About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 690WayneP0 contributionsA very frustrated (ex) customerThe above says I went, however after having the tour confirmed and paid for over a month in advance and travelling to Colombia from Austalia the tour was cancelled less than 1/2 a day before if was due to start. Firstly the company stated that the amount paid through Viator was less than normal, then the tour was cancelled stating that the minimum numbers did not book. Why was thdd ed your confirmed and why did the company correspond with me until a few days prior to the trip? Then thecompany said there was a fire - 5 minutes after saying the price i paid was too low. Viator has been no help, although they did refund the cost of the trip, they refused to reinstate the discount I had used as a once off on this tour - so I have wasted that discount 😖. I have not been able to get a straight answer from Viator about the reason. for cancellation and at no point have they attempted to provide any real support. The responses from the chat line seem to be either computer generated or taken straight from a prepared script. They didn't read my chat text and responded with glib answers . If I cancelled at such short notice, the cost of thisd ed your would have be forfeited. I can't see myself using Viator in the future.Written February 23, 2024
- Mobile1345700 contributionsThe best trekking in South AmericaA great experience, hard but each step and effort has a reward with the place, nature and the Lost City. The Ecosierra team makes a great Job and they are the best guiding this trip.Written November 12, 2022
- AndresYPi0 contributionsDone with heartThe tour ... is wonderful. We loved the scenery and thanks to our guide we spent two days full of adventures. Riding down the river in a bolla was refreshing and exciting, riding horses and motorcycles on the trails is an exhilarating experience. We went to two indigenous villages where we met the mamos who are the spiritual leaders and two students from the indigenous school who taught us how chocolate is made. It tastes great! Our guide told us a lot about nature, life as a farmer and how ecotourism is organized in the Sierra. We saw that they really care for the environment and work together with the indigenous and other farmers as equals. The guide shared his vision with us, he inspired us as much as the tour itself. We highly recommend it because it is done with heart and the project is very supportive of local people creating jobs with perspective even to the next generation. A little tip: We recommend using mineral/ecological sunscreen and apply it at least half an hour before getting into the river because conventional sunscreens pollute the ecosystem.Written August 27, 2022

The tour is amazing, but definately difficult. Terrain was steep and slippery but absolutely worth it. We estimated about 60km roundtip. Ecosierra was hands down the best tour company on the mountain. The guide was a local farmer and the proceeds go directly back to the community, which is why we booked with them. We dont speak much Spanish so we had Nick as our translator and he was amazing, very attentive and passionate despite the long days (we walked slow). Jorge was our guide and we were so grateful. He knew every plant and animal that we came across and was genuinely excited to show us all the secrets of the area. The river crossings were a quite strong one day and Jorge made sure we crossed safely. He was so calm and much more in control than the guides from a lot of the other tours, who were kind of shouting and making folks rush on slippery terrain. Mary was our cook and the food was incredible. We didnt go hungry, and considering they have to carry everything up the mountain, that's saying something. If you have a small group, spring for a private tour including the waterfalls after the city, they were breathtaking and worth way more than what you pay for. 10/10.

I’ll say this up front: the hike is pretty much the same with almost any of the 6 agencies: same route, lodgings and food. ECOSIERRA works with local talent, and gives back something like 50% of their earnings to the community, they also sponsor schooling for the the children. What WILL make a difference will be the kind of service you get for your money: we got a group of three people, and we got our own cook and guide. Small groups is a HUGE deal. Our guide, David Orozco (a local kid from a local family), was great at telling us the stories, history and even teaching us about the flora and fauna. He was very knowledgeable and tremendously patient (I, perhaps foolishly, took on the hike barely a week out of Covid, which meant I was tremendously slow and somewhat clumsy). He made sure not to make an issue out of it, instead he was very diligent in making himself available to help whenever the way got sketchy, and he very skillfully helped whenever I needed it. He also managed to nudge me into keeping pace so that we usually made pretty decent time. And, like I said, this was while he was telling us about the people, their history and customs. Elkin, our cook, got up early, fed us breakfast, and then beat us to the next stop to prepare our lunch, serve us and repeat the process with dinner. He was a very fast hiker, always had a smile on his face and was willing to help whenever we needed it. He went so far as to figure out what each of us liked and spoil us a bit. Like I said, small groups are a huge difference. When you book your trip, you cannot go wrong with these guys.
One choice they gave us (for a fee) was to include a detour to the “sacred waterfalls” on our last two days, which made the hike a circuit instead of taking the same route to and from the lost city. It adds some mileage to the hike, as well as some difficulty, but it was completely worth it. Be sure to ask about it, it will take the experience to a whole new place.
One caveat: when choosing your agency, make sure to read reviews, there is one which has awful feedback.

100% recommended! The 4 day walking tour to Lost City with Ecosierra Perdida has been amazing, Before the tour I was a bit afraid as the required physical conditions are demanding, however the group atmosphere was so good it made it much easier. Our guide (Jorge) and translator (Abraham) were very good professionals, the information provided was very interesting and not overwhelming, well equipped with anything the group needed, very patient, caring and making sure the group was always in a good mood. Also, the food is very very good and the instalations are better than expected. Definitely, if someone asked me I would always say “yes, yes, yes do it”!

I recently participated in a tour organized by EcoSierra (booked through tour operator Niema) and I am very satisfied with the whole experience. The organization was excellent. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and he had a lot of interesting information to share. Together with our translator and chef, the team made sure everything went smoothly.
The food was of good quality and more than enough. Especially the fact that we got the chance to sleep on top of Losy City made the trip really worth it. It was a unique experience that I certainly wouldn't have wanted to miss.
Our group consisted of only 4 people, which was a positive aspect. This allowed us to go at our own pace and take photos undisturbed. It was also nice to walk at the front and avoid other tourists.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to Esneider Romero for his extensive knowledge and leadership, to Christian Baez for translating and to Chef Adrian for the delicious food. The sleeping places were well cared for, other travelers had lesser experiences.
The hike itself requires some effort, so a good level of fitness is recommended. Fortunately, you don't have to worry about food, as EcoSierra takes care of this. You can buy water along the way, although the prices increase the higher you go (5000 to 12000). There are also free water points at the camps with filtered water.
All in all, I definitely recommend EcoSierra to anyone looking for a good lost city tour. The journey was worth it and I am grateful for the great guidance from the team. Lots of sweating, muscle pain and continuing to drink, but the experience makes it worth it.

My experience was amazing! The agency was very professional and uncomplicated. They do a lot for the community and nature! I also couldn’t have asked for a better guide. David was very nice, attentive, careful, polite, professional and very invested in me having the best experience. Most of the indigenous people are his friends, so it was actually very nice to accompany him in this adventure and experience these connections first hand. I had the luck to be the only one with him on this tour so we had time to connect, share stories, joke around and challenge our bodies on this beautiful trek. I felt like I was doing this with a friend from back home. He told me ALL about the indigenous culture and its past, and answered ALL the questions I had, which were a lot. The food and accommodation were amazing as well! I can recommend this tour 100% and if you have the possibility do it with David, you won’t regret it!

What an amazing experience we had with Ecosierra Perdida Tours! The hiking itself is pretty exhausting but you are met at each rest stop with some amazing food, cooling showers and comfortable beds to sleep in.
The site itself is incredible and it is such a privilege to see it in all its glory! It was also amazing to meet people of some of the indeginous tribes, the Wiwa and Kogi, and learn about their culture and how they steward the land.
A special mention goes to out amazing guides, sisters Kelly and Kayla who enhanced our experience greatly. They were both incredibly knowledgeable about the site, its history and the indeginous people and answered any questions you had readily. On some sections of the path, where the hiking was particularly tough, they offered support, both figuratively and literally and ensured that we all arrived safely. We couldn't have done it without them!

An amazing experience! Oscar Gomez was our guide and he was amazing. He was super knowledgeable, friendly, and he answered all of our questions. The whole trip is unique and once in a lifetime opportunity. The hike is challenging, but it is manageable. We were one of the youngest couples (28 and 30 years old) but during the four days, we saw groups that had people much older than us (60s/70s). These four days are very well organized. You get to eat amazing food. Fernando our chef was awesome. He cooked the best meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Along the way, you will stop in different stops and you can purchase drinks and in lots of these stops, they will give you fruit for free (watermelon, pineapple, oranges)
Our trip was between December 29th and January 1st. So we got to spend New Years Eve in the middle of the mountains. Oscar made sure that we had amazing afternoon, and even thought we didn’t stay up until 12pm (we were exhausted, and only a few people stayed up until midnight) we celebrated with everyone in the tour, guides, chefs, and staff!
EcoSierra has a very good customer service. They called us before the trip a couple of times to make sure we knew what to bring, what not to bring, pick up information and other general important items.

It was an amazing experience and would recommend everyone to work with Ecosierra. Our guide Oscar Gomez is a former farmer from the area and is beloved by all the locals. Next to that, he knows the history of the area inside out. We were also very lucky with our translator Nicolas Hill. Very capable in his job and a perfect team with Oscar! It felt like a family for 4 days.
The trip itself is challenging and we recommend everyone to be relatively fit. We booked the tour through wiwawalker, this is a small agency in between that works with ecosierra. Ecosierra is known for the small groups, care taking and personal attention.

I loved our tour with Eco Sierra and would 100% recommend them to fellow travelers looking for a unique adventure. Our tour guide Gabriel was fantastic even though English was a bit challenging for him. Accommodations and food at the camps were better than I expected for the remote location.

What level of fitness is required. How far do you walk each day?
Do you need to take sleeping bag?
What are the temperatures?
Thank you
