- Maps6734470 contributionsMy favourite new Winery!!It was an amazing experience to discover wine form Puglia and the Numen just became one of my favourite chardonnays. Many thanks to Filomena with her extensive knowledge and allowing us to try some other wines they produced. The wines were just exceptional. I learnt a lot and I have be definitely become customer. Hope to go for their aperitivo next time I am in PugliaWritten August 17, 2020
- thejaniemac20160 contributionsA great wine tour in PugliaOur party of six were on a weeks visit to find our favourite Primitivo wine and we started with Cantine Paololeo. Filomena was very informative and answered all our questions around the wine process of the local wines that come through their winery. The tour included a tour around the winery and we saw the process from delivery of grapes to the bottling. We travelled a few kilometres to the fields where the vines grow and even though the harvest had finished, there were still some grapes in situ. The wine tasting with local meats, cheese, and olives took place at their shop and we thoroughly enjoyed not just the Primitivo but the other chosen wines too. Filomena gave us a comprehensive explanation to each wine and others available in the shop. We took away several wines as we continue our research. The whole visit took around three hours. Would definitely recommend this wine tour.Written October 19, 2019
- RJBPNewZealand0 contributionsShould have been greatWe had booked through a travel agency (Stile Italiano Tours, Milan) a visit to the winery to witness the processsing of the grapes, harvest having started a week before. Having arrived late (no thanks to GPS) we were met by our guide, Philomena, who said that the winery was shut: it always is on Saturdays and Sundays, and the company had often told the travel agency. A brief visit to a small barrel hall then whisked off to the company wine shop in town. Philomena gave us a very limited (3 wines) win-tasting with small amounts of bread, cheese and meat, but nothing like as good as what we were given the day before at the Museo Primitivo. The agency charged us 40 euros per person for a winery tour that didn’t happen and a limited wine tasting that was not as good as the museum’s which was about half the price. Not Philomina’s fault - it was the fault of the travel agency.Written September 12, 2019
- Cforey0 contributionsLovely winery. Great tour and amazing winesA fantastic tour hosted by Filomena. Very friendly and knowledgable about the local area, winery and it’s 40+ wine selection. Highly recommended tour and some fantastic wines to taste accompanied by meats, cheeses, breads and olives.Written July 24, 2019

- hoffil0 contributionsVisit of the Paololeo wineryWe visited the Paololeo winery and shop. IT was sensational to visit Apulia’s largest family-owned wine business. The cherry on the pie was wine tasting with Food pairing. Really great wines and a recommended wine museum. Special thanks to Filomena for taking so well care of us. So well we even adopted a 80 year old vine named Dotson Rosso 😍🍷Written April 22, 2019
- misanta770 contributionsThe best place to enjoy and learn about local winesI went for a wine tasting because I didn´t have time for the full wine tour... but I recommend to do the whole thing. The wines are amazing and the people so friendly and professional. Monica made a great selection for me to understand more about Neroamaro and answered to all my questions with great knowledge. Thank you!Written April 9, 2019
- Jolber0 contributionsFabulous lunch, wines and an amazing hospitality at Cantine Paolo LeoOn the day of our visit a strong and warm wind hit the village of San Donaci and it had rained the night before. As it was Sunday our group could not visit the (closed) winery, but was taken instead to 2 different vineyards. Marco, PaoloLeo’s export manager and our guide for the day, explained the different soils/terroirs and grapes, and PaoloLeo’s philosophy how to work with them. They mostly work biologically and the constant wind, either from the east or west, certainly helps this way of farming, as it keeps the grapes dry and healthy. In the second vineyard of Cantine PaoloLeo, the DorsoRosso vineyards in the Carritelli area, Marco explained the 60 years old Negroamaro albarello bushes and the PaoloLeo project to adopt an albarello vine. Our visit was in October and we saw bunches of small grapes - the racemas – lingering on the vines after the first round of picking. Racemas are small bunches of grapes that were not yet ripe enough during picking the first time around. And then our little adventure began when our bus got stuck in the clay/mud and Paolo Leo himself came to our rescue along with the rest of his family and staff. Not only did they manage to get the bus on the road again, they transported us in their own private cars back to the beautifully renovated “old” winery in San Donaci, now tasting room and shop. The hospitality of Paolo Leo, his family and the staff, was amazing. We felt so welcome and relieved that it helped us to enjoy the tasting and lunch that followed even more. We were served a range of different wines that accompanied our copious and exquisite lunch. After an introduction by Paolo Leo, Marco explained the wines and recommended the wine/food pairing. Each wine was paired with one or two dishes. We all enjoyed the intimate, convivial lunch as we learned about PaoloLeo’s wines. I would highly recommend a visit to Cantine PaoloLeo when you are in the Salento area of Puglia!Written November 19, 2018

- Mongobarde0 contributionsExpert Wine TourWe did the Expert Wine Tour together with Natalia. It was the best experience that we had during our 2 week round trip through Puglia. Natalia showed us everything in a very detailed way and answered all of our questions very kind and with much expert knowledge. The Wine tasting was overwhelming, and we discovered some new highlights in the portfolio of paololeo. To be honest paololeo have the best wines that we had so far in our live =) Don't struggle to book these tours, they are great and wort every €.Written September 26, 2018
- ChiantiKid0 contributionsPrivate, "Insider" Vineyard, Winery and Tasting ExperienceOur tour was arranged for us by Masseria Trapanà, one of our accommodations in Puglia for our summer 2018 trip. We met Natalia in the Paololeo wine shop in San Donaci. She joined us in our rental car for a short drive to the vineyards, then on to the winery, and finally back to the shop for our tasting. It was like having an insider friend show us around! At the vineyards, we stopped on a rural track, shaded by trees and Natalia talked to us about the vines. At the winery we witnessed preparation of the large fermentation tanks getting ready for the fall harvest, before getting up close to all the processes in the automated bottling room. Next we returned to the Wine Shop--which was the original small production facility for Paolo Leo, now turned into a beautiful shop, tasting room with a small museum. Our package was "Nice and Simple" - 4 wines alone with salumi, cheeses, olives of Puglia. We tasted: Numen (Chardonnay); Grecìa (a rosé of Negroamaro), Passo del Cardinale ( Primitivo di Manduria) and Orfeo (Negroamaro). We bought 4 bottles to take back to Canada with us. Natalia also let us choose, another half bottle each complimentary. As part of the tour, she also provided hats with the winery name to wear in the sun. We visit wineries wherever we travel--and have been on countless tours/tastings. At Paoloeo, we tasted great wines of Salento and we had a great experience. Natalia is engaging and her experiences at Paololeo and around the world add a lot of colour and interest to the experience.Written September 23, 2018
- Yvonne R0 contributionsAmazing tour and tastingOn the 18th of September we started our tour at the winery with Paola. Such a nice and lovely lady she is! We had the chance to see almost the entire process from grapes arriving (one of the last harvest days for Negro amaro grapes) to bottling and packing. Very interesting to see and informative, since Paola gave us a lot of information. We also went to see some of the ancient vines nearby, with the sweetest grapes we ever tasted. The tour ended with a real good tasting with excellent wines, formaggio, salumi, etc. We had a great time and would definitely recommend this tour and tasting to everyone. Thank you so much, Paola and the rest of PaoloLeo staff!Written September 19, 2018
- MargaV30 contributionsFantastic experienceDuring my holidays in Puglia I had a wonderful experience visiting Cantine Paololeo ! The production here is bigger than I expected, so for wine lovers/students is fantastic as you can see a bit of everything. They produce a range of reds, whites, and sparkling so they walked us through all the different processes in winemaking. They've got huge stainless steel bars and a beautiful barrel room. Before the tasting we got to see some bush vines, it was very interesting to me as I had never seen them before in person. The vines in the picture are 55 years old! Last we had a beautiful tasting with different styles and varieties, my recommendation is to try them all haha! My favourite was definitely the oaky Chardonnay they make. Natalia was a fantastic guide with a strong passion for wines, so it was really nice to speak to her and she was very happy to answer all our questions thoroughly. If you're planning to have a trip to Puglia I highly recommend this visit!Written September 19, 2018

Four of us visited Paololeo on Monday the 1st July and did the Taralvino tour which was 29 Euros. Our tour included a visit to the winery proper (which was very impressive, clean and expanding!) and then onto the shop to do the wine tasting.
Our host (Paola) was great, she spoke very good English and was able to explain the stages involved in harvesting the grape and when it came to the wine tasting she took time and gave us some handy tips on how to taste the wine properly.
The selected wines were great and I could not do them justice here but we bought a few bottles for dinner that evening - all told for 29 Euro's we thought the tour and the tasting was great value for money and an excellent way to spend a Monday lunch time - thank you to Paola and the team that hosted us - we hope to be back one day and try some more!

My husband and I got a tour from Paola in English. Her passion for wine was certainly noticeable, she took all her time and spoke perfect English. She showed us all the steps and told great stories about the production and Paololeo's vision. The tasting was very pleasant with delicious wines, good explanations and in-depth information about the wines. The production building was in very good condition and beautifully designed! The store looked beautiful, where the old wine production has been creatively designed. A beautiful balance between tradition and moving with the times. Highly recommended!

Great experience! One of the highlight of our entire trip to Puglia. Delicious wines, very good snacks and a great guide explaining us in English about their wines.
We had to pay upfront, so that information in Tripadvisor doesn't seem to be correct. We were running late because of our own fault but it was handled with flexibility by Cantine Paololeo. The entire experience is highly recommended by us.
