We took the extended backcountry tour (3 1/2 hours). Our guide was Larry Team. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable about the reservation, but gave us bits of history throughout the tour. He also showed us where various movies were filmed.

Larry was a great guide, including singing a native song, and we would recommend him to anyone.

P.S. tip your tour guide. The valley was closed for months due to COVID and all tours were canceled.

Extraordinary! Larry Team, our guide, showed us all we’d hoped to see and more. We would never have found most of the sights we saw, and would definitely would not have understood them, without Larry. In his laidback manner, from the beginning of the tour till the end he told us stories of places, life and beliefs that build Navajo culture. Larry seemed to know everyone and everything that’s happened in Monument Valley and had a story about it. The weaver we saw explain with details and stories. Larry was prepared for anything. When rain started, cold & soaking, he whipped out little plastic ponchos that kept us warm & dry for the rest of the trip. We will remember this tour.
Do not miss this tour!

Our tour guide, Larry Team, was amazing! He shared a lot of history related to Monument Valley and opened up his culture to us. He took us to so many beautiful sights and told us about the best photo spots, angles and even shooting modes to use. You can tell that Larry really knows his stuff! We never felt rushed at any of the stops, in fact, I think Larry took his time really showing us everything possible during the time we had with him! At one point he even sang a Navajo song for us and played a drum at the Big Hogan rock formation. The weather was very cold, icy, and snowy in the morning and the unpaved roads were rough but Larry was a great driver and we all felt comfortable and secure even with the rough terrain and weather. By the afternoon the weather had cleared up and we really got to see the best of both views (with and without snow). I'd highly recommend touring with Larry!!

Very fun tour of Monument Valley. Just driving through the road on your own would be beautiful but you would not learn very much. The guide we had was very nice and we got to see a lot of areas you could not see on the regular road that the normal entrance fee allows you to see (Hogan home, petroglyphs and beautiful rock formations). However, the only thing that stops me from giving this a full five of five is the mask restrictions that are imposed. You are required to wear a mask at all times including when you are out of the vehicle. I believe in masking up around folks and am vaccinated so this is not an anti-mask rant. However, when you are outside away from everyone it is ok to take your mask off. Out of fear that I would get in trouble I kept my mask on due to all of the signs and warnings. Regardless, this was not my place and I follow rules so that is the only reason I give a lower rating. You will wear a mask the entire time you are in the park. Even outside.

Hey there! Thanks so much for the review. Is it possible to bump us up to five stars if you had a great time? We honestly have no control over the mask rule. If we want to operate in the park we have to follow what is required of the Navajo Government and Park and Recreations. Leaving anything less then a five star rating brings down our companies reputation and has a big impact on us on trip advisor. If you can please just rate how the tour went we would be so grateful. Our company means a lot to us. We want to remain a top company. We are listening to any concerns and we care for your satisfaction! Thankfully they are lifting the mask requirement. Thank you!!

As we leave Monument Valley, we feel that we have truly experienced the magic, history and wonder of this unique place on Mother Earth! So glad we did the full day tour because we were in areas where the general public cannot go and the afternoon was very different from the morning.
Larry Team of Tribal Tours was our guide and as a guide, we give him a 10/10!! His knowledge of the area is extensive both geologically and historically and we learned so much about the customs and traditions of the people who have lived here.
Larry is a careful driver, especially over rough terrain and when we chose to climb a steep rock incline to get a closer look at some arches, he led the way and helped us to make it to the top and down again safely. Lots of places he took us, we were the only ones there.
Take this tour, you won’t regret it!!

My wife, Karen, and I experienced a spectacular tour of Monument Valley on the morning of May 22, 2022 as part of our road trip from Ohio. What made this tour so special was our Navajo guide, Reever. He was very informative and told us many traditional customs and stories of the Navajo culture. He learned many of the Navajo stories from his grandmother, who is still living. From her, he passes down his knowledge to us while on the tour. Reever takes this hand-be-down Navajo stories more seriously now that he is older. Reever also played music on his flute and sang a Navajo song under a wingate sandstone alcove with a horizontal arch above. All of us just leaned back against the rock and listened. The mood was surreal and the feeling of being closer to the earth was apparent. Reever was also accommodating and patient and answered all of our questions . I would highly recommend Reever as a superb guide and also the Monument Valley Tribal Tours.👍👍

This was a great tour. It was very cold in the morning and they were able to provide an enclosed van that was able to attach a car seat (make sure you request this if you need to use a car seat). Our guide was very informative and explained some of the Navajo history, customs, and building of hogans. We stopped at the hogan and received a talk/example of the rug weaving process from an elder woman. If you are at all interested in sewing/weaving/etc, this is well worth the stop. She explained and showed the long process of taking the raw wool, prepping it, turning it into yarn, then the dying/weaving process. Just the preparation and dying of the wool can take months. The only thing to know is it does not do the whole 17 mile drive, only about the first half.

Larry Team was our guide and host for an outstanding day! If you have the time, this is THE TOUR to take. Larry knows the backcountry and side-tracks intimately. He re-routed and took secret shortcuts, watching the movements of other vehicles, to show us unique vistas, ruins, and arches with no one else around to dilute the silence and beauty of our visit. Larry shared the history, traditions, and religion of his people in the context of this beautiful place. The Hogan visit was an outstanding experience, giving us genuine insight and education about Navajo life. When the beautiful, sunny morning turned to wind Ann’s dust, Larry exchanged our open air vehicle for an enclosed, comfortable SUV for the afternoon. What an amazing guide!

Terrific tour with a terrific guide Larry Team. Larry shared many interesting things with us about his culture and Monument Valley, even singing a song for us at the “Big Hogan” arch site. His storytelling, tour pacing and overall approach made for a really enjoyable and educational tour. We would highly recommend both MV Tribal Tours and Larry Team. Also recommend the extended backcountry tour if you have the time. It’s a nicer pace and Larry had no problem filling the time!

One tip for tourists to consider - Monument Valley can get dusty and windy. We were in a typical passenger van and happy for it. Some companies operate open-air tour vans. That looks great, and I’m sure they are nice for viewing and photography, but they also leave you exposed to the wind and dust. We had plenty of opportunities to get out of the van and explore on foot, especially because we did the extended backcountry tour.

Our 3-hour tour was amazing. Sandrea made the trip more interesting by providing Navaho information and beliefs, even singing a native song for us. The weather was perfect; we were driven to many locations where we stopped to walk a bit and take photos. The size and colors of the mesas and buttes are spectacular and photos don’t do Monument Valley the justice it deserves.
