What to Expect
Your day begins by meeting your English-speaking guide. The tea ceremony is one of the most ancient and highly respected practices in Japan. You’ll head to a traditional Kyoto home (machiya), ensuring an authentic experience. As the ceremony begins, you’ll learn all the important facets of tea preparation, including proper posture and the correct use of matcha powder. Along the way, your guide will be there to translate any questions you have for the tea master. Finally, enjoy the tea accompanied by a sweet snack to go with it, and if you’ve booked the kimono option, learn how to properly wear the traditional garment. The day ends with a return to your original departure point.

We spent two hours learning about Japanese life both past and present. We chose our kimonos and were fitted into them. This entailed dressing in undergarments which were all tied, not a button or zip in sight, beforenthe top, more colourful and decorated garments were donned. 5
