We had a great private tour with Pablo today. When we initially got to San Jose and saw the traffic, we were apprehensive about riding bikes through the streets. But we were pleasantly surprised to see how many bike lanes and paths the city has. Our guide Pablo was a young friendly guy who spoke perfect English. We learned some historical and architectural facts, rode through parks and flower-tree lined streets, and got a tour of the beautiful University campus. My husband and I are active thirty-somethings who don’t bike very often, and the difficulty level was perfect for us. This tour is a great way to see a lot more of the city than you would by foot!

A walking tour of some of the traditional dive bars in San Jose. Carla was an awesome guide, so knowledgable, and engaging, it felt like we were just going for a couple of drinks with a friend we'd known for ages.
Really interesting bars, that we almost certainly wouldn't have gone into without the tour. Well worth booking this in on your first night in San Jose as well to really get a feel for the city. I'd definitely do the bike tour if we were stying longer.

I booked a last minute trip to Costa Rica and wanted to find a city tour of San Jose to learn more about the culture. I found ChepeCletas through Lonely Planet, and contacted them after I arrived. They were quick to reply, and even though their public tour didn't work out with my schedule, they were able to offer me a private tour to accommodate my travels. Carla the tour guide took me on a three-hour walking tour of San Jose. She was funny, engaging, knowledgeable, and professional. She not only showed me the sights, she also introduced me to the culture and the people. I couldn't think of a better way to end my first visit to Costa Rica!

We had an afternoon for a tour of San Jose prior to joining a group tour, so we hired ChepeCletas for a walking tour downtown (including a visit to the Central Market and food-tasting). Our guide, Carla, was a delightful young woman who shared many interesting tidbits about the history of San Jose, the architecture of the buildings, the workings of the government, and the culture as a whole. We very much enjoyed the tour and recommend ChepeCletas to others wishing to get to know a bit about San Jose and Costa Rica.

After a delayed start due to an accident our bike tour turned into a walking tour which was amazing. We wandered through areas we would never have found, learning much of the early history of San Jose and visiting some of the more interesting galleries. Loved that our guide Jose realized our interests and took us to places off the usual tour itineraries. Highly recommended

We had Carla in San Jose, and I don't know what we would have done without her. Perfect way to start our time in that city, very knowledgeable, so much fun to spend time with. Carla, if you are reading this, you have an instant tour guide in us anytime you come to NY to visit!

San Jose doesn't seem to be a very interesting city, until you meet the costarrican chepecletas guides. They will take you to the capital streets and show you in a very entretaining way, all the interesting stories that "Chepe" (San José) has to offer. They have walking and bike tours. Don't miss them!

I have been fortunate enough to participate in many of the ChepeCletas events, including their city tours and I have to say there isn't a better way to discover a city but through the eyes of local residents who love their town and their traditions above everything else.
The ChepeCletas guys make their tours fun by interacting with the participants and adding interesting details to each of their stops. They are friendly, polite and Incredibly knowledgeable about the history of San Jose and beyond.
If you have a chance to only do one thing is San Jose, or Chepe as the locals call it, you must book a tour with ChepeCletas! You'll leave San Jose with a smile on your face.
