- avereeamend0 contributionsWorld Class Friend, Better FishermanI have never gone on a guided trip with Scotty but him and I go back to the very beginning of his Alaskan fishing endeavors. Scotty is all about catching fish but more importantly he wants to have a good time. I can guarantee that clients loved their trips and their catch. When it is cold outside, he has heated seats and the Stanley's filled with hot coffee. When the fishing is hot, he is awake preparing the boat before anyone else is awake. You can't go wrong with booking a trip with Scotty. The fishing is world class, the boat is a Cadillac on the water, and the experiences are unforgettable.Written February 25, 2020

Great trip!! I traveled to Alaska for a work trip not knowing if I was going to be able to get a salmon fishing trip in due to my schedule, but Scotty worked with me and made it happen. He put the group in a position to be successful and worked hard the whole trip to ensure it. Everyone limited out, and it was all smiles from the whole group! Scotty is a professional and I would recommend him to anybody looking for a Kenai fishing guide. I left wishing I had another day to do the trip all over again.

The thing that really stood out for me was at the start of the day Scott took time with each of us individually to teach us the fishing technique. As we caught fish he continually coached us on how to land them by ourselves. He hustled back and forth to work with each of us as we had a fish on. Also to note there were other groups with guides fishing by us that were not nearly as successful, as we caught fish at a steady pace until we hit the limit. Scott was professional yet very personable. We all had a great time, he was awesome!!!👍

My family had an AMAZING TIME on the river with Scotty! If we could give more than 5 stars, we would. We had great communication from booking until our actual day on the water. Scotty answered all questions we may have had and checked in with us several times. He is very easy to talk to and is extremely knowledgeable about the river, rules/regulations, any wildlife we happened to see along the way and of course, fishing! You will feel like you are on the water with your fishing buddy. His boat is comfortable, we had plenty of room and his equipment was top notch. He even had at a heater at the front of the boat to warm you up on a chilly morning. Scotty put us all at ease and was great with our 9 yr old daughter - from helping her get into her waders to walking her through the steps of how to use the equipment and get her line in/out of the water. He worked hard the entire trip to put us in the right places at the right time and when she hooked her King Salmon, Scotty talked through every step of the fight until it was in the net! It was awesome! We are already looking forward to booking our next trip with him!

We had such a great experience we're already trying to figure out how to make fishing with Scotty a regular tradition. My husband and extended family went out on one trip with Scotty and then my sister & I went with my 5 & 7 year old sons a few days later. Both trips were excellent. The boat and gear were great, but where I think Scotty really stands apart from other guides/trips was his communication, his attentiveness and commitment to his clients to have the best time (including kids). My boys had the time of their life and it is all due to Scotty's efforts on their behalf. Having a good ratio of adults to kids helps, but because of Scotty's involvement I was able to fish on my own as well and have a great time catching Sockeye. Lasting memories for all. Thanks again Scotty!

I hat an amazing opportunity to fish with my good friends Averee and Scotty on the Kenai in July for the "reds" and let me tell you what, Scotty Daletas is a world class fisherman and guide. Yes, it's about catching fish and we did that for sure but Scotty helps make it the trip and memories you'll never forget. I highly recommend!

Really appreciate sharing your memories of your fishing trip on the Kenai River for sockeye salmon with us! I remember those were some huge Sockeye that day, I still think you've caught one of the largest Sockeye I've seen guiding on my boat. It was great getting to know where you call home and also sharing my home with you. Can't wait to get you back up to Alaska and make new fishing memories together!

My family and I have been fishing the Kenai river for a number of years. We booked a trip with Kenai Drift Anglers with goal of learning to improve our fishing technique and put more fish in the freezer. Our guide Scotty catered to each of our individual needs and gave us advice that helped all of us catch our limit! The heated seats in his boat kept us warm too! Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to catch fish on the Kenai.

If there’s one place that you should go salmon fishing in the US, it’s the Kenai River in Alaska. If you’re fishing the Kenai River in Alaska, you want to book Kenai Drift Anglers. Eight months earlier we did all our research and booked Kenai Drift Anglers. Eight months later, we’re standing in the glacial waters of the Kenai River flossing for salmon. What? You never heard about flossing as a fishing technique. Me neither but our guide, Scotty, explained this unique fishing method.
We were targeting Sockeye salmon, hoping to catch the last run of the season in mid-August. Scotty explained to us that Sockeye swim upriver to spawn and they swim with their mouth open. You basically cast your line perpendicular to the current, cast at noon as Scotty explains. Then, while the rod tip is pointed down, slowly sweep your rod tip to about the three o’clock position to a count of three. Just before reaching the three o’clock position, increase the speed to set the hook.
It’s crazy to think that tossing a hook at the end of a line, without bait, into a fast-moving river and hoping that a fish swims by with its mouth open and somehow bumps into the line would work but we’re heading home with over 50 lbs. of ‘Red’ Salmon. Thanks to Scotty’s easy mannerism, patience, expert teaching, guidance, advice, knowledge of the river, and ability to put us on the fish, this was truly a rewarding fishing experience. We kept him busy too. He was running up and down the rocky river, helping us free snags, patiently instructing and re-instructing us on technique, calmly talking us through landing the fish, and most importantly netting the fish. He always had a big grin on his face when one would break off as he exclaimed, “that was a big Sockeye!”
He expertly filleted the fish, recommended a fish processing company to prepare the fish to take home, and took the trophy pictures to share with family and friends. It was a fantastic trip, a memorable experience, and Scotty is a terrific guide. Highly recommend you book him today.

The entire experience with Scotty was enjoyable. His communication was clear from the start and he picked us up from the boat launch on time. He had hot coffee and cups at the ready as he took us out. His boat was very comfortable, clean, organized and easy to maneuver around in. He set each of us up and gave one on one instructions to ensure we had the technique correct to be successful. His polite reminders when we strayed from his instructions helped each of us net some beautiful sockeye.
He has a great attitude, work ethic and it is clear he loves what he does. His excitement every time we netted a fish added to the thrill of the catch. After we caught our limit, he filleted our fish masterfully, bagged them and used our remaining time to give us a boat tour of the Kenai.
I will be booking again with Scotty the next time I'm in Alaska.

I live in Alaska and an avid fisherman. My dad came to visit and wanted to fish out of the boat for king salmon. Scotty took my dad out on his first Alaskan fishing trip. It was dads first time fishing for salmon. The king fishing was slow for Alaska’s standards, but Scotty worked his butt off and used his knowledge of the river and fish to land us a hog. We ended up getting a 40+ pound king after an awesome fight. My father and I will never forget that fish!
The next day we all limited on sockeye. It was the fish trip of a lifetime for my dad and Scotty made all of that come true. He works hard, is a good guy and he’s very knowledgeable and experienced fishing guide. I would suggest Kenai Drift Anglers to anybody at any ability wanting to catch some hogs on the Kenai or Kasilof River.

Scotty took us out to hook some sockeye and we were not disappointed. The limit was 3 fish per person and two of us reached the limit in under 10 minutes. Those fish were running! Scotty wanted to make sure we really enjoyed our time so after we all reached our limit, he took us on a boat ride down river--we basked in the sun and enjoyed the beautiful water. We took home 12 fish and would recommend Kenai Drift Anglers. Book early if you want a seat on Scotty's boat.
