A perfect way to spend an afternoon in SJ! It’s very much worth the price, we got so full on all the delicious fruit, food and dessert. Our guide Dino was great and was the perfect person to introduce or advance your understanding of tico food culture and the city’s history.

This tour was so well rounded and we really wished we would have taken the tour at the start and not the end of our vacation, since we discovered many places we wanted to visit again.

Anyone who says San Jose is not worth staying in are wrong!

I always recommend some type of city tour if it's your first time traveling somewhere new - to get to know the lay of the land, the culture, the cuisine, and what to watch out for and maybe add on to the trip. This tour was a great crash course on San Jose. The guide was outgoing, completely bilingual, friendly and honest and told us how to stay safe while traveling through Costa Rica. He talked about the customs and traditions that are celebrated here. We also had a lot of opportunities to eat - mostly small things like empanadas, small cups of ice cream, etc. but it filled us up! And it was all local food by local vendors, so it was good to support them. We got to see two big markets and some local sites like the town squares and the National Theater. Then it all concluded in their main building with home-made snacks that we prepared and locally grown coffee brewed in the traditional style. A great value!

I had one day left in Costa Rica and flying out of SJO, it was easiest to spend it nearby. So looking at what was available, I found this.

This was really great value - we had a walking tour and learned about the city, learned about local spots, tried tasty familiar and new fruits, and got to try food and learn how to cook a tasty treat, as well as a coffee tasting and educational session on it!

Our guide Daniel was great and as well as Eric who fed us and showed us how to make something new!
This was my last day and literally the last activity I did before leaving, and it was a really nice way to end my (33 day) trip!

We were met by an Angel!
That was the name of our guide who began our tour with a history of Costa Rica, San José and its foundations in coffee and agriculture.
We then walked to the Central Market to try some local food, followed by fruit sampling at various stalls in the fresh food market.
We then had coffee at a local cafe before heading into the cultural side of the region with visits to the cathedral and theatre.
We finished walking up to the Italian and French barrios before sampling more food and drink at a local restaurant.
The guide was excellent, the company interesting and overall we'd recommend anyone to use this company and tour to get a sample of Costa Rica City culture.

Our guide Daniel was great and gave us a fantastic afternoon tour, showing us the key buildings & statues within central San Jose and explaining the history behind them.
This was in between visiting 2 busy markets and sampling the local produce.
The tour finished with making our own plantain empanadas, followed by coffee tasting.
After all the delicious food, we certainly did not need dinner later!
Daniel kindly stayed with us in the shop whilst we waited for our Uber to arrive and in case we needed WiFi etc.
A thoroughly enjoyable tour that exceeded our expectations!!

We booked this tour to learn more about San Jose and the unique foods that make this country a travel destination. We were thoroughly impressed by our guide who guided us in English through downtown San Jose. We learned so much about everything from coffee and fruit to ceviche and ice cream. We could not have done this type of tour on our own and learned so much in such a short period of time. The amount of food we ate easily covered the cost of the tour. The hands on experience at the end where we learned to make Empanadas was wonderful. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to really learn about San Jose. The group size was small and the guide and company were first class!!

Everything about this tour was perfect. Great communication up front on meeting location, parking, etc was so helpful. Our guide, Daniel, did an excellent job describing some of the local buildings, customs, and food we were eating. Visiting the two markets was fun and if we were staying in San Jose for any length of time I would go back and sample even more fruits and vegetables. They were so fresh, delicious, and an incredible value. Ending the tour learning about making coffee, and then trying it was fun. Highly recommend this tour.

This was a great way to see San Jose! I've visited Costa Rica before but we were on a large group tour that hit different areas on the Pacific side and we only spent a day in San Jose. Since I was in town for work I was hoping to find a short weekend excursion and I really wanted something close to where I was staying. I also really wanted a walking tour.
This tour was exactly what I hoped for. The guide, Angel, was great and incredibly knowledgeable. I lucked out and ended up with a private tour which was so great since I like to ask lots of questions.
We started off with coffee (obviously!) and then the different markets; one where only locals usually go; and one where you will see both locals and tourists.
At the local market I got to try so many fruits I had never even seen before that were all delicious.
The last stop was a restaurant that is designed to look like a typical Costa Rican 'grandparents'' house. So 1980s style. (There is a bar with a similar theme where I live in Colorado so this was really cool to see!)
I could go on and on about how much I love this tour but really just to summarize I highly recommend it!

I did the afternoon tour starting at 11:30am
September is usually the rainy season and my weather app predicted afternoon showers but it actually rained in the morning and we had beautiful weather for the tour.
The farthest distance between the stops was about 0.5 miles or 800 meters but the path the tour takes and the way you walk around the market you could maybe double that.
I ate a very light breakfast a few hours before the tour which worked out very well.

This Bites and Sights tour was everything one could expect with Daniel as our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of San Jose. We enjoyed not only the seasonal fruits, coffees and treats of Costa Rica but also the fruit of the friendships he has established in the marketplaces around town. Daniel was excellent in his plan and in communication. We did a thorough tour of the center of the city before visiting some of the tourist sites, ending in a coffee shop where we enjoyed more treats and learned to make plantain empanadas.

This certainly was a trip worth taking and when I bring guests back to San Jose, this tour will be on our itinerary!

Visited San Jose with our 13 year old grandson. Our guide Angel took us through the two city markets and we sampled great new fruits and foods everywhere. No way you could eat lunch after this tour! He then took us to some major historical sites and their tour ended up at their coffee shop where we sampled delicious coffees, ate tamales and made our own empanadas! They even helped us find our way to the right public bus to get back to our hotel! Wear comfortable shoes and plan on a fun day. This tour is a must do for those who are adventurous and love to eat. We highly recommend it.
