This place was very interesting, lots to see and lots to do, my son is 6 years old and he said it was scary I wouldn’t recommend it for younger kids but older ones yes, very graphic and very detailed. Definitely worth the money along with the micro museum it was fun to see all the little objects in a micro form. Well worth the visit.

I'm glad that you enjoyed our museum as well as micro art collection. We did our best to make it as realistic as possible. Like you mentioned we don't recommended bringing small children due to the graphic nature of our museum. Either way, I hope to see you again.

Overall, I loved the museum as a whole. The props were well done and the experience inside the museum was top tier. However, one of the staff members was extremely rude when I was attempting to look at a knife that I was looking to purchase. She wasn't interested in letting me look at the knife unless I was going to purchase it. There was another employee there who was extremely helpful and enjoyable to work with.
Overall, if you are looking to check out this museum I would highly recommend it but be aware of the staff.

Glad you enjoyed the museum. Sorry you found the staff unfriendly. we try to be an friendly and helpful as possible. There are some items that are difficult to get up and down so we do sometimes make sure someone is really interested in it before hand due to the hassle.

Right from the warm greeting we received I knew we were going to enjoy ourselves. The museum is located on the second story, but is accessable for everyone. The decor is very cool and starts out on the steps up. You buy tickets right at the top in the gift shop. We had previously booked our tickets online, but the pleasant woman running the museum was easily able to locate our reservations. My daughter and I opted for the Audio tour, ghost hunt game add-ons. A micro art museum is another choice for combos. As for the museum itself I can't say enough positive things about it. It is obviously a labor of love. The displays, which consist of scenes with very impressive wax figures and various other props arranged to showcase the authentic looking and probably actually authentic torture devices of the middle ages. All throughout are history lessons on the uses and lineage of each item. It is dark for effect, but lit very strategically and intelligently to show the patron the reading materials. It is very creepy setting wise and you really feel the time period and the subject matter. The small amounts of interactive displays were a highlight. Now the reality of things. Is this a Hollywood level effects attraction...no. Is this a scare attraction..no. It IS an awesome independent museum which is very well run. The decor, space and subject matter is treated with such love and talent that this would be a shame to miss on a visit to St. Augustine. This is a history museum, a dark history museum. Notes: I would like to see more of a selection of items with the museum's name and logo on them. Also the Ghost hunt game was fun, but in a crowded museum was less fun and almost made us an annoyance. It also ate through my phone battery. Not a complaint, just an observation. This is truly a five star place to me.

The Medieval Torture Museum is the quintessential tourist trap. It is located in the middle of a heavily-trafficked street in a tourist town. It has nothing to do with St. Augustine. There are no artifacts here - it’s a collection of reproduction torture devices and ghoulish victim casts designed to attract the tourist bait rather than a museum with items someone might seek out. It’s pricey at $20, though admission includes the miniature masterpieces exhibit, too. That being said, it’s transparently a tourist trap attraction and delivers exactly what it promises - a lot of creepy torture imagery and an audio narrator who enjoys human suffering far too much. I only visited because it’s conveniently open late, so I wasn’t skipping something else to visit, and what are vacations for other than to spend your money on such frivolities?

We had visited on a prior trip, but this time we also viewed the Micro Masterpieces and listened to the audio tour. The Micro Masterpieces are mind-blowing! I wish there was information posted about the artists and the process, but enjoying the pieces was also good.
I highly recommend the audio tour! On our prior visit, we enjoyed the museum as the displays are top-notch and realistic. However, the audio tour elevates the experience. The ghastly narration coupled with the historical stories is purely terrifying!

I'm happy that you enjoyed our museum enough to come again! The Audio Guide does a good job adding an extra bit of history in the form of stories but not too much to make it boring. As for the Micro-Art Gallery it is a great way to help clear your mind after the disturbing museum. We do understand that we need some information about the artists. Though in the meantime your always welcome to ask our knowledgeable staff any questions you may have. I hope that we see you again!

Had a great time! The museum is definitely macabre but also historically accurate and educational. When touring through, it's highly suggested to use the audio guide. It provides interesting tidbits of information and gory details of the various methods and instruments of torture. The ambience is cool and creepy with flickering candlelight, quietly droning sounds and old style illustrations along the walls. The dungeon vibes were captured well. Some interactive displays are there too. The ghost hunting game is a free bonus used via app and there's the option of checking out some incredible miniature art that must be viewed through microscope, though that costs a little extra for admission. The staff was delightful. Highly recommend!

My husband and I expected this to be campy and stupid. Boy, were we wrong! We paid for the audio tour, and it was totally worth it. The audio tells a story for each torture device, and it's truly interesting. We saw people going through it without the audio tour, and they were laughing and moving through quickly. I highly recommend the audio. The young man who was working was very informative as well.

With only a day to explore some of the attractions in St. Augustine, we chose this because it was unusual. This place reminded me of a large haunted house! There are some great examples of old devices from the past that are creatively displayed to illustrate their effectiveness. Some parts seemed so real. We took the package which included the online audio tour, with each of the 42 displays explained and described. It certainly provided more entertainment than expected. The Micro Masterpieces gallery was very interesting, too. If you like haunted houses at Halloween time, you would love the Medieval Torture Museum!

Went with a group of friends and it was an entertaining experience. There were great audios to help guide the tour and some torture mechanisms that you could try. The only downside was that there were several people not wearing masks, so if you're concerned about exposure, I wouldn't recommend it. The micro masterpieces were neat and the details are incredible.

So glad you enjoyed the museum. Right now we do still recommend wearing masks but we do not enforce masks due to the mask law being lifted in our area. I'm sorry if that hindered your experience.

I recommend purchasing the audio guide. It made all the difference. If I would have gone without it, I would have been very disappointed in paying so much for the very short descriptions written next to each device. The audio guide on the other hand gives you a detailed description and historical stories. The audio guide will be on your phone so make sure to have charge on your phone. The employee will give you a website and password to access the audio. The Microart was interesting, but I wouldn't pay extra to see it. We had a good time and enjoyed this museum. Something different. I would recommend you check it out.
