Overview

No trip to China would be complete without feasting on dumplings—but if you don’t speak Chinese, it’s hard to know where to find the best, or even what they’re called. Discover some of China’s favorite dumplings, including Shanghai’s signature xiaolongbao, from your foodie guide—and learn to cook Cantonese shrimp dumplings from a chef. Tour is limited to 10 people for a more intimate feel.

What to Expect
Meet your guide and small group in central Shanghai and stroll the former French Concession, a charming colonial-era area. Taste up a storm as you discover the city’s myriad dumpling styles. Savor up to eight samples, including jiaozi (favored in northern China), hun tun (wontons), guotie (pan-fried dumplings), and, of course, Shanghai’s favorite xiaolongbao (soup-filled dumplings).

After learning about the meaning of food in Shanghai, it’s time for a cooking class. A professional chef will show you how to make har gow, a Cantonese dim sum favorite with delicate wrappers stuffed with juicy shrimp. Then make your own and eat your fill before you say farewell. Your guide can direct you to the subway or help you find a taxi.

Dumpling Heaven

Cherry was a wonderful tour guide. We sampled many different types of dumplings and we had the chance to make our own dumplings in a clean very professional kitchen. The overall experience was fun, informative, and filling! I highly recommend this tour.

We made some kindof dumpling, I don't remember what the name of it was. There was shrimp in it and we made the "dough" with cornstarch and a couple others things. I'm sorry, I can't be more specific! It was a lot of fun for... More
