- Layn330 contributionsLove the history!!!We took a tour bus from Nashville. The tour guide and driver were excellent. Bus was clean. When we got to the distillery I was pleasantly surprised. The tour gave us a great way to learn about its history and how early on Jack Daniels was really close to his second in command, an African American. He was also big on employing families children. This it became a close knit family. The whiskey tasting was fun. There is a small area looks like a small Wild West town where shopping is great. This is an awesome tour worth going to.Written September 29, 2024

The tour guide ( Meeka) was fantastic really enthusiastic. Approachable. The tasting room was excellent. And a short walk to Lynchburg main square where we had great BBQ and ice cream. Great prices as well. Highly recommend .👍Written September 24, 2024

- G554DLlaurak0 contributionsBrilliant experience!Amazing whiskey tour!! Our guide Lea was brilliant - he was funny and incredible knowledgable. The tasting experience was good fun and there is definitely a Jack for everyone. The bus journey to and from was fine except our driver didn’t do a roll call/count of persons aboard and miscommunicated the return pickup instructions for some people, so before the journey back we spent 30mins driving around for guests that were actually on the bus.Written September 19, 2024
- N1963WXvanessam0 contributions40th Birthday TripWe toured the Jack Daniels facility September 12,2024. There were 22 of us. Morgan was super fun and informative. From making the barrels, the cave water used, to where the waste goes. It was so much fun. The tasting was well organized and tasted so good. Thank you Morgan for teaching our crazy crew!Written September 19, 2024

- Quest128605067390 contributionsWe Didn’t Have To Drive! The bus was very clean and comfortable. We actually left a few minutes early since everyone in our group was there. It was nice not having to worry about driving in an unfamiliar area or finding parking. The driver dropped us off and picked us up right in front of the Jack Daniel’s Distillery. We had plenty of time for lunch and to walk around the town square. My friend and I were both able to relax and rest our eyes on the ride back to Nashville.Written September 15, 2024
- RobDiSi0 contributionsJack Daniel's distilleryThe tour was very organized and fun to see where every drop of Jack Daniel's is made. The welcome center is decorated with JD barrels and old bottles and the history of how Jasper (Jack) got his experience and first still. The tasting at the end of the tour was cool, but I've had all of them before except the apple. Then you get to spend a little time in the small town of Lynchburg where there are places to eat and shop for anything Jack you can think of. You can even buy barrels at the barrel shop. If you're a fan of Jack Daniel's, and in Nashville for any reason, this was a half day trip that was well worth it.Written September 14, 2024
- joee2300 contributionsDrive yourselfThe 1-1/2 hour bus ride each way was not comfortable es the seats were uncomfortable with limited leg space and no restrictions. The JD tour was interesting as the tour guide was amazingly funny and down to earth. There wasn’t enough time to enjoy the town. We had to eat lunch at 11:00 am just to make are prescheduled tour of the plant.Written September 4, 2024
- Adeldia L0 contributionsIt was great.I did this for my husband he is the whiskey drinker. The tour was great the young lady was very nice and knowledgeable. The place itself was beautiful. - 115donnaj0 contributionsPoor communicationMy credit card had been compromised shortly after I reserved this tour. The tour was unsuccessfully charged to my old card. I was not contacted via text or phone to work out. Instead my tour was cancelled and myself and 3 other couples found out when we went to board and had to scramble.Written August 23, 2024
- ShereeJ_130 contributionsGreat Guide and Great TourThings I liked • This tour was definitely worth it. Our driver was Bob. He was welcoming, funny, and seemed to be even more knowledgeable on the history of Jack Daniels compared to the guide on the actual distillery tour. • The driver texted us about 30 minutes before to let us know where he was and that he was on time. The passenger bus was full, so they put my friend and I in a more accommodating van. • We were back at Nashville by 4:00pm. Things I'd Change • There is a 1.5-2 hour lunch stop around 11:00am in the small town of Lynchburg. They drop you off right in the town square but there isn't much to do in town. We were done eating in 30-45 minutes after arriving, so we just sat around until the driver came back to get us. • The Mint Julep Tours website doesn't offer, or doesn't properly differentiate, between which tour offers the premium blend tasting and which tour offers the basic blend (Jack Apple, Jack Cinnamon Liqueur, etc.) tasting. If I had known there were two different types of tastings I wouldn't have chosen the one I did. • This doesn't pertain to Mint Julep Tours but to the actual venue. My friend and I were both surprised that they do not sell shot bottles of their spirits in their gift shop. We traveled via plane and were both hoping to take some home, but since they only sell the full sized bottles, and we traveled with carry-on bags we went home empty handed. All in-all I would definitely recommend taking this tour with Mint Julep. I just suggest calling before you book to find out which tour to purchase to get the specific tasting you want.Written August 16, 2024

I waited to leave a review in hopes Chip would reply to our email, but after 2 months of "I'm working on a thoughtful reply," he never did. I'll try to keep this short but a lot went wrong.
We booked this tour to avoid drinking and driving, but with how little whiskey we received we could've driven just fine. There was nothing special about this tour, no private tours (we were combined with other people), no special info from our driver, plus our last tasting was at a FREE TASTING ROOM for moonshine, no less! After doing the math of how much each tasting would've been, lunch (which we had to buy ourselves), and gas. It would've been so much cheaper, and safer, to book each tasting and travel on our own. We basically paid for a useless shuttle service.
I tried reaching out to Chip, the owner, the next day. I outlined everything that went wrong. I received an acknowledgment of acceptance. In late October I followed up letting him know I was disheartened I hadn't heard back, and received another "I still intend to give you a thoughtful reply..."Don't make the same mistake I did; what a waste of $200+.

Courtney,
A one-star review, huh? I hate to hear that. I also hate that your expectations didn't align for what was conveyed, or what you expected, when you booked your tour.
I, in fact, responded to your emails and, as mentioned, fully intend to give you my thoughtful response. As the sole communicator for our Trip Advisor 2020 Travelers' Choice award winning company, and one of only two drivers there is a lot on our plate-running tours, daily cancellations and communications, my child starting virtual kindergarten, trying to seize every opportunity while we still can before COVID round 2 comes (it's here), etc. I'm not making excuses; I'm letting you know the reality of it. I am questioning your ability to alter your expectations a little bit considering we're in the midst of a pandemic and your review seems to lack a deeper understanding of current situations. While you enjoyed a Nashville vacation we've been hustling for nine months to stay in business.
You questioned what the pandemic has to do with anything. Here is a brief list: many distilleries are not/were not open at the time of your tour, some tours may be altered (no people in a food grade product facility with COVID threat), reduced tour capacities (harder for us to get our groups in), increased distillery prices to account for reduced capacity, reduced staff with us and distilleries. Every business and person has had to adapt over the last nine months just as we have.
Have you been to a craft brewery in the past nine months and been served a beer in a plastic cup instead of proper glassware? Did you eat a nice restaurant and your food was served with disposable dinner ware? Did your Amazon Prime order take four days instead of two days to arrive? Have you stayed at a hotel with breakfast and the waffle maker was closed due to COVID and you were offered a prepackaged sausage biscuit instead? Would you beat down these companies by writing one star reviews because the variables are out of their hands?
On to the tour specifics: ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How much a distillery actually allows guests to taste is dictated by state liquor laws. They are, as described, tastings. Nowhere does it say that you'll be receiving intoxicating amounts of liquor. Go to a honky tonk if getting drunk is your objective. But, based on 4-5 tastes at each distillery you still have the option to consume a good amount of alcohol.
You would've spent at least $115 on Ubers/Lyfts. That's the cost of one ticket right there. Tastings (and the cocktail one distillery does exclusively for us) would have you in for $89. $115+$89=$204. That leaves less than $25 gross profit on your two tickets. Take out driver pay, countless insurance policies, fuel, maintenance, cleaning, time spent organizing, marketing, etc and it becomes very clear that this is a losing proposition.
A reasonable person might ask "Then why are you running tours?" Even though all the distilleries have raised their prices and reduced their capacities, we have chosen not to. We were optimistic at the time that tourism would rebound and things would be on the right path back to normalcy annd we could reduce our capacity to beyond eight attendees. When permitted the opportunity to resume tours we jumped on it because running tours is what we do. You have to get back to it. We have people who depend on us for jobs for one thing. We have distilleries to showcase. We have to support the distilleries that support us. We're just one cog in a giant wheel. We're not just going to sit by and watch the world fall apart.
That moonshine distillery you speak of does more than moonshine. They may brand themselves as a moonshine distillery, but my count shows EIGHT WHISKIES! Those tip jars on the bar of that distillery with "free tastings" get a generous infusion of cash from us every time we visit. Guess which distillery of the three you visited sells the most bottles to our guests? Yup, that moonshine distillery that makes whiskey. That is positive reinforcement right there. They must be doing something right.
We understand that whiskey may not be for everybody just like gin, moonshine, or vodka doesn't appeal to everyone. The distilleries we visited that day offer a very well rounded experience encompassing Tennessee Whiskey. How boring would it be if they all made a 6 year old Tennessee Whiskey with a mash bill of 54% corn, 40% wheat, and 6% rye aged in a barrel with a char level of 4? I suppose if that were the case I'd be responding to a review about a boring tour where all they make is the same whiskey.
You mentioned in your email that it is weird for a distillery to offer gin (two were offered to you) on a whiskey tour. You don't go to a brewery and get only IPAs do you? Baskin Robbins doesn't serve one flavor do they? Also, this is addressed under the FAQs on our website. There is a reason distilleries make things other than whiskey. Proper whiskey takes years to age. Gins, vodkas, other spirits can quite literally be produced one day and sold the next. Like most businesses, they need to generated cash flow pretty early on. They can't wait four years until the harvest their first whiskey to generate income. So is it that weird after all?
You are correct-lunch is not included. And it was never advertised as if it were. That is a moot point. In fact, we don't have to stop for lunch, but we feel it is a good idea to eat some food while drinking. So why even mention this?
You mentioned that we essentially ruined your Nashville food experience because we ate a later lunch (no restaurants 45 minutes outside of town in the country) and you were not hungry by YOUR dinner time. We don't keep tabs on when people's dinner or lunch times are. My more than six years experience running tours tells me that MOST visitors to Nashville are from different time zones and most eat a later breakfast because they're on vacation and sleep in later, thus a little later lunch isn't problematic. Jimmy would have happily stopped at a gas station to get some snacks should you have asked. He is about the most agreeable guy I know.
You are also correct in that this was not a private tour. Again, another moot point as it was not advertised as a private tour and you did not book a private tour. We have the option of private tours. We do them all the time. You could have inquired about one.
Your initial email criticized the loudness of the air conditioner. I'm sorry, but really? I'm not sure how quiet AC can be on a high setting, but would you rather be hot?
You criticized several times in your email about not being able to get buzzed. I'm not sure about your goal for a whiskey tour, but getting buzzed or not is entirely up to you. Maybe for some that is the objective, and for others it might be to learn the history and experience the art of making distilled spirits in Tennessee. If you wanted to get wasted, perhaps Lower Broadway would've been a better option.
Cheers,
Chip

We were disappointed with this tour as the agenda had changed and was replaced with a brewery (which we were notified of that morning)
The brewery struggled to accommodate our group of 20. Lunch was later than planned (3pm) then the brewery was after that and needed to be completed by 5 and we were very rushed and had to sit outside in the heat as the brewery was full.
The first 2 distillery’s were very good.
We did call customer service and he had no concerns when we shared our disappointment which was very unfortunate to us..

Let's be clear, you called and immediately asked for remediation in the form a refund in exchange for not writing a negative review. To me, that is blackmail.
Per our website, verbatim it says "Tours may be altered or shortened due to COVID, weather, or other reasons." Why are we being penalized with a poor review then? Thank you for acknowledging that you were notified. We didn't have to notify you. We could've just altered the tour, but you still would have been disappointed. We could just omitted the third stop and you surely would have been disappointed. And YOU HAD NO OBJECTION when you were notified. If it was going to be an issue then why didn't you speak up? You asked in your phone call why we have so many great reviews and people have so much fun, but you didn't on your tour. The answer is simple: you chose to not have fun. You and your friends made your mind up that you were going to find something to complain about.
We're all, at least mostly, accustomed to quickly having to adapt and change plans over the last year and a half. We are not exempt from that. If one of our planned distillery stops has to close at short notice we're going to adapt and find an alternative solution-which we did. And which our website says we may do. And we found a very viable and acceptable solution. Why is this an issue?
You mentioned in our phone call that you felt claustrophobic in the brewery. This brewery has 30 ft high ceilings! It was, by far, the largest building you were in all day. You weren't claustrophobic in our luxury 27 passenger bus? You weren't claustrophobic at the first distillery that is only about three times the size of our bus? Again, sadly you were complaining with absolutely no basis.
Furthermore, our lunch break was from 2pm to about 3:30pm. So your timeline is incorrect. Also, you were notified of this the day prior to the tour so that you could plan accordingly. A 2pm lunch isn't so bad if you're coming from the West coast or you slept in on your vacation and ate a later breakfast or brought some snacks for the ride. Again, there is no basis to complain here.
I suggest you place yourself in the position of others and try to understand why things are what they are and that things change and are out of our control sometimes. No scenario may be perfect, but we sure are going to try to make as great as we can.
Also, you have to make beer before you can make whiskey...so a brewery wouldn't be out of line for a distillery tour.
Cheers,
Chip

Tom was our driver and he was fantastic! He made the drive fun and was knowledgeable about the places we were driving past and could answer any questions we had. He picked a solid lunch spot so we could continue on with our whiskey tasting for the day!
All three of the distilleries we visited were fantastic and had good tastings. We’d definitely recommend this to others visiting in the future!

All three stops had outstanding tastings. Each stop was unique in their offerings and setting. Another plus was our driver Jimmy. Born and bred in Nashville he gave us some little know facts about the town. If you fly down bring extra large luggage and bubble wrap to purchase these great whiskeys. You can buy some at the airport too.

Jimmy was a real hoot. Broke the ice with the group as soon as he pulled up. He made the whole experience. The tours were first rate an no one walked away as sober as they started, but that's why we hired Jimmy, right? Come ready to have fun and you will not be disappointed. Feel free to bring something to get yourself started.

Our driver, Chip, was wonderful, accommodating, and made suggestions for things to do in Nashville during the rest of our stay. We went to 3 distilleries and each one was very different from the last. H Clark was so interesting and we wouldn't even know of its existence without the whiskey tour company. Plenty of samples provided at each stop. BBQ for lunch. Fun times! Greatful for the experience!

It was all amazing, each distillery was kind and fun. The driver was great. The Leiper's Fork had the least tastings at 3, the other 2 were Clark and Corsair and they had 5-8 tastings. I do wish the driver would have dropped us off for lunch with more options than what he just perceived to be the best BBQ spot.

Hello. Are the distilleries close to Nashville or is there a long drive? We would like to do the tour, but don't want to spend a good portion traveling like the Jack Daniels tour which is approx 1 hr 40 minutes one way.
Written November 3, 2021
The longest drive to the first Distillery on the tour is about 45 min or less. So much closer than the Jack Daniels tour. That's why we chose this tour.. If you do go on this tour I really hope you get Jimmy the tour guide. He made it all worth while.
