- P348VGharryh0 contributionsAn eye opening look at the Amish culture and lifestyle. My wife and I took this tour on a Tuesday in early October. This was a good time to go since there was only one other couple on the tour. The staff at the visitor center and the tour guide were very friendly and informative. We were in and out of the tour bus for a little over three hours, and the bus was comfortable. There were multiple stops at Amish farms or businesses along the way. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the Amish way of life and thoroughly answered all questions. The ice cream was very good. Got to meet some young Amish kids at some of the stops. It would have been a better tour if we could have met and had the opportunity to speak with some of the adults. Would recommend this tour for anyone that isn't already familar with the Amish culture. A good value. Time well spent.Written October 7, 2024

- R4070PJjessicad0 contributionsWonderful tourDuring the tour, I learned a lot about the Amish culture, including more than just their traditional horse and buggy. I enjoyed meeting the locals, buying fresh fruits and treats from the roadside vendors, and indulging in delicious ice cream. Our tour guide, Mike, was incredibly knowledgeable and made sure we got to see all the horses. He also provided us with extensive information about the area. Overall, it was a highly enjoyable and informative experience, and I would definitely recommend this tour.Written September 10, 2024

- Dhorton1010 contributionsHighly recommendExcellent tour! Dale was our tour director & he was very well informed on all things in the area. He was very personable & prompt and made the tour a most enjoyable experience. I would suggest taking the 8:30 a.m. tour as they are generally less crowded.Written August 21, 2024
- thatjanetlambert0 contributionsA Must-Do in Lacaster!Dale knew his stuff! Wow! Former history teacher, farm hand, and having been brought up in the Lancaster area gave his credibility and anecdotes something special! Loved this tour--it was really, really good. My recommendation is to offer it as well as the food tour together as a whole day. I didn't want it to end--I felt like we were just getting started.Written August 21, 2024
- 2034uoj0 contributionsWonderful experience, wonderful foodThis was an excellent tour and a wonderful experience. Our driver/guide was extremely knowledgable and, also, very respectful about the Amish and their beliefs and customs. The food was delicious and plentiful (pro tip: don't eat a late breakfast beforehand!!). We enjoyed seeing the countryside and several landmarks along the way. Best of all, we enjoyed meeting the family: a young couple with several children. The day we went was actually the first day that they were "hosting" a lunch. They were lovely and patient about answering our questions (and even shared a recipe for bread...and pie:). The experience helped us check a lot of assumptions we had about the Amish and we walked out of it with a greater understanding for a way of life that, while different from ours, is worthy of respect and admiration.Written August 20, 2024

As a college professor of Modern World civilization I can be very picky about how well tour guides handle such tours. Indeed, I usually am. But not here. Phil did a wonderful job and his personal relationship to the Amish community allowed all sorts of insights no true outsider could have offered.

We were very impressed by "Coach" and his knowledge of the City of Lancaster, its history and its architecture. The fact that the tour then took us out into the countryside and we were given a thorough history of the Amish and the Mennonites was both enlightening and entertaining. Our guide has many, many years of experience giving tours, and had many personal asides and anecdotes for us. He took our vehicle through a maze of winding roads, past all sorts of historical gems, and knew every bit of the area by heart. "Coach was friendly, conversational and informative, and I would highly recommend this tour.

Had a wonderful tour with Phil! He was very knowledgeable about everything in and around the city! Told us all about the Amish and their lifestyle. Walking around the city was an eye opener with the rich history and architectural treasures. We will be bringing our friends with us next time and will be sure to book with him. The drive in the country with the ice cream stop was delicious. Well worth every penny.

Excellent walking tour of downtown Lancaster with lots of information on architecture and people who formed the city. Mike, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable and interactive with participants. Visit to an Amish home and viewing other farms was lovely.

We started this tour with a brisk fall walk in the city of Lancaster with our tour host Mike. He was so knowledgeable about the area. The architecture of the buildings was explained in such detail. We rode out of the city into the beautiful countryside where the Amish culture was explained in great detail which was amazing. We visited an Amish dairy farm where they have a creamery so we enjoyed ice cream in a freshly made waffle cone. Delicious! If you are in the Lancaster area, don’t miss this tour.

Mike met us at 9 am and proceeded to show us around Lancaster on foot. He was thorough, knowledgable and very nice to spend time with. We enjoyed learning the history of Lancaster and the surrounding area. The ride to the Amish Country area was pleasant with two wonderful stops: one was possibly the best ice cream we ever had; the second was a home/workshop of an Amish family. Sadly, the Central Market was not open on our tour day (only open Tuesday, Friday and Saturday). Mike gave us an alternative recommendation for lunch (C'est La Vie) which was great. We highly recommend this specific tour with Mike.

We took a very interesting and informative tour of Lancaster City and Lancaster County. Our guide Phil was excellent. Prior to our arrival to Lancaster, we informed Phil that we were arriving via train on the day of the tour. Phil offered to pick us up at the train station and bring us to the starting point of the tour. We began with a 45 minute walking tour of Lancaster City. Phil pointed out numerous historical sites accomplied with interesting facts. After the walking tour, we drove through the picturesque farmlands of Lancaster County. Phil demonstrated great knowledge of Amish history and culture. We stopped by an Amish creamery and enjoyed a delicious waffle cone (after a few samples), later in the tour, we visited an Amish home and took a quick tour. Our tour ended with Phil generously dropping us off at our hotel.
A great experience!

We started our walking tour punctually at 9:00 AM. Our guide, Mike was extremely thorough, thoughtful and knowledgeable. We never rushed through the trip and took time to explain all the details. Excellent tour. Mike was very knowledgeable about Lancaster’s history and told us lots of interesting facts. The countryside tour was very informative about the Amish way of life. The ice cream was a surprise treat even on a chilly day. Highly recommend this tour if you want to learn a little history and a glimpse of the Amish.

I think it depends. The walking part took about an hour, although we were walking slowly and stopped to take in the sights. If your young kids can walk that far, it should be OK. After that, we went on a minibus to see the countryside and learn about Amish history and farm methods. I can't imagine the kids would be that interested if they are very young, but it's a nice ride. I could see them falling asleep on the ride.
