A carriage tour of downtown Charleston takes you to the city’s top historic sites in a short amount of time—perfect for first-time visitors. Stay out of the sun without missing a sight in the covered, open-sided carriage as your guide regales you with stories and fun facts from the Holy City’s long history.
What to Expect
Arrive at a centrally located stable in downtown Charleston at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. After meeting the horses, board a comfortable carriage and begin to make your way through the heart of the city. The carriage is covered to protect from the sun but open on the sides for easy viewing.

Tour through 20 blocks of the Charleston historic district, visiting top sites such as City Market, the Battery, and Rainbow Row. Your guide fills you in Charleston history—from its early days as a small colony in 1670 to its recent revival—and exemplifies the South’s distinct humor and charm.

The tour concludes at the Old Brick Barn, the oldest active stable in the city and a good jumping off point for the rest of your day’s exploration.

Great way to see Historic Charleston!

Our tour guide Patrick was friendly and well-versed in Charleston history. He shared stories of the past, educated us about the different styles of architecture, and amused us with his interactions with Carson the horse.

Carsons Tour

Our first time in Charleston and we decided a carriage ride was a must. Patrick was our guide and very enthusiastic, entertaining and informative. Carson was our horse, gorgeous and well taken care of. We had a great time. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent Experience

We made reservations in advance for the adults only 10 a.m. tour. We skirted Hurricane Florence but luck had it that Charleston did not suffer from the hurricane. It was not as busy as it would have been I think due to the storm being...More

No, there is no guarantee what route you receive. It is drawn by luck when your tour departs.

You can...if you don’t mind getting a little wet. Carriages have roofs.
