It was a very interesting tour and that is because we had an excellent docent. Cheryl made it fun and interesting and well worth our time to visit.

Wonderful tour of a historic home
We had a wonderful time touring this well maintained historic home. It is full of excellent examples of early home design as well as being the first home in the US to be lighted by electricity.

A Personal Tour of a Victorian Style Home on the River
This is a beautiful old home with interesting details in tile and wood carvings, piped for gas fixtures when built with electric fixtures just in case electricity didn't work out, as it was a new concept! We were given a tour (just my daughter and I) with interesting facts about the history of the house and the man who had it built. I often prefer to explore on my own, but this tour was a delight. This was early January so the house was still decorated for Christmas.

    Excellent tour and beautiful home
After years of living in the area, I finally toured the home. The guide was wonderful and the house is beautiful with interesting stories. I loved the interactive displays in the basement. Would highly recommend visiting!

    Beautiful and Informative
I recently had my first visit here, and was very impressed with the guide who showed us around. It is a gorgeous mansion with lots of lovely historical tidbits that the guide was more than happy to answer questions about. I will definitely be going back, and was thinking about volunteering here as well.

    Lovely House- great Guides
It was worth cost of admission to see this place. Thank you for preserving heritage. The Guides were very knowledgeable. Many hands on pieces in lower level to experience.

Hearthstone Manor is a treasure and I can’t stop thinking about it! I loved everything about it, all the details from the moldings, fireplaces, floor plan etc...it’s stunning! I can tell that it is being lovingly maintained. The actors did a wonderful job re-inacting real characters from the past. My only regret is that I didn’t have enough time during this particular tour (40mins) to fully take in the Manor. There is just so much I want to learn about the building itself - I will be back!

    Very neat museum!
We visited here and thought it was a great old house and museum. The tour guide was wonderful. She had a lot of info and made the tour very fun and interesting. They had a little area for kids in the basement area that was hands on and a neat little place to learn.

    An amazing learning experience
We learned so much about the lifestyles of the owners and what amenities were available/not available during that time in history. We certainly take electricity for granted!

    An insight into Victorian Living
Just got back from Appleton, WI which is just delightful! An unexpected treat was a tour of the Hearthstone Historic House built in 1782. This gracious Victorian homes has been lovingly restored to enlighten visitors as to life with newfound electricity! The craftsmanship in this house is superb and a testament to an era gone by. Put this on your place of places to visit and top it off with diner at Carmella’s. Just a wonderful day!.

Enjoyed walking thru the rooms most done in period of the era. During the holidays they have things decked in appropriate decorations of the season.

    Stunning Historic Home!
I happened to be in town with a friend who was taking a training course for her job. As I was driving through town wasting time from a distance I could see the house. Being a real estate agent for 15 years it immediately caught my attention! When I pulled to the side of the road to see that it was actually a museum, I was thrilled with the possibility of getting a chance to tour this fabulous home. Staff that accompanied us on our tour was very knowledgeable of the history it was not only educational but more importantly a stunning piece of bark history of architecture. Every chance I get I mentioned to my friends and family about if there ever in the area to be sure to look up this museum and take a tour of themselves.

This is such a cool place to visit! The guide is very passionate about his work and knows a lot about the home, time period it was built, and area the house is in. The amount of effort put into keeping this house’s history alive is wonderful. I will definitely be returning!

Thanks! It is hard work to maintain the structure and stay open all year long. Our volunteers are family, and they deserve accolades for their help. Everyone involved here loves their work.

I took the “Nooks and Crannies” tour at Hearthstone today and it was a great experience. The guide was informative and wonderful. So many interesting stories were shared about the house as well as many things they are still trying to learn about the house. The attention to detail for furnishing and decorating was excellent. I highly recommend this tour.

Thank you for the kind words. This was the first day of this tour type. The available dates sold out almost immediately, so we will be adding dates soon. Your guide was our Curation Director, Ann Larson. She has a quite impressive resume of education and experience, and has been involved with Hearthstone since it's inception as a museum.

We learned so much on this tour. We didn't know that the first Edison system electrified home in the world was located in Appleton! This home is beautifully restored and the docents are very knowledgeable. Be sure to stop at this museum when you are in the Appleton area!!

Our guide George was excellent. The tour took a little more than an hour and was amazing. George took the time to give a lot of history and answer all of our questions. This would not be good for small children as there are many expensive breakables. If you like history and can climb a few stairs this the tour for you.

Above and beyond my expectations. Cheryl was an amazing guide, very knowledgeable and kind. The home is stunningly decorated for Christmas. I am here traveling for work from Louisiana and have been to many historical houses in the south. This tour & home was unlike anything I’ve seen there! The attention to detail was immaculate.

Hannah- Thank you for the kind words. Many volunteers have worked hard over the years to make sure everything in the house is completely authentic and of the period the house was built. I am so happy you had a great experience. We have guests from around the world, and enjoy sharing the museum with all of them. Merry Christmas to you and everyone in the beautiful state of Louisiana!

We loved learning about the house and it’s history. Since they have it decorated differently for each season, we will definitely be back. I wished there were more photos of the families in the home who lived there, but I understand that may not exist. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, answering our questions to the best of their knowledge.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes! Halloween and Christmas are both very special seasons for us. Also, the theme and/or content for those events changes every year, so guests can come back the following year and it is a new experience. Hope to see you at Hearthstone again soon.
