    Universidad de Costa Rica
    Stop: 3 hours
We will visit the Campus of the University of Costa Rica, which holds some of the largest patches of forest in the San José Metro Area. On our first stop, we will look for resident and migratory birds, incredible insects and amazing plants and flowers. We'll be talking about art, history, indigenous culture, and most of all, nature. Then, we'll visit the main campus where we will be looking for sloths that live freely and hopefully even see the two different species that inhabit our country. DISCLAIMER: This is not a Recue Center or Sloth Sactuary Tour. You will not be able to touch them, if found, the sloths will be seen in their natural habitat, which means most of the time they will be sleeping on the trees. Still, our experience is your best option at San Jose if you're a true nature lover. This is a 2,5h walking tour, some parts will be exposed to intense sunlight. Not a heavy walk, but please consider your physical condition

    Carara National Park plus Crocodiles
Rigo was a wonderful guide for our tour. The moment our tour began, we were welcomed with enthusiasm and knowledge. Carara National Park was our first stop where we viewed birds, reptiles, insects, floral and fauna. The strength of our tour was witnessed by the size our tour which was just 2 people compared to the other tours of dozens in the group. We could ask individual questions and experience the tour in a more personal way. Our next stop was a boat ride on the Tarcoles River. Many varieties of birds were viewed on the river and Pacific Ocean. A few crocodiles were present and we always felt safe. The tour ended on the Pacific Ocean with a tasty traditional lunch. We highly recommend this tour.

    Personalized and knowledgeable experience.
I really enjoyed this experience. It was a mix of adventure and knowledge. The guide was very nice and I really enjoyed the company of the few participants to bring us closer to a personalized experience. We saw sloths but I'm not good taking pictures.

Great day out with knowledgeable guide
Great day out with thoughtful knowledgeable guide. Volcano fascinating, cloudy at first then it cleared!! Late lunch with one of the most stunning views I’ve ever seen and a great variety of birds. Lovely way to spend one of last days of our visit to Costa Rica. Shame we booked too late to be able to visit the animal rehab centre

The best tour in San Jose
No need to go to a long and expensive tour like Manuel Antonio. We saw at least 3 sloths on the University campus and lots of colourful birds. our guide Sarah was lovely and knowledgeable.

A full day out with a very knowledgeable guide. Excellent experience!
We stopped at a coffee plantation then the Poas volcano then La Paz waterfall then lunch at a restaurant with fantastic (waterfall) views & bird feeders with humming birds & an assortment of tanagers. All with the company of an excellent tour guide - Rigo.

    Fantastic experience
Well structured tour hosted by Rigo, who knew a lot about the flaura and fauna in the park. He was very easy to talk to and approachable which made the experience easier. Would highly recommend!

Split Decision with refund for over- charge
Oropopo Experience gets big applause for effecting my refund that Viator rejected. The price Viator charged was $125! over the listed price with a vague explaination devoid of any details. I was disappointed with the guide. He seemed to rely too much on the other guides with poor results. I felt that I could do just as well on my own by paying the entrance fees. Boat tour, "river adventure", was filled with birding action and crocs. Go early morning with a higher tide.

    Eduardo is the man
Highly recommend asking for Eduardo. What a gentleman. Always waited for both people in our party to explain, making sure everyone is happy and on the same page. He took us to Monteverde, Arenal and La Fortuna, and went to Baldi hot springs with us. He never left us, drove safely, and also toured us at Rescate Wildlife center where he volunteers. He is a biologist primarily, very clear, fun, knowledgeable. Mom lost her Apple Watch at El Salvador airport. Eduardo communicated with security there for days, on phone and WhatsApp, until they got a hold of her watch. Can you imagine?! Eduardo is the most caring, charming man and I couldn’t imagine spending some days with anyone different. Did I mention he is a professional photographer that has his own post card business? Impressive!

Superb start to our Costa Rica trip
Based at The University of Costa Rica and run by students/staff. We were a small group, taken around the campus to observe the wildlife and the remaining natural forest. Raquel our guide was excellent, knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful - sorted out an Uber for us to get back to our hotel! $30 for 31/2 hours plus, well worth it. To see a sloth in San Jose city!

A must conservation tour in the city
I definitely recommend this tour, given by biology students from the UCR. I didn’t realize we would be walking around the “rewilded” campus. It was relaxing and informative and a great group of travelers from 4 different countries. The guide had a telescope and made sure we left with sloth pictures and the motivation to make this planet just a little wilder. Thanks!

Amazing day trip from San Jose
We had an amazing time on the “Between Cartago Volcanoes” tour! Our tour guide Rigo was so knowledgeable— he took the time to point out many unique plants and ecological features, particularly birds and insects after we shared that our group was interested in those areas. This day trip was a great way to see the country side and the volcanos, and the archeological site was a bonus for our group and very interesting. I also loved the small tour size; there were three of us in my group and we had our own private tour! We really enjoyed our time and would book with this group again!

Sloths & Wilderness tour San Pedro
It was great wandering around the campus, which is huge and feels like it's miles away from the city, just listening to the birds, surrounded by butterflies You can't predict the nature or weather but we were still able to see a MotMot, sparrows, flycatchers, many butterflies and a three toed sloth I also learned a lot about leaf cutter ants and say the biggest nest I have ever seen and apparently they can be bigger!

    First Costa Rican Fungi Tours!
Oropopo has started Fungi tourism in Costa Rica for those of us around the globe who love Fonga. 🍄 They organise monthly group trips to all of the natural forest areas around the country. They also can organise half day/ night time and full day private tours in different locations as well. We booked a full day tour and were taken for a hike to Laguna Don Manuel and also to an organic Shitake farm for an amazing lunch and learning tour. Our mycologist guides Allison and Andres were passionate people and really knew their stuff. We learned so much and found so many different species in September! Thanks so much guys and we were so happy to join in at the start of the new Fonga-tourism you are a part of!

This tour is a true gem and I can recommend it to anyone who is looking for something different to do in San José. I never would have thought that you could go out and explore a part of Costa Rica’s nature in the middle of a city. Thank you Ismael for showing us how to find beauty in unexpected places.

This was a fun activity. You never think that in the middle of the city you will see wildlife so readily. Also it makes you discover parts of the city you don't necessarily explore. The guide was excellent (apparently they were short-staffed that day because one of the guides was ill - but you would not know it.) Rigo alternated from Spanish to English to accommodate all the visitors and it never felt rushed. He shared some of the photos and videos he took with the scope making for great memories

The guide Marvin was amazing. Passionate about Costa Rican biodiversity and extremely knowledgeable. He made all the difference, walking through the forest and pointing out so many interesting things and explaining it all so well. Seeing the forest from above is a different perspective that's worth taking advantage of.

Sarah was an amazing guide! She was able to talk about the wildlife and history of the area with ease. Sarah was able to keep our group private in a public setting and entertained. Who knew there was such a wonderful habitat downtown San Jose!

This was such a delightful experience! I never knew there was so much wild nature to be found right in the middle of this bustling city. We saw about 8 different birds — including a hawk going in for the kill. It was really eye-opening tour, and I would recommend it to anybody.

This was a fascinating and unique walking tour. Our guide, Rigo, was incredibly knowledgeable about all the flora and fauna and history in the area, and it was interesting to have the tour in an urban area. He was happy to answer all our questions and posed many interesting questions to keep us thinking. I would recommend this tour, especially if you don't have an opportunity to take another wildlife tour while in Costa Rica.

Amazing wildlife in the city. The tour is led by a group of environmentalists/ biologists that are native to the city. It takes you around the university biodiversity corridor, showing you the plants, trees, birds and animals that around.

Sara was our guide for our tour of 3 people. We were met with enthusiasm and love for nature. The fact that we were a small group made the experience more intimate and enjoyable. We viewed trees, varieties of birds including woodpeckers, leaf cutting ants, butterflies and several sloths. It was a thrill to see them! I would highly recommend this tour. It was easy to walk and view all of these wonderful features Costa Rico has to offer!

I had the most fun with Charly. We toured the university grounds. As a biology graduate I was thrilled and enamored by all of the amazing plants, animals, and insects. We were able to take our time and learn all about the beautiful ecological impact every creature has. Our guide was amazing and brilliant. Definitely take the time to enjoy this opportunity. One tiny reminder there is an entire "rainy season" in this part of the world so IF you don't love the rain like me maybe bring an umbrella.
