Great tour and food by Angel and company
More a tour + local dinner than cooking class. Our guide Angel was amazing. He was very knowledgeable, personable, and passionate about Costa Rican history. We were able to stop by a local coffee shop to taste coffee from a local plantation. The food and drinks were delicious and I recommend this tour as the first thing you do when in San Jose so you can get acquainted with the city as well as have potential tourists to connect with while visiting.

    Not worth the price.
The walking tour was a bit haphazard and not that informative, the cocktails and dinner forgettable. Nice group of participants though.

A great way to spend an evening in San Jose
We took this tour on February 28. It was very well organized. Our guides Angel and Daniel spoke excellent English and were engaged with the group. The Central market was interesting and it was a nice surprise to go inside the National Theatre. The two cocktails they made were quite different than any we have had before. One was bold and spicy and the other was sweet and a bit creamy. Both worth a taste. Finally the tour ended in a house that has been converted to provide a dining experience for the tour participants. It was a delicious four course meal with ingredients popular in Costa Rican culture but not familiar to us. So the tour gave a bit of history of downtown San Jose, a chance to taste some drinks that may be unfamiliar and wrapped up with a delicious dinner. All this with knowledgeable, friendly and interesting guides.

    City Highlights and Local Dinner
Very friendly and knowledgeable guide. Drink making and dinner were excellent. Walking tour was too long. Could have been an hour shorter and expand the dinner time.

    Fun evening in San Jose!
Our guide, Daniel, was very personable and knowledgeable. He walked us through the market explaining many things and also through the city, stopping and telling us about plants, trees, buildings and history. A very enjoyable tour. The drinks and food were good. Well worth the cost. Thank you for a wonderful evening in San Jose!

This was a really fun tour. The cocktail tutorial was cool and we will definitely be making them at home! There was a quite a bit of walking just fyi but the market was interesting and our guide was very knowledgeable as well. The dinner was great also.

    Great time
We highly recommend this tour. We had an interesting time touring the market but the authentic Costa Rician coctails and 4 course dinner were well worth the price.

    Great walking tour (and dinner)
Really enjoyed the walking tour, topped off by an excellent 4 course dinner. My only regret was that we had booked this for our last evening- would recommend this as something to do when you first arrive in San Jose in that the tour provides you with a good sense of the lay of the land in San Jose and what to explore more thoroughly on your own (eg the market).

    Great food!
Pretty good experience, would have been nice to have a taste of one more thing in the market. The “cocktails” were more like shots, which is fine but should be advertised as such. And the “stop for shopping” was in their personal coffee shop, to allow you to purchase their products…. Bit strange. The dinner is the really good part and was definitely worth it!

    Great guides and fantastic food/drinks!
Great tour! Daniel was our guide who was very lively and informative. We took a walk through the central market and around the city. The food and drinks offered were not only abundant but also delicious. *one thing to note is that it says you participate in making cocktails, etc but you just watch them make it. So if you’re going for a cocktail making class I’d go elsewhere. Overall worth the tour and great guides!

Nice guide but wouldn’t recommend this tour.
The guide was kind but there was a lot of waiting. We stood around at the vegetable market at least a half hour while he cut fruit (could that be done ahead of time?). The commercial market was a long wait as well. The coffee and empanada store was good.

Great tour to kickoff off our stay in Costa Rica
San Jose is such a busy city and we werw little overwhelmed, so we were happy to have our guide Daniel. We took an Uber from Adventure Inn and that worked great. Really enjoyed learning the history of the city and visiting the Central Market. Met so many nice people from all over the world on our tour. We visited a coffee house and got to try a couple of Costa Rican cocktails Once at the private restaurant we enjoyed a quaint little dinner with some great beer options. It was an adorable set up. Everything we tried was so good. We were able to get an Uber back very easy. Was a very interesting and fun way to kick off our stay in Costa Rica.

A perfect way to spend an afternoon in SJ! It’s very much worth the price, we got so full on all the delicious fruit, food and dessert. Our guide Dino was great and was the perfect person to introduce or advance your understanding of tico food culture and the city’s history.

This tour was so well rounded and we really wished we would have taken the tour at the start and not the end of our vacation, since we discovered many places we wanted to visit again.

Anyone who says San Jose is not worth staying in are wrong!

We took this tour today with Eric. It consisted of a three hour walk through all there is to see in San Jose city center. Learned about the history, saw many of the interesting sights and snacked on local fruits, coffee and lots of interesting local specialities. Highly recommend this tour to get to know the city and discover all of the local souvenir markets.

I took this tour Sept 2021. It was a small group - four of us and the guide. Eric was an amazing guide. the tour was a mix of city information, cultural info and his personal take on some of the things happening in the country right now. I generally have the attention span of a flea but i enjoyed this four hour tour because we walked, made stops for coffee and beer, and finished with dinner at one of the nicest restaurants in San Jose. All in all this was a fantastic way to see the city and hear some culture as many of the other tours involve long car rides to the waterfalls and volcanoes. If you only have an evening and want entertainment and dinner this is a great option. Thanks so much Eric!!

I had one day left in Costa Rica and flying out of SJO, it was easiest to spend it nearby. So looking at what was available, I found this.

This was really great value - we had a walking tour and learned about the city, learned about local spots, tried tasty familiar and new fruits, and got to try food and learn how to cook a tasty treat, as well as a coffee tasting and educational session on it!

Our guide Daniel was great and as well as Eric who fed us and showed us how to make something new!
This was my last day and literally the last activity I did before leaving, and it was a really nice way to end my (33 day) trip!

The tour was so much fun. We went to two markets, sampled lots of foods, and got a feel for San José. I am a city person, so it was actually one of my favorite tours in Costa Rica. I went with my mom and she asked lots of questions. The tour guide was patient and engaged the entire group while also making time for individual questions.
Tip: I recommend you buy some fruits in the first market you go to as it had the widest variety of fruits for local prices. Also you should try the ice cream at the second market- Central Market!

We booked this tour to learn more about San Jose and the unique foods that make this country a travel destination. We were thoroughly impressed by our guide who guided us in English through downtown San Jose. We learned so much about everything from coffee and fruit to ceviche and ice cream. We could not have done this type of tour on our own and learned so much in such a short period of time. The amount of food we ate easily covered the cost of the tour. The hands on experience at the end where we learned to make Empanadas was wonderful. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to really learn about San Jose. The group size was small and the guide and company were first class!!

Eric our tour guide was very calculated in the way he runs the tour. We go through the city where each stop has some historical significance. We started where the first settlers landed and slowly move through the city as other groups are introduced. With these introductions of new people comes the introductions of new art, food, and construction. On this tour you get to taste and drink authentic Costa Rican delicacies and see the process of how and why the Country expanded the way it did. You can tell Eric is very knowledgeable and passionate about his work. I definitely recommend this tour to understand the real Costa Rica.

Our guides Daniel and Angel were friendly, informative, and entertaining. We tasted Costa Rican coffee, fresh fruits, empanadas with an extremely crisp corn breading, tamales that were so moist, and a surprise dessert. Absolutely delicious! I appreciate the attention to detail that they had in cutting/presenting the pineapple right at the fruit stand. The central market has overwhelming options so it was a treat to have an experienced guide introduce us to the local flavors and culture. Did you know you could have a complete conversation just saying Pura Vida? Lastly, we felt safe from start to finish. We are so thankful that we booked this tour.

Our guide Daniel was great and gave us a fantastic afternoon tour, showing us the key buildings & statues within central San Jose and explaining the history behind them.
This was in between visiting 2 busy markets and sampling the local produce.
The tour finished with making our own plantain empanadas, followed by coffee tasting.
After all the delicious food, we certainly did not need dinner later!
Daniel kindly stayed with us in the shop whilst we waited for our Uber to arrive and in case we needed WiFi etc.
A thoroughly enjoyable tour that exceeded our expectations!!

We loved that it was a private tour - just our guide, Erick, myself and my spouse.

It was fun to walk through the markets with an historical perspective, to get explanations for some of the "odd" items we know nothing about and to taste different local bites and fruits and beverages we would not have tried on our own.

We also went to the gold museum which was much more interesting with our guide versus just reading the signs.
