About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- katielZ1575IX0 contributionsGreat ClassVery informative and a great class! The recipes I learned have been staples in my house since the class. I got to meet her family and sat with her daughter for a long time talking about recipes and learning new tricks. I would absolutely do another class, her food was really amazing!Written February 11, 2024
- denisegJ6523OD0 contributionsHarvest festival lunchMumbai Magic Tour organised a driver to collect us from our hotel. Our dining hosts were delightful and very knowledgeable on nutrition and traditions. As we attended on a Hindu festival day, they prepared special food. It was very relaxed, good conversation and tasteful lunch. Thank you!Written January 15, 2024
- brittaa20180 contributionsGreat!Great experience for me and my foodie friends. Market visit was informative and cooking was great. Thank you Shilpa!Written November 12, 2023
- MarloesvanBoxtel0 contributionsGood food experienceWonderful experience. Very nice to see how you can cook a proper indian meal. With the recipes i think we can make this at home!Written October 8, 2023
- Worldmap2220 contributionsNice Punjabi cooking class. The cooking class was very nice. Shilpa and her daughter prepared everything beforehand and explained how to make a few dishes. We were with a group of 15, which makes it hard to give an interactive cooking class so I would not necessarily recommend it for the size. But in general we really enjoyed it!Written May 5, 2023
- stephn2930 contributionsExplored delicious Parsi cuisine with a great hostMahrukh welcomed me into her home and taught me about a variety of Parsi dishes. She was a very gracious host, and always made sure I was enjoying myself. First we went to the local market, to see where Mahrukh buys her meat, fish and vegetables. Then we returned and made 3+ Parsi dishes. I even had a go at making a very wonky chapati! Mahrukh and her family were very attentive and it was very interesting to hear about their background and life in Mumbai. Would absolutely recommend!Written March 18, 2023
- raphaweisz0 contributionsNourishing on so many levelsWe very much enjoyed this whole experience with Reyna & Shivalika! I feel so much gratitude for the warmth we felt from everyone, and the passion each of them have for delicious and healthy lifestyles. I highly recommend! We booked the tour of a local market and stopped by a lovely all vegan & organic shop called Rose & Joe, then went back to the host's home for a home-cooking experience with vegetables we were able to pick at the market, and then enjoyed the meal with the family hosting us. We got to find out about stores and markets where we could shop to cook for ourselves while we are here, and they even gave us great recommendations of places to visit in Mumbai / Bombay and around India. Everyone was absolutely charming, shared with us their journey being vegan and recipes, too! We got to learn more about them as we also shared about us, and really felt at home.Written February 26, 2023

- JulesForth0 contributionsAbove and beyond service ..Mahrouk was a really fantastic host. She was warm, friendly and very welcoming. The dishes she cooked were absolutely delicious, using only the freshest of ingredients. We felt that all the recipes she used were ones that we would be able to recreate at home when we return to Australia. She was very generous not only with the number of dishes she made but also with her time and with her many tips. We really enjoyed visiting her home and would recommend her very highly.Written November 8, 2022
- saski600 contributionsDon't miss this wonderful experienceWe (myself, my husband and my daughter) had a wonderful experience with our host Reshma. She welcomed us warmly into her home and we cooked an absolutely delightful and authentic Indian meal together, We learnt about food, spices, cooking techniques, cooking utensils and Indian cuisine and culture. Our taste buds were in overdrive. The smell and taste of each dish was beyond delicious. A beautiful experience which I can highly recommend. Thank you Reshma and Traveling SpoonWritten August 11, 2022
- amandapowers02060 contributionsAuthentic Indian cooking experienceShilpa was so kind to welcome us into her home and give us an authentic Indian cooking experience. She walked us through every recipe, step by step and showed us how to cook the meals properly. Afterwards, she took the time to go through all the written recipes with us and took us to the market to make sure we had all the ingredients and knew what to do/practice when we’re back home. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in learning how to prepare Indian dishes in a healthy, authentic way with a great hostWritten June 26, 2022
- N2765BEamandas0 contributionsDelicious authentic vegan Indian experienceWe had a fantastic time with Shilpa on our vegan cooking class. Shilpa was extremely genuine, enthusiastic and patient as she showed us around her kitchen and local neighbourhood market. She showed us the best ingredients and helped us identify spices and produce. For our meal, we made a delicious dahl, aloo sabji, tofu/paneer sabji and rotis as well as paratha. Shilpa ensured we understood every step of the process before moving on, and also gave us print outs of the recipes to annotate as we went. We learnt a lot about cooking in general as well as short cuts for busy households, like ours. We very much enjoyed our time with Shilpa and will definitely enroll in another cooking class with her when we are next in MumbaiWritten January 3, 2022
- constantinou20000 contributionsPure vegan delightWe arrived at Reyna's lovely home in a very plush suburb of Mumbai and were immediately offered a refreshing healthy drink. Conversation with Reyna and her friends was captivating and so we took a while getting to the dinner table. Once there though, the food was delicious. A range of traditional vegan local dishes and desert were served alongside more interesting conversation.Written March 18, 2020
- robertbT9520SS0 contributionsThe Mumbai highlight for people who love great and honest foodAn amazing time with Shilpa. We learned so much and ate fantastic, quick, healthy and super tasty food. I am now the paratha king of our household. Shilpa could not have been anymore enthusiastic or helpful in regards to our time in India. We were visiting a few different places and the offer was given freely to contact her is we had any issues. We have raved to anyone who would listen to let them try this experience for themselves.Written February 22, 2020

Our belly’s and minds were fully satisfied after spending time cooking with Pallavi in her lovely home.
We really enjoyed the market tour, it felt like a local experience and away from other tourists.
The cooking was easy to follow, and we came away with new knowledge of Gujarati cooking, flavours and techniques.
Pallavi knows then the city really well, we spoke about the market, fruits and vegetables, spices... and Indian culture / family life too!
We felt very welcome and were given printed information to take away so that we would not forget the recipes.
Four hours well spent!

First of all thanks to the Traveling Spoon team. It was the first time I used your service and so I had a lot of questions. You always answered fast und precise and that‘s really seldom with online services.
A lot of thanks to Pallavi. She is a wonderful and warm host.
We came with a cruise ship. So she picked as up at the Green Gate (where everybody had to leave the Harbour) and organized the transport first to the market then to her home and back to the ship as good as possible concerning the (sometimes bad) traffic at Mumbai. (For other cruisers: we never had the fear to not be back on the ship in time! The timing was well done.)
On the market Pallavi showed and explained us a lot of goods and answered our question. And she helped us to buy some spices (vanilla, saffron, ...) that are much more expensive in our country than here.
Then we arrived at her luxury flat as described in the announcement. (It‘s of course we’ll air conditioned.) She welcomed us with a cooling drink, some appetizers and the menu card of dishes we will cook and then eat.
Later in the kitchen first she showed how to prepare the vegetables, spices and herbs and who to prepare the dishes. After that we were invited to do by ourselves. You will be astonished how easy and fast the preparations are if you follow Pallavi‘s tips. (For other guests: don‘t be afraid, Pallavi’s cooking isn‘t really hot. It‘s spicy, yes, but not hot, and while preparing the dishes you can decide how much chili will be used.)
Back to the eating room to the well prepared table two Pallavi’s attendants served us and herself the lunch. Pallavi explained how to eat the different things in the Indian style, why to combine some of them. And I can tell you, if you follow her advice, her served food is great. (For others: if you never tried south Asian food or have only the experience of some restaurants in Europe, the taste not comparable, it’s different, it‘s originally and much better!)
Beside eating and later we had warm and nice talks about us, our families, about living in Mumbai...
Last but not least Pallavi sent us back to the ship with her driver well in time.
We had a great day in Mumbai full of new and best experiences and tastes (and ideas to cook by myself at home).
Again Pallavi, thank you a lot!
