About
We will observe the deep sky through high-end, computerized and manual telescopes with which we will make an azimuthal sweep of the objects visible at night in Atacama, depending on the time of year we will be able to observe: planets, open and closed clusters , galaxies and stars. Where we can distinguish its shape and colors with great ease. Added to the explanatory scientific talk of our astronomy guides who seek to deliver in a dynamic and didactic way the scientific information of the universe. We will also be able to relate the visible constellations of the southern hemisphere with the help of a laser pointer. If you want to know about the Andean archaeo-astronomy of Latin America, you should request an explanation from Patricio, who is the speaker in the explanatory talk on how our American ancestors related the cosmos to the geographical and cultural zone.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- drPotato0 contributionsUtterly poor customer service. Unreliable. AVOIDUtterly unprofessional and rude. The company (AstroTour) only contacted me after a prompt from the European travel broker. Then gave me half hour to full in forms and pay for admissions. In particularly rude manner (I'll upload photos). And eventually cancelled the trip last moment. I got the same trip from a local tour company (Eco Advantures) last minute - for way better price. AVOID!Written May 14, 2023
- SarahYoda0 contributionsVery Informative and great guideThis excursion started off slow as we had to wait for an English-speaking guide. After a 30 min. wait, we ended up having a private session with Nathan who was very knowledgeable and did a great job explaining the cosmos's. Thanks Nathan!Written November 5, 2019
- X5178ZWjosephg0 contributionsExcellent introduction into astronomyNathan and Patricio were excellent hosts ! Nathan who was out English guide has extensive knowledge on the cosmos and is extremely friendly. Above all his way to explanation allowed us who had no idea about the subject to understand fully the science he spoke of. Highly recommended!Written September 28, 2019
- nutty1190 contributionsGreat serviceOur tour was canceled due to inclement weather and we received a full refund. A lot of other tour companies do not do this or they only give a portion of your money back. I wish we were available on an alternate day in order to complete the tour. Would recommend this company to anyone visiting San Pedro de Atacama.Written January 26, 2019
- Nnlsbin0 contributionsStar gazing tourReally enjoyed my star gazing tour. Was picked up from hotel at approx 930pm and then driven out about 15 minutes from town. Blankets, tea/coffee and wine were supplied while we learnt about the galaxy. We were shown different things through the telescope and I really enjoyed it. Would recommend for anyone in San PedroWritten November 17, 2018
- Christina L0 contributionsFull moon tourWe did a tour just before full moon with Astrotour. Our guide, Nathan, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We had great views of the different types of stars, Saturn, Jupiter (we were lucky enough to see the eye!) and the moon. Nathan also helped us take photos through the telescope! Highly recommended.Written May 28, 2018

- moonlyw0 contributionsVery good agency in San Pedro de AtacamaJust finished 3 days visit in SPA with 6 friends! I had booked 3 tours (4 hours Valle de La Luna private tour & 1 day private tour & star tour) and the round trip pick-up between Calama airport & SPA by email! Carolina responded very efficiently each time! One day before arrival in Calama, Carolina had sent me WhatsApp about the pick up in Calama airport to make sure a smooth pick up! On arrival, Nathan, our guide, was very punctual & he drove us to the Valle de La Luna to start our 4 hours tour due to the flight delay! Nathan was a very nice person and professional guide! At the end of tour, we had some snack and drink. Such arrangement was very important to us coz we didn’t have lunch! On second day, Alexis, our guide, picked up us in our hostel punctually and he was very professional too and nice to us! At night of second day, we joined the stargazing as well! Nathan gave us some astronomic knowledge before seeing the star! We can have some drink and snack in between! At the end, we can spend some time to take some photos with the star & galaxy! What a perfect tour... In general, we were very satisfied with Astrotour! Meanwhile they charged us very reasonably (maybe we are group of 7)!Written March 17, 2018
- Pasquale S0 contributionsStellar, I would say!The desert of Atacama is the perfect place to really appreciate the stars in a clean sky, without thr contamination of city lights. We made the tour in spanish, a group of total 4 people. Our guide was totally into what he was doing, going deeply in the astronomy, but still keeping it simple, and answering all our questions. I'm an amateur in the field, bit the tour was really interesting also for my girlfriend. In the end we kept on discussing about the stars we saw, drinking wine, chocolate and eating snacks. There was an half moon, but this was not a great problem, though we had a great zoom on the crateres. Fascinating!Written February 26, 2018
- MidcoVincent0 contributionsNice stargazing tourWe went on the stargazing tour (9pm) with Astrotour and we enjoyed it. It was our first stargazing tour. We only had two days in Atacama and it was two days before the full moon. A lot companies did not run their stargazing tours right before full moon but Astrotour did so we booked with them. As we were the only English speakers of the night (the rest of the participants were Spanish speakers), we had our guide, Nathan, to ourselves. Nathan was friendly and knowledgeable. We found the tour quite informative and interesting. We just wish that we could go on the tour again when the moon is not so bright.Written February 26, 2018
- Nick G0 contributionsAmazing tour! What a great stargazing tour. Have never done anything like it. Our Canadian guide was hilarious and extremely knowledgeable and passionate. After our overview we had lots of time with the many telescopes. At the end we sat down for a welcome and tasty cup of hot chocolate and q&a. Top notch tour.Written December 1, 2017
- Carmen S0 contributionsAn amazing experienceThe night under the stars was really impressing at all! But the tour was not only amazing it was interesting and informative as well. Nathan showed us (in a small group of max. 10 persons) on an easy way what the milky lane is, how stars are born and dieing, how the solar system works and much more. We saw many shooting stars and even the ring of Saturn. All in all the tour was great and I can definitly recommend it! The pictures I tooked with my camera are a great memory to this wonderful night (I even learned a lot of unexpected things about my camera ;) ) Thanks a lot!Written October 10, 2017
- Matthieu M0 contributionsAn amazing time watching the stars and planetsThe tour takes place outside of town in a quiet place with almost nothing around (no light or noise contamination), which makes the sky pretty clear to observe there. We had the chance to have enough time to watch the sky through the telescope and really enjoyed our guide's comments and explanations, which were clear and accessible to people like us who do not have any knowledge in astronomy. We highly recommend this tour to anyone staying a few days or more in San Pedro.Written August 29, 2017
- Dom_Smith120 contributionsDiabolical- would not recommend doing with Astrotour. We chose to do the Stargazing tour through our accommodation, where they booked a tour through Astrotour. We were surprised by how expensive the tour was (20,000$ CLP, or £25) however chose to do it anyway after hearing great feedback from previous travellers along our trip. We also later found out (after booking the tour) that it was a full moon night, and this would have a large impact on how you could see the stars. We spoke to an Astrotour representative about this, yet they said that the full moon does not impact on your ability to see the stars... this was not the case. The tour started well, picking us up from outer Hostel on time and then driving for 15 mins or so into the desert out to an outdoor observatory, with a huge telescope in the middle. Our guide Nathan didn't speak English brilliantly, and this meant that it was confusing and hard to understand his explanation on how a star is formed and it's life cycle. I know the basics regarding a stars life, so knew roughly what he was talking about- however Nathan used analogies like a car's engine and a baby to explain about a star-this would've been easier just to explain without the analogies. This went on for about 40 minutes- with no sign of us being able to use the telescope. Eventually we were allowed to use the telescope (after Nathan fiddled with it to get it working- it was not properly prepared or set up) yet we only had around 20 seconds each of time looking at the telescope- Nathan followed this up with multiple explanations of constellations and planets- showing us them through the telescope each time. Also, the full moon made a HUGE difference in our ability to see the stars and planets, with the addition of cloud. Furthermore, Nathan fiddled with the settings on our camera to take some photos of the stars and planets through the telescope. They were good photos, however he did not inform us on what he had fiddled with- this subsequently ruined our photos for the next day until we realised what the problem was. The only consolation was hot chocolate, tea and biscuits at the end- which were out of a packet anyway. Overall we had 2 minutes of time looking through the telescope... quite awful for a tour only 2 hours long and costing double the price of our valley of the moon tour, per person. The guide was not very informative and they weren't good with customer service. DO NOT do with Astrotour!!!Written August 26, 2017
- travellerjh20170 contributionsGreat time under the stars and in San Pedro de Atacama! We spent two days (June 2-3) in San Pedro de Atacama and experienced great and interesting tours to "Valle del Arcoiris" and "Salar de Atacama", breathtaking sunset in "Valle de la Luna" and an unforgettable night under the stars while enjoying an "astro-tour" (the views of the moon, Jupiter, Saturn and the Milky Way were spectacular and the good thing about it: we have lots of photos for proof - thank your for your support with taking the pictures). Many thanks to Nathan for giving us such great moments we will never forget! Your passion for astronomy and history was also impressive for us, we enjoyed it all! We would definitely recommend "Astrotour" and would book other tours with them if some day we would get the chance to return to San Pedro!!!Written August 14, 2017

Wonderful and unique experience, especially for those who like Astronomy. Impeccable sky. Even on a full moon day like ours. Atacama is spectacular folks. The moon only rose around 11 pm... before that we were able to see the starry sky and learn a lot about astronomy with our guide Patricio who has a whole structure waiting for you, with telescopes, chairs, armchairs and hot drinks (including spirits, fermented drinks and chocolate ). The tour is excellent value for money. I recommend it a thousand times. And you get some photos through Patricio's wonderful lenses. We were able to see the stars, some planets, the Magellanic Cloud, things that we forgot and Patricio explained (there are a lot of things in the universe, my people) and finally the moon too.

We were picked up around 21:30 with a van at our hotel. Then a fifteen minute drive to the observation site just outside San Pedro. On a fenced (due to wandering light) spot were 2 large telescopes where we could take turns looking at the Magellanic clouds, Orion constellation, Andromeda Nebula, but also Venus, Saturn and Jupiter. Excellent explanation of Patricio in Spanish was directly translated into English by Hector. Especially asking a lot of questions; the man has a wealth of knowledge. For dessert another drink and a professional photo with starry sky as background and dropped off at the hotel around 23:45. Highly recommended!

Excellent experience, highly recommended for a trip to San Pedro.
Patricio is a great expert on the sky, the stars and the science that surrounds them. His explanations are clear and demonstrate his extensive knowledge on the subject, in addition to constantly opening the talk to the entire group and being very willing to answer all kinds of questions, which is always very valuable on a guided excursion.
The tour is very complete, includes hotel pick-up and drop-off, use of telescopes to see everything explained, blankets and complimentary drinks (coffee, chocolate, wine, pisco).
Additionally, unlike other tours, the photo with the starry sky in the background is included in the price and is not charged separately. You can also take photos of the moon with your cell phone through the telescope.
An unmissable tour in San Pedro de Atacama to learn and have a great time.

Rating 10 for AstroTour, guide Patrício made all the difference with his 23 years of experience as an amateur astronomer, making the experience much richer, enlightening and educational. It met all my expectations, as among the tours it was the most interesting. All the questions asked by the group, including the most difficult and specific ones, were answered in a clear and concise way, with clear and practical examples using a powerful laser to point out exactly what was being explained in the sky.
It was fantastic to see the starry sky in San Pedro de Atacama, the telescopes were the highlight of the visits. You can observe the differences in stars and their colors depending on their ages, the nebulae resulting from super nova explosions, the clusters after the stars and planets were formed. Unmissable to see Saturn and its rings, and Jupiter with its color bands and 4 of its moons.
As a bonus, it includes a break for hot drinks, wine, etc., to make the tour more pleasant and withstand the cold of the night, even in summer.

This was an amazing trip. After a bumpy ride into the desert outside San Pedro, we met our guide who was incredibly passionate about astronomy and managed to keep it simple for those with limited knowledge (ie me).
Looking through the telescopes at the planets and the Milky Way was mind blowing. Saturn was my favourite.
It was a beautiful clear sky and wasn’t too cold so the time went very quickly. Refreshments were provided afterwards and we all had a great experience.

An exceptional sky and explanations given by a passionate man. I was able to see galaxies and stars from the past thanks to a super telescope. There was even a person who came just to translate into English for the other visitor. There were only 2 of us, it was great.
We were able to take several photos at the time and then see a glass, either of coffee, of Pisco or of wine. There was a choice!
Unforgettable

Apparently it's currently the rainy season in the desert and this produces cloudy nights. I was told my tour was canceled due to cloudy conditions. They asked me could I go on the tour the next day. At first I said no but then I told them I would consider it because I was leaving early that next morning but would sacrifice sleep to go. I never heard from this company again. Ridiculous. Now, I am going to have to fight with them over a refund.

Hi. unfortunately, your review is a pity, because you booked the tour on TripAdvisor also you have our contact through the platform and you can contact to us until 30 days after the date of the tour, in that case, you have to contact to TripAdvisor or us. Is a shared responsibility between the company and customer.
We never refuse to refund the amount that you paid (we never talked about it), actually in event of cloudy weather we refund the total amount and you can check it with other customer that we refund and they wrote a review about it.
Let me remember that we were the last trying to contact to you asking this: hi, do you have more time to do the tour tonight? (you never answer).
Isn't necessary to fight against anybody because there are rules that you and us have to fulfill.

We had an explanation about the stars, but there was nothing in Portuguese all in Spanish. Also did not have time to take the photos like those from the cover, when we finished the explanations in the telescope we soon went to the van. The day we went the sky was not so dark, we did not see the sky as in the photo.

The Atacama sky is very beautiful! Patrício knows about all the constellations and astronomical curiosities! We saw several open and closed constellations, stars at different levels of evolution! The weather was pleasant and I could have stayed looking at the sky forever.
