Small Group Walking Tour Corktown is Popping in Detroits Oldest Neighborhood

    What to Expect
Make your way to a centrally-located meeting point in the Corktown neighborhood, where you’ll join a guide and small group on the walk to the first stop of the day, a block that’s been key to Corktown’s revival, with restaurants and bars that bring Detroiters from around the city.

Your guide will share fascinating stories and facts from Corktown history, and introduce you to some of Detroit’s blend of blight and revival. Take in the massive railroad station that’s been abandoned since 1988, and learn why the city left the elegant structure to rot. Continue to Detroit’s oldest surviving residential neighborhood, which is packed with brightly-painted Victorian houses and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Along the way, you’ll spot one of the oldest churches in Detroit, and have the chance to ask questions about life in the city, and what’s happening now in Detroit and Corktown.

The final stop of the day is the Gaelic League Irish American Club, where you’ll finish the tour with a half pint of beer (or a soft drink).

Bob gave us a fun and interesting tour of historical Corktown. I've lived in the suburbs almost 30 years and can't believe I've never explored this area. Bob knows all the local history and includes little anecdotes. Because we had paid for two in our...More

We had a great guide who could answer all our questions and made Detroit's history very interesting. You could appreciate the importance of this city and community. The tour ended with an Irish beer which was refreshing after our 2 hour walk.

Bob was a terrific guide. Knowledgeable, funny, kept a casual pace (on a very hot day). This is a fabulous way to get to know a city.

This is a walking tour of a residential neighborhood. After seeing a few homes you have seen them all. There is no great architecture or anything of interest. If you are a baseball fan you might enjoy seeing the remaining diamond of the old Tiger...More
