Lower East Side Food and Culture Tour
US$69.00
Overview

Take a deep dive into the culinary culture of Manhattan's Lower East Side during this guided food tour with a small group. Follow your guide to hidden gems that you probably wouldn't find on you own for tastes of everything from knishes to Dutch stroopwafels. Along the way, your guide will shed light on the neighborhood's rich, varied food culture, which helps you understand NYC as a whole.

What to Expect

Meet your guide and small group at City Hall Park. From there, you'll embark on a walking tour covering the Lower East Side's culinary culture and food scene, with your guide expounding on the neighborhood’s rich immigrant roots.

Begin with a stroopwafel (Dutch syrup waffle), while learning about the island of Manhattan's Dutch heritage. Move on to knishes from a Jewish bakery and fresh mozzarella in Little Italy. At Essex Market, explore the food hall with everything from pancakes to tacos, set near a historic African burial ground.

Stop by the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, which educates visitors on what daily life was like more than 100 years ago.

The day's last stop is Chinatown, where you'll taste soup dumplings before parting with your group at Grand and Chrystie Streets.

No tour of the museum, but it's a good idea to add it to your day & spend a whole day in this part of town....this tour is still very good without the museum, though.

Agree with p23brown, but you could go to the German restaurant on your own afterwards & get pretzels & brats for dinner anyway, not to mention it's a low-price meal for NYC and a good one! See my other reviews for the name... More
