A good experience overall
Dec. 2019
The administration of the trip was well organized. The bus was comfortable and even had a toilet on board. Our guide Z was knowledgable, professional and courteous. There were sufficient stops and a variety of choices for food. The attractions in Philadephia such as the Liberty Bell and the Independence Hall were interesting. It was great to see the late President Nelson Mandela's photo in Independence Hall. The trip to Amish county was a disappointment. You visit the Amish market and go on a buggy ride. We did not get a true understanding of Amish life and nor did we interact with the Amish community. Overall it was a good experience.

We enjoyed this day excursion very much. It was helped by having an excelled guide Brian. He was knowledgeable and well organised and handled the different languages needed on this excursion excellently, grouping the different groups on the bus and speaking with them personally. The trip was interesting. loved the Amish experience, a busy day, well worth it! Thank you Brian.

Not the greatest
Felt like the tour was rushed. Didn't really see much in Philadelphia - there were lots of sights pointed out but we didn't see them. The Amish visit was not at all what I expected - we went to one house where they tried to sell things. There was no information on anything Amish.

Packs a lot on, but a few problems
Some of the details are lacking in this tour description, so let me try to fill in some gaps:

This is a long day - departing at 7am and returning about 12-13hours later. The check in process is basically non existent, and then they call people out by the language spoken so that they can sit together on the bus for ease of interpreting. Whilst this makes more sense as the day goes on, it does seem strange and a bit disorganised at the start.

Get past this chaotic start though and the tour starts properly. It’s a two hour drive to Philadelphia, where you first visit the Liberty Bell (although you enter the museum it’s a photo op only, but the guide gives you the history on the bus). Then a 20 minute tour of Congress Hall (inside) and seeing Independence Hall from the outside only. Finally you get a break - by this time it is about 11am and you have done a bit of walking, so you’ll want to have had a good breakfast or brought snacks. Anyway, here you can try the Philly Cheese Steak or a range of other menu items.

Then onto the Betty Ross house - again just a quick stop for a photo. Final stop in Philadelphia is the Rocky Steps with plenty of time to go up and back.

Then a one hour drive to Lancaster and the buggy ride. This is something a bit unique. Yes the children will try to sell you cookies or homemade lemonade - but at $2 it’s not a big ask, and the products are actually quite good!

You then go to the Amish Village which really is a shopping area, but with lots of arts and crafts, and different food options. It is very commercialised and probably the most disappointing part of the day but If nothing else, the scenery here is nice.

Finally it’s a three hour trip back to New York. All in all, I thought the sites visited were good and I enjoyed the look at “old” and “new” Philadelphia as well as a taste of Amish life. For me there was just the right amount of time at each stop to get a feel for it, but don’t expect to do anything in great detail. If you want a thorough look at Philadelphia or Amish country, this probably isn’t for you.

Finally I was disappointed by the guide and staff overall - I felt commentary was lacking and sometimes unclear. Compared to other tours I’ve taken we seemed to just be going through the motions, rather than hearing any great insight or passion for what we were seeing and doing. The bus was also pulled over by the police on the way to Philadelphia and the driver argued with the officer which was pretty unprofessional with a bus load of tourists on board!

1 day Bus Trip to Philadelphia from NYC
May 2019 • Couples
We had a great day, Ben our guide (George the driver ) was great, there was also other guides for different languages. So much History that Ben told us. We had a coffee/ brunch break and later free time at Lancaster for shopping and food if required. We also saw the George Washington statue and the Sylvester Stallone one & ran up the steps from the movie. Back to the spot we met by 8pm dependent on traffic. A horse & carriage ride with Chris an Amish man who was happy to answer any questions we had. Thank you.

Feb. 2019 • Couples
I mainly gave the 4 stars towards visiting the Amish. That to me was the highlight. The people were very nice and their souvenirs in the village were high quality. Our tour guide was nice but was very quietly spoken which I found frustrating because I could hardly hear what she was saying,.,and no I am not deaf. Philadelphia was interesting, learnt quite a bit about the history.

Oct. 2018 • Couples
this tour was misleading to say the least we were under the impression that you would see a real working village and see the amish lifestyle the only lifestyle we saw was on the buggy ride we were taken to a home and the children only came to get money off you for biscuits and they were quite rude, we didn't even get out of the buggy
The village was actually a shopping village and not where these people live the visit to independent hall was just an invasion of privacy where the security measures in place is headed by very rude staff who demand you to tip everything out of your bags and pockets even though they know there is nothing in there just very disappointing

WARNING and HEADS UP. If you hope to VISIT Independence Hall, you will be sorely disappointed. We saw the exterior of Independence Hall, but only actually visited Congress Hall. We did NOT visit the room where the Founders and Framers debated and voted on the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. We were so excited to take this tour from NYC to Philadelphia and we SO sad when we arrived in Philadelphia only to learn that we would miss Independence Hall. Guide told us it was closed for some reason, but that was untrue. I called National Park Service there who told me they only close on Christmas Day. Other guides told us that these tours never see Independence Hall which requires timed tickets. I would not have spent almost $300 for two tour tickets if I had known we would not see Independence Hall. We did see Ben Franklin's grave, the Liberty Bell, Elfreth's Alley, and Betsy Ross house. Rocky steps and statue were a silly stop and waste of time, IMO. We enjoyed the short buggy ride and lunch in Amish country, but all in all, the fact that our trip did not include Independence Hall ruined it for me.
