I took this trip as I wanted to see both attractions but didn't trust my knee injury enough to do them on my own. I'd done the company's Yosemite trip on a prior visit so was already familiar with the company.

Roman, our engaging and well versed guide, picked everyone up in good time and we were soon heading across the Golden Gate Bridge on a beautiful sunny morning.

First stop was Muir Woods. It was early enough to be blissfully and wonderfully quiet, allowing time to explore the grandeur of the trees. I could hear birds chirping, as well as the faint overhead whoosh of a passing jet, that's how blissfully silent it was.

Our next stop was a beautiful vineyard over the county line in Napa, where we sampled three lovely wines and learned about the harvest (it had just happened, so no grapes to see) and production of wine. The setting was picture perfect.

Then we were off to Sonoma, and a stop at Sonoma Square for a lunch break. Meals were at our option, so I wandered over to the Sausage Emporium for a quick bite, then had a look at the historic mission and its surroundings.

Two more wineries awaited after lunch, and each had a flight if three wines to sample. Optional extra tastings we're available if so desired.

We began our journey back to the city as the weather started changing (rain was forecast for that evening). Roman stopped at a very local produce stand, where we could buy some local goodies (the plums were tasty and fresh).

On the final approach into the city, Roman room us up to the Marin Headlands, where breathtaking (if windy!) and stunning, up close views of the Golden Gate were on display.

All in all, a good day out with a very cool guide that kept us entertained.

Some other notes:

The road to Muir Woods is twisty, if you're prone to motion sickness, dose up accordingly (my tour group was fine, but others may not be).

There's a $15 entry fee to Muir Woods.

Lunch at Sonoma Square is at your own expense, but there's a wide variety of eateries to choose from, offering good good at all price points.

If you're short on time, this is a good introduction to the wine country. Hopefully, you'll want to return some day soon!

Terrific, fun and laid-back experience for any winery-tour initiate. Roman was our guide; he drove, he narrated, he was pretty much a one-man show! Schedule started off with prompt pickup in DTSF, a "complimentary" tour of the city as we meandered downtown picking up other guests. We then crossed the GG Bridge over to John Muir Woods, which was absolutely beautiful and well worth the $15 admission price. Following that was a quick jaunt into Napa for a tasting and photo ops @ Kieu Hoang Winery. We then made it over to Sonoma for lunch and two other wineries. Finished off the day with photo ops of the GG bridge on the north end, which was really nice with to no crowds! From start to finish took about 9 hours. Highly recommend eating a large breakfast or bring snacks with you as you can spend quite some time trekking around before lunch. Also, your experience may differ with the availability of wineries but nonetheless will be a great time! Taking off one star because of the heavy push to tip our guide which became uncomfortable at times. To his credit, though, Roman was an excellent guide, stuck to the itinerary to the T and was jovial with all the guests, he definitely made the experience fun and lighthearted. Highly recommend Extranomical Tours to pop your winery tour cherry (or rather, grape)!

Muir woods was beautiful...I didn't realize we had to pay an additional entrance fee to the park in addition to what we paid on trip advisor, and only saw that in the fine print after. We went to 3 wineries and got to try 3 wines at each, plus you could purchase more if you wanted to. I would have liked to learn more about each wine, and more about wine making, but it was more of a relaxed hangout trip (so maybe pick a different tour if you really want to learn more about wine). I loved getting to meet people from all over the world, and would recommend this if you're a solo traveller. If you're from the area, for this price you could just visit the wineries yourself and take an uber home.

One of the great rewards for taking a tour is meeting new friends! We will work on making our description more clear regarding the Muir Woods fee. We do not include it since many of our guests have annual passes or senior discounts and don't want the fee included in the tour price. Take good care.

We are so happy we did this tour however with multiple hotel pick-ups we were rushed at Muir Woods (only an hour) and during the winery stops (didn't have time to walk through the vineyards at Ru Vango which was the only true vineyard we went to and that we LOVED; didn't have time for the "choice" tasting at our 2nd stop Muscardini which was a boutique winery that was for tasting and buying only; and the third stop Mayo Family Winery which required standing too long to listen about the bottling process and the "picnic" area was not scenic and rather "industrial"). We chose to do lunch on our own at Sonoma Plaza (there was no "breakfast stop" unless you count the option to get coffee at Muir Woods after you paid $15/person entrance fee and the hour we had there to explore). There were plenty of restaurant choices and time to browse in a few stores. We ate at "The Girl and the Fig" and did as the driver suggested to let them know we were on a tour so we were quickly seated and received our food/bill in a timely manner. This was a full day (12 hours from pick up to drop off) so time-wise we got our money's worth just didn't spend the amount of time at the places we expected. Rated this tour 3 out of 5 because of the shortened time as noted above and the winery choices. Our tour guide provided a lot of information about the areas we traveled through. I felt overall it was a good value for our first time to San Francisco.

Thanks so much for your comprehensive review. Yes, it is a full day to take in Muir Woods AND California's wine country in a single day but well worth it for people visiting San Francisco for a short time. The Girl and the Fig was a great choice...hope others follow your lead. All the best.

Dustin is a comical tour guide, he made this tour very interesting and fun. Pickup was fast and easy, start at Muir Woods and it was beautiful and full of life; the cafe there had an amazing cheese bagel, earl grey tea, and homemade brownie. Ru Vango vineyard in Napa was the next destination and the overall experience was great, had a taste of 3 reds and they tasted fruitful and full of spice; they had a nice little lounge area in front of the vineyard and in the back. After, we stopped for lunch in Sonoma and decided to go to El Dorado and I fell in love with the oysters and the mixed green salad with the vinaigrette; I would highly recommend coming here for lunch. After lunch, we headed to Muscardini Cellular in Kenwood and it was a very chill vineyard; we sat in the backyard and had wine tasters. Finally, our last stop was at Mayo Family Winery, and our host Joe was very knowledgeable and comedic about the business; they had a great Riesling that I ended up buying 2 bottles of. Dustin took us to grab photos at the Golden Gate Bridge on the way home

A lot of fun! Tour guide Kimmy was knowledgeable and fun. Muir Woods never fails to impress and it was a beautiful (a bit foggy) morning to enjoy the coastal redwoods. The wine tastings were all enjoyable- small vineyards so special to try what you won’t see in the grocery store. The add on lunch was quite good and I’d recommend since the restaurants in the area are often crowded and I was worried we’d be pressed for time.

First time doing wine tasting and our group had an amazing time!! Roman was our tour guide/bus driver and definitely made the experience 100% better. Chose this tour so we could also visit the Muir Woods (2 birds 1 stone), would highly recommend anyone interested in nature and wine to book this. Bus was almost filled up and masks eventually came off at times when people were at their respective seats. My group are all vaccinated though and I believe (hope) many of the others were too.

Kimmy, our guide and driver, was simply great: very friendly, funny, ready to help and accomodate although on a tight schedule. The Woods were amazing and we were lucky enough to finde them almost empty of people (on a Tuesday, early in the morning - also had extra luck to get there in a small group with a van instead of a bus). The wineries were really fine, especially the last one was great and we had some special deals coming there with the tour.

I booked also the extra lunch, which was very fine and served by friendly hosts - the Sonoma Laza where we ate had a lot of different options though, and you will get enough wine anyway, so it is probably not a must do.

We were mostly in Sonoma County, which I appreciated a lot and am perfectly happy with - the visit in Napa Valley was rather brief, that is why, if you really want to get a lot of *Napa* Valley, this might not be the most fitting tour for you. Anyway, I would recommend it anytime! Thank you for a great day, Kimmy!

Thanks for your review! We've passed your kind words on to Kimmy. There are three wineries included in the tour, usually one in Napa and two in Sonoma, mainly because Sonoma is a bit closer when its time to return to San Francisco. We are always looking for ways to make the tour better, so we appreciate your feedback.

We enjoyed Roman, a very knowledgeable and amusing tour guide. However, there were a couple of incidents that I am highlighting.

It rained during our visit to Muir Woods. Roman stated several times to us on the tour that he would leave the park by 10:20am sharp. However, he prioritized a run in the woods and got back to the tour bus at 10:25am letting all of us sit in the cold rainy weather. Most of us got to the bus 10-15 minutes early, trying to get back on a warm, open bus but unfortunately sat in the unfavorable elements awaiting our tour guide to finish his run, as Roman locked up the bus.

Roman stopped at a produce stand on the way back. He came back on the bus first with a large bag of produce / grocery items. We did not favor this stop as it seemed that he stopped because of his needs. Those that were traveling, i.e. staying in hotels, etc. would not need produce for their hotel stay or trip back home. It was an odd stop for a Muir Woods and wine tour.

Roman repeatedly emphasized tipping . He suggested a couple of times to tip $20, as well as make other analogies of a tipping percentage like you would if you enjoyed a good meal at a restaurant. I feel many gave him generous tips because Roman brought up the topic many times and folks may have felt shamed to tip him.

He did make another off-agenda stop of the Golden Gate Bridge - that was fun.

A lot packed into one day- good sampling if you will, but each stop felt VERY rushed which took a lot of the fun out of it especially when others on the tour were 5-10 min late each stop which added up and made for a rushed experience. There was not a lot of time at each stop (<1 hour at Muir woods including standing in line for tickets), winery (40 min max) at each one, < 1 hour at Sonoma for lunch and a LOT of time on the bus.
Our tour guide, Don, was very informative and great and if not for him, would have rated this tour 2 or 3 stars maybe.
