Don’t take this tour - a rip off
Dreadful - wrong size coach - didn’t see what was promised and an aggressive tour guide. The price of the tour was far too much (£120 pp) we expect a small minivan and a guide who was knowledgeable. Her attitude was appalling and she was dressed as if she’d just fallen out of bed (leggings and a T-shirt)!

Highly recommended Day Tours to Harris & Lewis
I had two amazing tours with Annie. One day tour of Harris & one day tour of Lewis. Annie provides professional, custom tailor-made tours. She is very knowledgeable about the history behind these gorgeous islands. Annie is friendly, patient, & reliable. I also felt very comfortable with her safe driving. Her camera skills were also amazing as she managed to captured priceless memories for my birthday 🥳 trip that I was on & even bought me a cake.

        Ripp-off in Stornoway
The tour was planned on 22th of July for 4 persons. It was cancelled at 8am "for illness" with a pledge of reimbursment. But we are still waiting for our money back, unless numerous requests. This is dishonest !!!

The best method for touring the islands
We had a wonderful tour of Lewis with this company. The local knowledge base is amazing. The stories are so personal and revealing of the culture that we strongly recommend them.

Non responsive when our ferry crashed and we couldn’t make the tour.
Warning- Beware of tours that have very few reviews like this one! Last May, my friend and I booked a tour on the Isle of Lewis with a company called Love Hebrides. Days before the tour, we had to cancel because the ferry boat that was taking us from Uig on the Isle of Skye crashed at the dock and there was no other way available for us to get there. I called by telephone, sent Facebook messages, texted, and sent emails to this company and they never replied. Note that nowhere in their literature or online did they even state a cancellation policy. I tried both before the tour was to be held, after and even after I returned to the U.S. with no response at all. I even left messages on their Facebook posts. They charged me the full price for the tour tickets. I put this into dispute with my credit card company, they investigated, and I learned last week that they ruled in my favor. I don’t know if this used to be a reputable company or if I just got completely scammed. Everything else about Scotland was so wonderful. But I do NOT recommend Love Hebrides. Three months later I still have not heard even ONE WORD from them.

        Excellent Love Hebrides tour
Only in Stowaway for one day and wanted to quickly visit the Butt of Lewis and Port of Ness. Love Hebrides were able to accommodate this short tour for us. A massive thank you to Annie for fitting us in to her busy schedule and for being such an informative guide. Thoroughly recommend Love Hebrides and again thanks to Annie for the excellent tour.

A memorable Island trip that will live forever in our hearts!
After many months of excitement leading up to our amazing Scottish Adventure, I finally met the extraordinary Annie MacDonald from Love Hebrides in April 2022. As tourism is by far the backbone commerce of the Outer Hebrides, I always knew I wanted to hire a local islander with a small business. Annie is an astonishing woman who is kind and immensely passionate about her Lewis & Harris community. Annie is also a great story-teller of traditional tales and folklore passed down to her through generations. As she drove us to each hidden gem, she would share interesting tidbits. We even learned a bit of Gaelic. Annie proudly holds her traditions close to her heart as one of the few islanders that speaks Gaelic. Annie has taught her children Gaelic and says her grandkids will also speak Gaelic. Scottish Gaelic is still a predominantly spoken language on the Outer Hebrides, with more than 50% of the population fluent in the language. I admire her for having such pride in her culture and heritage. Lewis is an oasis with stunning beaches, unspoiled fertile countryside, immense white beaches, rugged coastline, unique culture, and delicious food. The simplicity of life on the island is what is most appealing to me. Annie wasn’t just our private tour guide; she became part of our family instantly. Annie is funny, easy going, very flexible and happy to offer you the best tour experience. Annie drove us around the winding roads of Lewis safely. Lewis is mostly flat, with miles of peaty moorlands stretching across the center of the island. Then around the coast you’ve got stunning sandy beaches and rocky headlands in the east, and the deep waters of Loch Suineabhal. We visited the Black-houses and Shielings. Annie explained not only the history but also detailed information about their uses and how families lived or sheltered in such housing. She was very informative and having been born and raised on the island all her life she has immense knowledge of the area. Annie also took us to the impressive Calanais Standing Stones; the beautiful beaches; Dalmore Beach, Traigh Ghearadha(Garry Beach), Mangersta Beach, Dailbeag Beach, Ardroil Beach, Tolsta Beach, and Bosta Beach. Each uniquely exquisite. We took a private whisky tour of the Abhainn Dearg Whisky Distillery in Uig, and afterwards, we all dined on the west coast of Lewis at the Uig Sands Restaurant. On our second day, we stopped at Lews Castle, and then drove by historic Stornoway Harbour. The harbour is hugged by charming shops and a variety of restaurants. Just before heading out to airport, we ended our great tour with a stop at Mealabost Beach. A traditionally Gaelic-speaking village in Point on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis, in Scotland's north-west. We had a memorable trip that will live forever in our hearts. Annie is the perfect tour guide to see the Isle of Lewis & Harris. If we ever make it back to the Outer Hebrides, I would love to connect with again!

        Annie’s Amazing Tours
Note: probably best to book through the website or Facebook. Had a magnificent time with Annie on the Lewis and Harris tour! The Harris Tweed weaving demonstration was very informative and fun, and driving through Harris was a “feast for the eyes”. We declined to tour the Harris Gin facility as we’re not big gin drinkers, but it is an option for people who are. Also, Luskentyre beach is not to be missed! The Lewis tour was incredible as well, and gave you a good idea what it was like living on the island at different points in time. The black house was particularly fascinating. Annie is full of stories and jokes on the scenic drives between sites, and she’s an excellent photographer as well. Most of my favorite pictures were taken by her! And she clearly knows her stuff, as she got us to the Callanish Standing Stones at the perfect moment in terms of lighting and crowding. If you’ve only got a few days on the islands and want to pack in as much as you can, definitely choose Love Hebrides tours! If you’re doing the Lewis and Harris tour, be sure to bring snacks as it is between 7 to 9 hours long (with a lunch break). Also, it seems like she’s a one woman show at the moment, so she didn’t contact us until the day before our tour.

Great day seeing the sights of Lewis
Absolutely incredible day with Annie. She was very accomodating and friendly, and gave a real sense of what Island life was like both in the past and in the present. Unfortunately I had picked a day where a couple of the sights were closed, and she phoned to advise me of this prior to the day and offered the opportunity to change. While I wasn't able to on this occasion, she more than made up for it with what was available on my chosen day. Highly recommended!

A must when visiting the island - Dont miss out !
Having visited the island a few times before, my partner and myself were taken on a day tour of Lewis by 'Annie' our tour guide, collected from our accommodation and driven around with a full commentary all day including some stops where she escorted us around attractions such as Black-houses and Shielings, she explained not only the history but also detailed information about there uses and how families lived or sheltered in such housing. She was very informative and having been born and lived on the island all her life had immense knowledge of the area and people making it a unique and priceless tour in which you will not match anywhere else on the island. The tour covered not only the regular tourist attractions and some you would not normally find or have heard of but also the history of the island and it's produce such as locally produced food, drink and clothing. This tour is a must for every visitor to the island, dont think you can self guide yourself as you will miss out on so much history and information - this tour really does make your holiday and we fully recommend it.

        Wonderful overview of Lewis
So much to see and learn, so little time. Annie, our guide, gave us a good historical account of the island and allowed us as much time as we wanted at each site. We would never have seen all that we saw in a 6 hour day. (We didn't have a car, but even if we did drive ourselves around, we wouldn't have noticed the things Annie pointed out.) She customized the tour based on our interests, which included a visit to a local weaver and the Callenish Standing Stones + more.

LoveHebrides Lewis tour is first class
Had a thoroughly enjoyable day with Nigel the guide. Despite being the only passenger that day, the tour went on. First class knowledge of the history and natural life of Lewis and Harris. Cannot recommend this tour highly enough, saw some beautiful and fascinating sights. All the best with the business.

Great way to see Island of Lewis
Guide-driver very informative about the island’s impressive history, people and current times. Tour shows its striking geography and special sites. It included seeing modern day, high quality weaver which was very interesting and made me appreciate tweed even more. Highly recommend this day tour.

This is a rip off - £120pp to be hoarded around in a large coach missing out some of the sites promised. We were expecting a minivan tour and so we’re all the other travellers on the coach. The tour guide was aggressive when we questioned her and didn’t dress professionally- tight leggings and a T-shirt made her look as if she’d fallen out of bed!!!!
We did a lot of hanging around and was offered our only lunch break at 11:15!

We paid a premium for a private max 8 bus tour stipulated online with our party of 5. This somehow ended up including 2 additional large busses and 4 other families on our 3rd midsized bus totaling roughly 70+ participants. Each site was overrun with members of our group, and multiple attempts to get details from the organizer went unanswered leaving little recourse until we found out on arrival. There was no guide commentary as the guide only sat on a different bus than ours. Drivers did the best with they could, but truly disorganized where the same could have probably been accomplished with a taxi. Unbelievable location was the only reason for a star.

The tour provided by Annie was simply amazing. Not only did we visit many beautiful locations, but the wealth of information that she shared will remain with us. We were never "rushed" and were made to feel relaxed. When we return to Stornoway, we will seek Love Hebrides for additional trips. We have been sharing pictures of the Harris tour to our family. They now understand why we like Scotland so much.
Annie describe Harris a s "feast for the eyes" and Lewis a "feast for the mind."

Instead of s group tour for up to 8 people we were on a bus of over 30. We only went to one of the 3 advertised stops- the standing stones Never went to the church and never went to Lewis Tour lasted 4 hours instead of 6. Simply not as advertised and not worth the money

We had an amazing trip to a very special place. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide than Annie. She made sure that we saw every place that we hoped to see and more. We learned a lot, saw some beautiful sites, and met wonderful people. As a tour guide, Annie was brilliant. She shared history, stories and local knowledge, answering our many questions along the way. Annie helped us connect with family, find family homes, and made sure we had all the time we wanted to explore and visit.

We’ve just got back from an 8 hour tour around Lewis and Harris with Annie. We were in a group of 7 people which was a nice sized group.

Annie is very friendly and knowledgeable about the island and their history.

The tour took us to all of the places we as a group wanted to visit and some hidden gems we didn’t know about.

Annie also provided snacks and drinks for anyone who needed them as not much open shop wise on Sundays.

Clean and comfortable mini bus and worth every penny

Annie appears to be often overwhelmed by her business. Ten of us were left standing on the sidewalk as she filled our van with others instead. She was nasty and impatient because she had screwed up by overbooking (by a lot). We compared notes and discovered we had all been promised an 8-seat van. She slammed her door while screaming "get a refund" as she drove away, to our utter astonishment. Luckily it turned out that the tiny town of Stornoway had an available taxi driver who gave us the best tour ever --- he even reversed our route so we wouldn't run into the tour busloads. A horrid start to the day but which turned out wonderfully. Do not trust Annie for good service, or any service at all.

Loved our tour with Annie driving around the greatest hits of Lewis - Annie is a fantastic storyteller, historian and purveyor of local culture and insights. Absolutely and utterly recommend booking for a passionate, local, and above all engaging tour. She also takes fabulous pictures and took us off the beaten track to introduce us to some very special places of relevance to her own childhood and family. Fantastic day out and could not recommend highly enough!!!
