Visit Oak Alley Plantation, one of the South’s most famous and photographed plantations, on a tour down the River Road. And, do it without renting a car. Pass under a canopy of giant oak trees to tour the antebellum mansion and gardens with a costumed guide. Explore the plantation’s elegant yet somber history as you learn about the lives of former inhabitants, including slaves.
What to Expect
Depart New Orleans from a convenient French Quarter pickup point and ride in a comfortable air-conditioned coach around Lake Pontchartrain and along the Mississippi down River Road. As the bustle of city life fades away, experience the peace and quiet of Louisiana swamp country. Reach the plantation by driving through the "Oak Alley" of giant trees that are more than 250 years old.

Tour the perfectly restored rooms of the 1839 Greek Revival mansion, which you may recognize from movies like Interview with a Vampire and Primary Colors. A costumed guide shares Oak Alley’s fascinating history, including stories of Creole plantation life before the Civil War. Spend some free time exploring the grounds, including an exhibit about the slaves who built the plantation and lived there.
