This organisation was incredibly professional, and the service they offered wonderful. Gemma was an outstanding guide and, when I experienced difficulty, was calm and totally in control. Matt the skipper was great too, with clear directions given at all times. Although our trip was cut short due to the weather changing, we could not have asked more of the activity and declined a refund as we well and truly got our money worth. If you're in Byron and want a water- based experience I highly recommend these guys.

Unfortunately, my snorkel trips to Julian Rocks were cancelled for five days in a row due swells and strong currents. There was a cyclone and volcanic erruption which contributed to this unsuitable weather which was just really bad luck. On the day I was flying back home to Melbourne, I decided to try one last time to get a snorkel in. Luckily the weather was better on this day and we made it out to Julian Rocks. There was still a bit of current so we did drift snorkels where the boat dropped us into the water and then let us drift with the current before picking us up and driving us back to the drop off spot so we could get back into the water and do it again. The marine life was incredible! I saw so many leopard sharks, way too many to count. At one point I looked down and saw six leopard sharks at once right underneath me. They were super relaxed and let me dive down very close to them. I saw some beautiful spotted rays which were just swimming around underneath me for a long time. I saw two big bull rays which was awesome. I saw one big turtle while we were on the boat and then one smaller one while we were snorkelling. There were also plenty of fish around too.

I'm so sad to say we didn't have the chance to take our Sea Turtle Snorkeling tour. We booked it for our first full day in Byron Bay, however it got cancelled due to bad weather conditions. They rebooked us immediately for the next morning, and it was cancelled again. We rebooked it three more times (we were really unlucky with the weather during our whole Byron Bay stay), and when our tour was cancelled on our last opportunity, the staff was super quick in providing us a refund. Throughout the whole rebookings process, they were amazing, super friendly and super available.
I'm sure we would have loved to have taken a snorkel tour with their amazing team, and we heard wonderful things about the tour itself, so I would recommend booking it if you have the chance.

Beware! Greedy and arrogant! Finding out the other local dive operator – Sundive, which I used number of times in the past and who were always excellent would be closed the next couple of days, I walked in the Byron Bay Dive shop, to enquire about snorkel trip to Julian Rocks. It was 30 minutes before they closed on Sunday and they too would be closed the next day. The lady at the counter told me they had a last spot available for their next trip on Tuesday (departing in less than 48 hours). She then requested my credit card details to secure the booking, emphasizing nothing is charged until the day of the trip and there would even be $15 discount if paid cash on the day. Unfortunately, the day before the trip I fell ill. Devastated by the fact that instead of being spoiled with sight of majestic snapper, playful leopard sharks, spotted eagle rays and friendly sea turtles, I would have to drop into Medical Centre instead, I tried to call the shop and cancel the trip, leaving the message on the answering machine, as the shop was closed. When I finally got through and spoke to the same counter lady at the shop first thing in the morning, trying to explain the situation, I was just blankly advised of their 48 hours cancellation policy (despite the booking being made within this period) and the fact they will charge me the full price, because it is their policy, full stop, which they proceeded with immediately after the phone call. It may be the company’s right to use the policy to get money from the customer at any cost, but it won’t change the karma they create by doing so. Never again! Sticking with the friendly and fair service we have always received at Sundive Byron Bay for the future and recommending all our friends to do the same.

Hi, Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed, however our cancellation policy is made clear to all customer’s upon booking. In addition to this we send a confirmation email to all customers detailing information about their tour, this also includes the cancellation policy and details specifically the following ‘No-shows and cancellations within 48 hours will be charged the full price”. For any customer booking within the 48 hour cancellation policy the booking is final and cannot be cancelled or rescheduled for any reason, which is stated upon booking to the customer. We are sorry if you do not find this to be fair, however please understand that we are operating a business and have cancellation policies and procedures in place to ensure that we can continue to operate, it is not however to charge the customers at any cost. We are not different to any other business and find this review quite unfair given that you agreed to the terms upon booking. We hope that you can understand. Thanks, BBDC

Please don’t book
With this tour if you are in a difficult organisation situation. - despite the fact that they say to contact them the day before if you travel
Far or are under difficult situations, they don’t take it in count . As a new moms traveling from far I closely looked at the weather situation, called a day before inquire about the big swell as I saw it coming and explained how much it would affect me if they cancel with a short notice ( baby sitters , waking up at 5.30 to organise food for baby etc....). They didn’t take rescheduling as a consideration at all, made me to believe that the swell Will change ( although I clearly saw it on my surfing apps) . The next morning they canceled while I was driving to the location 30 min before due to BIG SWELL ! Seems like the rules and covering the business are preference then considering people’s circumstances and having a heart.

Hi Jana, Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the service that you received. We endeavour to give as much notice for cancellations as possible for our tours, however this is not always possible due to the assessment of the conditions. We did not cancel the day before as we assess conditions for the tours on the morning of the tour as conditions can change and vary from the forecast that we have, therefore the assessment for suitability and safety is undertaken on the day of the tour. We understand that with your circumstances a short notice cancellation was not ideal, however we operate many tours on a daily basis and have to apply the same cancellation policy to all customers to ensure that we are able to operate our business into the future and that it is fair for everyone, it is not because we do not consider a customers circumstance. We were hopeful to operate on the day of your tour and therefore we did not cancel the day before as there was a good chance that we would have been able to, unfortunately this was not the case when the conditions were assessed that morning. We do apologise for inconveniencing you but please understand that we cancelled due to conditions not being suitable or safe not to inconvenience our customers. Thank you. BBDC

Saw lots of fish and a wobbygong shark - Kath was awesome leading the snorkellers. The water was a bit clouded so didn’t see clearly. All in all though felt safe and enjoyed it. I will do it again next time I’m in Byron - wetsuits were amazingly warm and all the gear was top class and you get a shower at the end. Thanks guys.

Byron Dive centre USELESS TO SAY THE LEAST...
Knowledgeable Communication with this company simply doesn't exist, booked my tour 4 days ago online, sent back answers to questions Byron dive centre asked me, spoke to them twice over past 2 days and was booked today to go perfect weather onshore, but offshore not so. I get the safety aspect, but why the bloody hell didn't you show me the experience in your company and call to fit me in 3 days prior when conditions were fine to snorkel.
You ruined a tour I was looking fwd to and won't be back to Byron for some time now.

Byron bay dive centre couldn't organise a chook raffle.

Don't trust this tour company will dissapoint you.
And price advertised wasn't honoured. As attached

Hi, Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that your experience with us was that of a negative one. Unfortunately we did not have any snorkel tours operating earlier in the same week that you were booked due to a mixture of unsuitable wind and swell conditions which resulted in cancellations also. We therefore would not of been able to accommodate you on an earlier tour. Please also note that our snorkel tours on the days earlier were also booked (prior to cancellation) and we would therefore not of been able to move you to an earlier date if the tours did operate. I can confirm that the price of our snorkel tour is $99.00 on our website and our agents website's of which you booked through the Trip Advisor site. https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/AttractionProductReview-g528934-d11991132-3_Hour_Sea_Turtle_Snorkeling_Experience_in_Byron_Bay-Byron_Bay_Byron_Shire_New_Sou.html Please note if you were using the US version of the site then the price would be coming up in US$ which may be why the price was showing differently. Our apologies for this confusion, but unfortunately this is not something we can control. We are sorry again that your experience with us was not a positive one but hope that you will consider rebooking with us in the future. Thank you, Byron Bay Dive Centre Management

Very efficient yet still friendly operation. Their systems work well and everything is thought of. Julian Rocks is a beautiful environment and the snorkel guide did her best to help us spot a variety of fish, including lion fish, plus rays and sharks (reef and wobbegong). No turtle sighting for us but lots of other wonders. My 12 year old son and I loved it.

My son and I went on the snorkelling tour whilst in Byron. I've been snorkelling and diving before, however my Son hasn't. He was given a quick lesson in the heated pool before we went out and I have to say the staff whilst very friendly, were very professional and safety focused. We had a great tour with "Tiff" our guide, she accompanied us pointing out things of interest. We saw turtles, as the name of the tour suggests, rays, sharks and heaps of different types of fish! Highly recommended.!!

All was good with the boat trip, location and snorkel .. but the overall service was disappointing. The man on front desk was very patronising .. the team was disorganised .. staff were always running .. we were assured that vaseline was on the boat (not so) which meant the mask would not seal and spoilt the snorkel experience .. everything felt rushed at times .. but we were back early! Total time = 2h:40mins .. just less than an hour in the water. Though not exactly true .. it felt like we spent more time being processed and washing our wet suit than snorkelling. Note ... be prepared to take no personal items on board .. it will be you in a supplied wet suit heading out. Lockers are provided at base for all your items. I would like to go there again but with a different tour company.
