Good Overview Tour of San Jose
We enjoyed the view and city tour from the top of the double decker bus. Rolpho, the guitar player, was cute and entertaining, and we especially enjoyed our time in the central market, cathedral, theater, and national park. The tour guide’s historical description of the National monument was excellent. I was misled by the description of the tour in advance that we were going to the museum. We just drove by. Also, as another review mentioned, we would have loved more time in the market to browse and shop. And my daughter was especially eager to see the actual theater as opposed to just the lobby, but you needed a special guid to get in to see more of the National Theater. The dinner was a good typical Costa Rican fare though my family especially enjoyed the breaded fish (Sea Bass.) All in all, we appreciated seeing an overview of San Jose though it felt a little rushed and formulaic.

The musician on the bus was really good, the guide was kind and informative. It was mostly a drive by pointing out sites that I really wanted to see. I would have liked more time and freedom in the central market to make more purchases and get some coffee. I also would have enjoyed a stop at the lovely church.

    Very nice experience
Guild gave great presentations on the history of the places we visited. The dinner was excellent. Just the right amount of time to see what San Jose CR has to offer.

Get to Know a bit of San Jose
First, we were picked up by a small bus and taken to a location where other small buses dropped off people -- and we all got onto a double-decker bus together. The tour was EXCELLENT. Our guide was Sergio and was very knowledgeable. We made several stops throughout the city, and most felt rushed. We had only 20 minutes at the museum of art, and if you had to use the restroom, it came out of that time. So don't count on being able to really savor the art, only sample it. It was incredible to see the Gold Room at the museum and look at the historical 3-D mural carved out of plaster in the walls. Incredible!! We also went to the Central Market 1880 and were walked through it as a group -- otherwise you WILL get lost in it, it is that huge!! However, we did get taken to a single souvenir shop as a group and got to purchase coffee, chocolate, t-shirts, items made of wood, and whatever other things you like for souvenirs. They're pricey for us tourists, but I felt good about sharing with the people. They were very polite and helpful, and even offered us some chocolate-covered coffee beans to try. YUM!! Finally, dinner was at a modest restaurant, where we had a choice of chicken, fish, beef, or vegetarian. The fish was breaded, and delicious. I chose the chicken, which was grilled. The meal itself was simple but filling. We had a great time getting to see San Jose and I would recommend this tour. One thing I found on both tours I took in San Jose (with 2 different companies) is that they rarely think through bathroom needs for people. If a stop is 20 minutes and you need the restroom, you lose time out of the stop. With all the stops being very quick, bathrooms were an issue.

Evening tour of San Jose - enjoyable!!
This was a nice way to start off our vacation to Costa Rica. After the hotel pickup, we got to see a lot of sights in San Jose as Sergio did an excellent job talking about the most significant historical aspects of Costa Rica and even Central America. I especially liked the discussion on the National Monument. Among the stops, I also enjoyed the Central Market and seeing the shops, sodas (mini-restaurants), foods, items and smells associated with this market. Overall, I liked the ambiance of the double decker bus (we sat on top) watching the lights go by while a musical performer was playing on his guitar.

    Traffic with a view.
The bus was comfortable, guide provided good knowledge and the lunch was tasty. My 3 star review the cost vs value and the time spent at stops. I would recommend taking this tour on the 1st day of the trip. If you enjoy the places visited you can return.

    Great Value!!!
Sergio our guide was excellent…Very knowledgeable and passionate. If you don’t have a lot of time to spend in San Jose this is your tour. It’s long enough and will cover most of SJ’s points of interest. Even thou the museum is small it was very charming and full of Costa Rica history. The “Mercado Central” is fascinating if you like old, historic type of market place…my wife and both loved it! It felt if you were back on the day!!!…with lots of traditional foods, clothing, and souvenirs. Ended up with a nice very traditional meal. The tour gave us a sense of the local culture and atmosphere. Sergio made that happened!!! Great Job!!!!

The best way to experience San Jose, CR
Jordan (JJ) and the driver and the gentleman that played his guitar and sang were fantastic. (Mina and Rodolfo I think). Sorry. I should have taken better notes. Jordan is so passionate about his country's history and he knows it so well. There was not a single moment that I was bored or didn't learn something valuable. I also had an absolutely great time enjoying all that San Jose has to offer, from dinner, shopping, sightseeing and more. This tour is definitely worth more than the cost. We did the VIP City Afternoon Tour with Dinner / Tour. There were 3 in my group and we were joined by 2 from Canada and 2 from Mexico. We all had a grand time. Thanks Jordan, Mina and Rodolfo. Man I hope have your names correct. :)

    awful experience
Terrible tour. We did nothing that the brochure said we would do. No oxcarts, no marimba live show, no sugar cane or making tortilla ..nothing but on and off the bus three times for a little history and then dinner

San Jose CR on foot, do it!
Jordan shows you interesting parts of San Jose you probably would never find on your own, and he's wonderfully charming and informative on a million different topics. San Jose is big and confusing but VIP has organized a tour that makes sure you see what you need to see. Ivan the driver appeared by magic at just the right time to bring us to the next stop on the tour. We really enjoyed it. They were also super convenient, picked us up at our hotel near the airport and dropped us off at the hotel at the end. We made the reservation the reservation the same day as the tour.

Efficient use of time - some watch outs
Handicraft market was not cheaper than other places - for e. g. We paid for chocolate after negotiating and thought we did great then to find out that airport has those cheaper!! Actual tour was nice - efficient / effective use of time Pickup to the starting point was slow - a 15 minute drive took 45 minutes where the driver picked up 3 other families - we would have been better of showing up at starting point on our own ( probably would cost us 15 - 20 dollars in taxi )

We really enjoyed our tour! We are typically not the double-decker bus tour types - we like to wander around and guide book our way through a city. However, with the current pandemic and our weak Spanish skills, we decided to spend the money and take a tour. We figured a tour company would know best what's open, what's not, and proper protocols for us to follow. We were promptly picked up at our hotel and the bus was very clean. Windows were open. We washed our hands at every stop. Mask required and no one had an issue with it - everyone had their mask on in the bus and at the stops, we visited. Sergio our guide was really great and very knowledgeable. He told great stories at each of the different points of interest and with a passion of a person who loves sharing the history and culture of Costa Rica. In the marketplace, his talk was very engaging and fun. He answered our many questions along the way as well. We were glad we made the decision to take this tour.

This was a great introduction to San Jose, Costa Rica… the tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. This tour takes you around the city to several different must see points of interest. I didn’t know what to expect and I was thoroughly satisfied… and also made some friends here.

My wife, son and I booked 8 nights in Costa Rica with the first 2 in San Jose. My wife was delayed a day due to passport issues, so my son and went ahead on our own. We booked the VIP San Jose Walking and Bus City Tour. It is a good tour. Getting to see the downtown and learning some history was great. Our tour guide, Jessie was very good. She did the tour in both Spanish and English flawlessly. She had a very good knowledge of the history of the city. Now, how the driver navigated the double decker bus on those small crowded streets is beyond me, but he did a great job. It seemed we went around in circles a bit, but that is because of all the one way streets. Overall, though, it was a great tour and you see most of what you need to see in San Jose in 5 hours. Lunch at a local restaurant was included.

The tour included the old SJ airport/museum, the National Monument of Costa Rica, the city market and the gold museum. These were all interesting, but much of the time of the tour was spent on the bus picking people up from hotels, getting from place to place, and dropping people off at the end. With hindsight, taking an Uber or taxi to each place would have been much better, especially if you read about each place on line before going there.

I highly recommend this tour. Very doable if in San José for a day. Sergio was a great knowledgeable guide and the staff singer on the bus did a great job of sharing Costa Rican music. The lunch provided was wonderful , I recommend the fish.

This did not meet our expectations when compared to city bus tours in many cities in various countries. While the guide did his best, the itinerary just wasn't very interesting. Suggest you make your own itinerary and Uber to places you want to see.

They were relatively on time re pickup so that was a plus, the list of places we would visit was off by one location. Museo de Oro pre-Columbian was added and I had paid to go to this two days before. If this place was listed, we wouldn't have gone prior. Overall the tour was decent, I could have done without the entertainment re singing guy, as the announcements of what was coming up was drowned out by his singing and guitar playing. Suggestion re him, be mindful of the key places and stop entertainment during that. Also, don't stay just by one section of ppl, move......

An excellent way to get to see and experience so much of downtown San Jose, from a Birds Eye view up in the double decker bus. We would have liked to have more time to walk around in the market and walk the parks and streets. But overall, very satisfied with the two museums we visited, the tour guides knowledge and the savoury lunch that was included.

Incredible day of education and adventure. Our guide, Jesse, was fantastic, and her knowledge of her wonderful city's history was impressive. We visited parks, historic buildings, museums, a local market, etc. and even were gifted with some traditional and Central American music by the one and only Rolando.
Highly Recommend this tour!
