I had a great tour experience with Jason. First of all, he’s not only a very good and knowledgeable guide, but he has a very good customer service. He texted me once the tour was booked and then a day before sent a quick note to say that I’ll be the only one on a tour and he’s not cancelling it. That was really nice of him and it all worked out even better than I thought. The whole 5hrs were just for me. Because of the Easter, most places were closed, so we just walked around, exploring the city, parks, architecture and lots of history, sometimes felt a little too much info in a short time, although, he made it entertaining with interesting stories. Best part for me was going to a fruit shop (the only one that was opened) learning and tasting different types of fruits. I didn’t even had to pay for anything as the company had some budget for it.
I will definitely book this tour again or try a different tour with Jason when I’m in San Jose and when everything is opened. 😊

As a non-coffee drinker, I was shy on taking this tour, but the tour is SO much more than I imagined. Eric is a terrific guide. Our first taste was a coffee, but made so uniquely, that I really enjoyed it. I would drink this coffee daily if we could get it in Colorado. We were offered a unique, one-of-a kind tomato juice shooter, then started our tour of the market. Extremely interesting and educational. We tried so many fruits that we hadn't even known existed. We had cheese empanadas as well. Eric toured us though the San Jose area, explaining history and architecture, as well as touring the theatre. Our tour ended after a brief walk over to a family owned restaurant where we got some traditional snacks and drinks. The Costa Ricans are very sensitive to the virus and have kept everything clean and safe. We never felt at risk. Again, Eric is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Great tour!

We met in the centre of San Jose, and I would highly advise against driving. Traffic is very busy in the mornings and San Jose can be very confusing if you're unfamiliar with it, even our hotel shuttle driver struggled to find the meeting point. Once we were there though the tour was well worth it. Our guide Ernesto was friendly and charming, our group size of 5 was perfect to ensure a personal experience and not feel rushed or herded about. We began st the Central Mercado, the oldest and most authentic food market in San Jose. We tried a number of delicious fruits, most of which were complettely new to us and strolling through the market we encountered many amazing smells, sights and sounds. We also tried a refreshing drink from a fresh coconut, a hot empanada, and the highlight for me a stop at the famous Helados de Sorbetera. They only make one flavour of ice cream, but oh my god is it good, possibly the best I've ever tasted. It has a totally unique flavour, but I won't spoil the surprise as you have to taste it. We then took a gentle stroll around a couple of small parks and visited some important landmarks and old ornate buildings that embodied the various styles of Costa Rican architecture. Ernesto was engaging and highly informative about the food, history and culture of Costa Rica and how it shaped this unique country. Our tour ended at the Tours own building where we were treated to incredible samples of freshly ground Costa Rican coffee, chocolate tea, and a delicious hot chocale made fresh from cocoa beans ground by hand in the traditional style by Ernesto himself. Overall a fanscinating and delicious way to spend a morning in San Jose and a great introduction to the people and culture of Costa Rica.

There was no food. Paid for the private experience, and, apparently, the tour guide thought private meant only them--never stopped talking, and made us wait almost an hour and an half for the cup of coffee that's supposed to happen at the beginning. Took us to the market and described the food, telling us endless anecdotes. But, and I repeat, there was no food. Not that there was much sightseeing either, as I recall.

I don’t usually write reviews but Gabriel is an exceptional guide.

My wife and I love to travel. During our travels we find guided tours to learn more about the history of the area and the locals. For the most part, we have enjoyed almost al of them. It’s the guide who can really make the experience memorable.

We recently took a tour in Costa Rica through Intrepid Tours and our guide was Gabriel. He was sensational! He is knowledgeable about his country and we could see how passionate he is about it.

He introduced us to fruit that is only grown in Costa Rica and gave us the opportunity to taste them as well. We were amazed with all of it.

¡Gracias a Gabriel e Intrepid Tours!

We hope others have the opportunity to tour with Gabriel.

We have taken many walking tours throughout the US and abroad and this 3 hour tour far exceeded our expectations. Gladys, our tour guide, took us through two indoor markets in downtown San Jose sampling various fruits, spices, food and even ice cream. She then walked us around the downtown showing us the architectural landmarks of the city with a brief Costa Rica history lesson. And if that wasn't enough we then ground our own chocolate and had authentic hot chocolate and tamales.
We took the tour on our last day in Costa Rica and it was one of the highlights of our entire trip.
The staff at Urban Adventures could not have been nicer. After the tour they gave us great recommendations on what to see and do for the remainder of our day.

This is an awesome day tour to do if you want to get to know the downtown area and history of San Jose and Costa Rica. My wife and I really enjoyed walking around the central market and trying all the fruits and local popular foods. The tour guide Ernesto was great. You finish the tour at a cafe where you learn about how they extract the cacao and eventually make chocolates. We got to sip on some of the best hot chocolate and got to try some costa rican style tamales. Tour ended close to the National History Museum so it was perfect to walk over to the next thing.

I love this tour. It’s the easiest way to get to know San Jose .amidst all the negative reviews of this amazing city, what’s important is really how people shaped this gem with its architecture and food. Eric was a great guide as he took us to where local people go. The market was amazing . Learned some things I wouldn’t have learned otherwise . Met a few friends along the way too.

We met Eric at the meeting point which was literally at the front of the market entrance. Good thing he spotted us cause it is a busy pedestrian area. Eric took us around the streets of San Jose and was very knowledgeable about the history and the day to day of his Country and the people. We toured the market, a beautiful church, government sites and also got a chance to see how Chocolate was made. This was very educational and gave us a chance to mingle with the locals and sample tropical fruit and empanadas and some amazing coffee. He was very patient and stopped if we felt like we needed pictures. Fare warning it is a walking tour so wear comfortable shoes and bring small change to purchase fruit and souvenirs. I would recommend this tour to anyone in the city for a day, it's well worth it!!! Thank you Eric for being such a great host and teaching us about your beautiful country, Costa Rica.
