Overview
Outside of scenic West Lake, Hangzhou’s main attractions can be hard to access by public transportation—and communicating with taxi drivers is tough. On this tour from Shanghai, travel with a private guide who will handle any language issues and navigation to sights including Lingyin Temple and Hefang Street. Hotel pickup and drop-off make for a seamless experience, and you upgrade to include private transportation, lunch and entrance fees.
What to Expect
Greet your guide at your Shanghai hotel and ride the bullet train to Hangzhou. Begin with a visit to Lingyin Temple (upgrade to include entrance fees) with its rich Buddhist carvings, many of which date back more than 1,000 years.

Next, continue to a tea farm to taste some of the Longjing (Dragon Well) green tea for which Hangzhou is famous. After a lunch on Hangzhou specialties (included if you upgrade), learn about tea culture as you hike through the rice fields.

No visit to Hangzhou would be complete without exploring UNESCO-listed West Lake. Soak up the views as you wander among lotus, pagodas, and bridges.

Finally, shop for souvenirs on Hefang Street before your guide escorts you back to your Shanghai hotel.

Bullet train

Very fast but comfortable reaching speeds up to 320 km per hour and able to do better but the tracks were not stable enough for that. The station is very modern but again like everywhere in China crawling with people.

It takes between 60 and 90 minutes from Shanghai on the bullet train. The day trip takes about 10 hours. If you have a private guide, I believe that you could extend the trip, although I felt like saw everything I wanted to... More
