Driving through a wast of black sand, lava and moss, with mountains and glaciers on one hand and the sea in the distance on the other. You drive for about 1½ to 2 hours east from Vík and you will have Jökulsárlón, the Glacier Lagoon, in about 45 minute drive further east. There you will find yourself located at Skaftafell, Vantajökull National Park. At our private airport you will meet your pilot prior to your flight, who will explain the flight plan.
On this trip, your pilot will fly over Skaftafell, a popular camping site located in Vatnajökull National Park. With good luck you might be able to see Svartifoss, which is unique due to the basalt rock around it. On your way to Landmannalaugar, you might see sights such as Grænalón as you fly over Skeiðarárjökull, Lakagígar volcano craters and Langisjór. Over Landmannalaugar you will see mountains and valleys reach as far as the eye can see. You might also notice hot springs below your aircraft and Hekla volcano in the distance. On the way back, the pilot will fly you over Eldgjá, a valley and a volcano which is linked to the famous Katla volcanic system.
As you land back in Skaftafell, you can take time to chat with your pilot about the route you flew and the sights you saw.
