No supervisor. Someone showed up to scan around 7:10. Called the company customer service but they weren’t able to process a refund. Would not recommend. - reneep1580 contributionsBuyer BEWAREPlease, save your money and book someplace else! This tour caused nothing but grief from the first time I attempted to board a bus to the last! In NYC, I attempted to board the bus at stop #14 on 8th Ave only to be told that this particular stop wasn’t being used because it “was too busy”. I was then informed to walk to stop #2 near Margaritaville. I specifically chose TopView because they had two stops near my hotel and, being a single female, I felt better having stops to close by. Once I board the bus I noticed that there was no live information but all taped which would have been OK if it wasn’t 1-2 stops behind! The bus made it’s way through the stops without incident until just after stop #13 near the Port Authority on 42nd where, much surprise to all the riders, we were informed to leave the bus as this was the end of the tour! WHAT? Everything I read said that this was a loop - not a dead end tour! We were left to walk to the next stop to catch another bus, however, the next stop is #14 were I was told an hour or so earlier that this particular stop wasn’t being used because it was too busy. Fast forward to later in the day when I jumped on the Uptown tour from stop #15. The hawkers working the area had us board the bus, even with people up top saying there were no more seats. So doing as I was asked, I climbed the very narrow stairs to the top deck only to find NO SEATS! On the way down the very narrow stairs, the backs of both my legs scrapped the steps to the point where they were bleeding (word of advice, wear long pants and this shouldn’t be a problem). I got off the bus and walked to stop #23 where there sat an empty bus. YAY! Only problem, there was no recorded narration - just irritating music, until stop #16 (Dakota Building) where the narration started by saying “This is the Times Square stop….” For every stop thereafter! To add insult to injury, it says that one must reserve a seat for the night time tour - only to find that the people working the stop were letting anyone on. So, by the time it got to the group at the end who had reserved a seat, there were no seats left! I still have today to use the bus as a means of transportation…..but I’ll just say “thanks, but no thanks” and cut my losses!Written September 14, 2024
- culturalperspectives0 contributionsAppalling level of customer care and serviceAVOID this company at all costs. I had the misfortune of taking one of their recent night tours. Unfortunately our bus crashed due to driver error and we were stuck on the Brooklyn Bridge for over an hour and a half. It could have been far worse and we’re talking injuries or even worse. It was traumatic. I immediately wrote to complain about what I saw was a complete lack of any company procedures or protocols to deal with such incidents. After a series of ineffectual e-mail correspondence, TopView eventually acknowledged that it had been a “nightmare experience” and I was offered a miserly $45 refund on three tickets that had originally cost me $315, plus subsequently, a complimentary free tour - as if I was going to put my faith in their business ever again! And, as I wasn’t planning to return to New York any time soon, this was a completely pointless offer that would cost them nothing anyway. When I questioned the derisory amount of the refund, I was told that they were limited by their own terms and conditions. Seriously? When I see companies proudly quoting their ‘terms and conditions’, they might just as well admit “yes, you’re right, we’re in the wrong, we should do more, but we’ve covered ourselves in the small print, so tough”. That a third of all Trip Advisor reviews rate their experience with TopView as ‘terrible” speaks volumes for customer satisfaction and customer care. As someone who has worked in the cultural tourism sector for over 30 years I’m guilty here of not doing my own research beforehand. So many negative and highly critical reviews are a clear ‘red flag’ and I should have taken my business elsewhere. And TopView, please don't bother replying to this with the standard line “Your feedback is valuable in helping us improve our services”. Be prepared to pay more than the quoted price if you go on this tour!!
The bus tour we had originally booked was cancelled so we ended up booking a bus tour with TopLine through one of their many agents on the street, who hassle you incessantly about their tours. He said he'd do us a 'discount' and would chage us $55 per adult and $49 per child. This should have come to $208. We paid by card and once we'd paid he quickly removed the payment slip, telling me to download the app for them so he could upload our tickets via a QR code, which he did. I didn't actually see the card receipt.
We did the bus tour that day, which was fine. Buses turned up on time although we had to miss one bus as it was so full and wait for another. Lot of music on the audio, but it was generally ok.
When I checked my bank statement that night we had been charged $244 in total. which was not agreed. When I queried it with Topline via email they claim this extra cost is due to taxes and fees, none of which were mentioned by the agent.

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.
Me and my partner were in NYC for around 6 hours during a layover. We decided to book a bus so we could see as much of the city as possible before we had to go back to the airport. We payed $112 for two downtown hop-on-hop-off tickets at TopView. We took the subway from the airport to Grand Central and immediately outside was a man selling tickets for TopView, who pointed us in the direction to get on the bus. We looked up the but route and decide to wait at the 5th Ave spot to be picked up. A TopView bus drove past (with visible space on the top for more passengers) however it didn’t stop. After having waited 20 minutes for it, we decided to call TopView and told them that the bus failed to pick us up. After a long time on hold (I imagine they receive many complaint calls for their terrible service) The representative told us she doesn’t know why it didn’t stop but there is another bus passing the area in 13 minutes and to wait for that one. We waited for 25 minutes and no bus came by. After wasting nearly an hour just standing and waiting, we decided we would walk around to try and see more and find another place to wait for a bus in the meantime. Another bus passed the stop and didn’t stop to let people off or pick us up. We kept walking and saw another TopView bus displaying out of service on the front. We saw no other busses that day. We contacted customer service and told them we weren’t able to use ANY service we payed for. We weren’t able to get on any bus that day. They refused to give us our money back which is absolutely ridiculous considering we were physically unable to get on any bus we saw and had no choice to walk the city and not be able to see as much as we wanted to. DO NOT use this service especially if you are under time constraints as it’s A LOT of waiting around. You can tell by their terms & conditions they had to cover their backs very well for this terrible service.

I bought tickets online before my trip and when walking to the bus there were 8 to 10 very aggressive people with top view red jackets on rushing you and when I told them I had tickets already one said that I had already messed up and I should have waited on bought from him. Others shove maps in your face and give dirty looks and comments when you say you have tickets. I watched them do this to multiple people and say very rude angry things to those folks. Tour itself was terrible. The drivers were rude and angry. I heard and saw them tell one lady that if her port for earbuds wasn't working to move and that was common sense and why did she think he could fix it. No stops announced by number so map is useless. The audio did say what was near when it was played. It was not always played, sometimes just music. I have taken tours all over the U.S. and several other countries and this was the worst ever. I gave it a 1 because there wasn't a zero to chose. Don't waste your money on top view.

Absolutely the worst experience we had while in NYC. I wish we had checked their Better Busniness Bureau rating before booking!
The sales guy was very convincing and we ended up taking a 48 hour Step On - Step Off tour package and the cruise option as well. We were told the buses ran every 15 minutes during the peak times. The first bus we tried to take was full and the driver just drove away from the stop. Checked the App and the next bus was 30 minutes ETA. Actually was 10 - 15 minutes past that. When we finally caught a bus the upper deck was full and the lower seating area was packed. We instantly noticed there was no A/C on the bus and the windows didn't open. All of the maps and brouchures were being used by the other riders as fans. When the driver stopped to try to pry open a window we bailed out riding less than 1 stop. The driver, who was obviously overheated as well encouraged us to complain! Of course they refused a refund and so we are out over $195 to ride 3 city blocks in a mobile sweat lodge.
There are many other options and I would recomend any other company other than Top View.
If you see a 5 Star Review its more than likely one of their many employees during their sales down time. BBB grade is an F and 1 Star

TERRIBLE! Told the daily runs were till 6pm but at 5:30pm the entire bus was told to get off, the daily run was over. They forced a full bus of people off 30 min before the stated time at the last stop (#16) then left empty without any warning or explanation. During the day, they state every 15 min a bus passes each stop but it is pointless as the busses that do show up between 15-45 min are often filled and don't have room for anyone and refuse to let anyone on. $400 for a 48 hour pass for 3 of us, and basically it cost us $100 a ride and one of those stopped running. We ended up walking from lower to upper Manhattan because the busses were unreliable, filled, or didn't run till 6pm. Not to mention everyone in my group has matching leg burns from the stairs as the grit sticks out pretty far and terribly scratched our legs, burning and walking with a brush burn, great ending to our experience.

Pretty shambolically organised. You’ll wait for a bus longer than you’ll spend sightseeing. On day one we waited over 45 minutes at a bus stop for a bus. On day two we waited another 45 minutes - one turned up but was full leaving about 30 passengers waiting. The next turned up and we managed to squeeze on but about 12 people in the queue behind us were left behind again. Later in the day we tried to catch a bus back but were refused as two of us had a screenshot of the QR code as they didn’t have internet when they bought the ticket - the seller said this would be ok and was fine for the whole of day 1.
Save your money and either use a more reputable company, the much more efficient and cheaper local buses or the subway and you’ll have less hassle, see more and less frustration waiting for buses that don’t come.

Never left on-time, running late, live map app not accurate, audio recording was either to slow or to fast depending on the timing of the route. When I called to express concern I was told only 2 people worked on the phones jn customer service and I had to email them.
When I emailed I was met with “sorry it’s our policy not to give any refund but we will extend your pass”. If you want a bus tour, take the Big Bus company, they have way more buses, were always pulling in and out of stops and seemed to have it together. It was the biggest waste of $330 (for a group of four).

The hop off hop on tour was the best way to see the city sites without having to worry about driving or getting lost! It’s best to buy the tickets online for a discount.
We started our tour later in the afternoon and didn’t realize that our bus’s route was ending at the next stop which resulted in us waiting about an hour for a bus that was going on the route we wanted to take next (uptown). Other than that, there were buses that arrived around every 20 minutes at each stop.
Download the app and you can even track how long it will be until the next bus!
Headphones were available for free on the buses so you could plug in and listen to the New York themed music and facts about the sites. Each headphone Jack had its own volume setting so you could turn it up or down to your liking. This was much nicer than previous tours where there was either a recorded tour playing on a loud speaker or a live tour guide. With the headphones, you could chose if you wanted to listen or just enjoy the ride.

We had one day in NYC after a cruise. Purchased tickets on my phone and downloaded the app. We waited at the stop closest to the cruise port. We waited for two hours for a bus. A bus finally drove by and reluctantly picked us up, telling us this is a not a usable stop any more. Nowhere on their map was this mentioned. The driver was frustrated himself and complaining about the company. another lady waiting with us was telling us about her horrible experience after two days of being in the city and trying to use these buses. There is no refund so once you pay you are stuck. We were then dropped off at the starting point (Which is not stop 1) to wait in another long line. We waisted so much time waiting for buses. They were not coming every 15- 20 minutes like stated. When we did get off then the top was full where we needed to sit below or wait for another bus. The workers and drivers were all very rude and frustrated themselves. One driver was literally yelling at customers about sitting together when there were empty seats (this was down below) This was three large men and the bus driver threatened to throw them off if they didn't share the same seat. It was very strange. After only getting off and on twice we decided the bus was a total waste of time and money. We then used the subway the rest of the day.

The worst hop on hop off we’ve ever used. The first couple of stops took over 40 minutes because we were apparently waiting for the supervisor to say we could go. The upstairs Perspex cover was so bad the sun shining on it obscured the view. We weren’t even dropped off where we got on, so technically speaking didn’t have the full tour we paid for! The commentary was prerecorded and next to useless. We’re on a very short trip with a tight schedule and this was the biggest waste of time and money. If you think it’s a good idea far a sit and commentary don’t bother. If there’s a group of you it would be cheaper, and more informative, to find a helpful taxi driver!
