boat is ready for days that aren’t as nice if you run into them. The island is literally packed with penguins and birds making for endless amazing photo opportunities. Once back onboard they offer coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cookies. No, it isn’t gourmet by any means but still is nice. After this, a quick trip over to see a large colony of sea lions to take photos before the trip home. I wanted to specifically shout out captain Fernando. He gave my daughter a penguin stuffed animal and let her and me take photos driving the boat which was amazing. He was incredibly kind and went above and beyond for us. We are very grateful.

Ricardo & Hugo were the best guides we could have asked for! They were knowledgeable, kind, adaptive for everyone in the group and really helped us see a glimpse into Chilean culture. They set a great pace that was manageable for all parties and checked in on everyone physically many times throughout the hike. Would HIGHLY recommend people to use this company & even request Ricardo and Hugo. The excursion was appropriately priced, there was good communication before pickup, and our guides had great energy. Such a fun day!

“The average hike length is 8 hours but I’ve had many trips that have been over 11” ; the somewhat ‘menacing’, certainly ‘sobering’ words of my Guide Valentina, as we prepared for the ‘off’. Looking up, I could feel the acute angle of my neck ! I’d been told - warned - that this officially categorised ‘challenging’ activity had within it 3 phases, the first being an ascent taking circa 90 minutes. An aerobic workout that definitely tested. And replenishing water bottles from the gushing rivers/falls was as necessary as it was a relief. Phase 2 - through the forest - was easier, albeit each ‘down’ was met with the next ‘up’. The occasional returning hiker’s telling grin - in sync with a recurring ‘keep going’ salutation - was commensurate with a presumed sense of descending joy ! The 3rd and final ‘stretch’ was arguably the hardest. You’re 10Km ‘in’ at this stage and ahead of you is a last 1Km that takes a good 50 minutes to complete. You’re clambering over uneven rocks & small boulders, all the time ascending. You sweat. You ache. You occasionally entertain the odd expletive. This is arguably as much a mental resilience issue as it is physical. Then…there ‘they’ reveal themselves ! South, Central & North, alongside Condors Nest. Magnificent ! Dramatic. Imposing. ‘Mighty’ ! Beautiful too. And all of this with the tranquility of a shimmering lake in the foreground. Any hint of negativity dissipates, all doubts are forgotten. Because no doubt - it’s worth it ! ‘That’ sight before you impacts…and with it, there’s a powerful sense of achievement. Memorable. And being one of the first to reach the destination brought privilege, in that there was a discernible peace about the environment, that later - after eating our lunch - had been replaced with lots of busyness and queuing for the best photo opportunity. Don’t be lulled into a false belief that the return to base is straightforward. Occasionally slipping & sliding on the rocks in the first phase, equates to a need for a more minded purpose of footing. Hiking protocol dictates that you give way to Ascenders. For each ‘down’ there continues to be an ‘up’…right to the end. But Vally telling me ‘You’re the real deal Hiker JP’ at the end of 7 hours, 20 minutes was a moment of magical affirmation.

Really. This tour can be done by yourself 5 times cheaper. This is basically a rip off. You can take the bus from the city and pay 7000 pesos go up and down and come back by another 7000 pesos( company name is bussur or buses Fernandez). Instead they want you to pay more than 100 000 pesos for the transport and guide. We barely see guide during the trip. It was just at the beginning when he said go up and on the way down when he said go down. He was way quicker and went away and waited in the car, sometimes during way down we did not know where to go needed to figure out ourselves. We actually did our tour alone and still paid for it. To be honest I would like to get the refund cause this was not really a trip but just very very expensive transportation.

Nevertheless it is worth visiting the park. Just read tour description copy the plan and do it yourself.

Very tough excursion, about 9 hours of walking, 25 km in difficult but very beautiful terrain, it goes from a long wooded stretch to rocks that are very difficult to walk on, but in the end the view is priceless, you are presented with the towers which are truly spectacular !!
