Overview
With alligators, hidden villages, and snakes, Louisiana’s swamps can be scary to explore on your own. On this tour, your guide will keep you safe—and fill you in on Cajun history—while you explore the swampy territories. Visit areas of Honey Island Swamp you can only reach by boat, and learn about the area’s wildlife from your guide. Plus, round-trip transport from New Orleans makes for a no-hassle adventure.

    Stop: 2 hours
Your guide welcomes you aboard a custom-made 22-passenger flat-bottom boat. The smaller sized, quiet boat can fit through narrow passages in the swamp foliage so that you see more and get closer to wildlife. It’s the ideal way to take in the lush environment of Cajun country. As your guide explains the history of Louisiana’s wetlands and swamp ecosystem, be on the lookout for resident wildlife including alligators, raccoons, owls, wild boar, nutria, snakes, turtles, black bears, bald eagles and many other bird species. Get a close look at some wild gators as your guide shares facts about the toothy beasts, who can weigh up to 1,000 pounds (453 kg). Their ancestors once roamed the earth with the dinosaurs and scientists estimate that they have existed for more than 150 million years. Glide safely through the fertile swamplands, learning about Cajun culture and how local people have utilized the swamp for food, homes, and medicine from your guide. You even see an authentic Cajun village that is only accessible by boat. Gain an understanding of why the wetlands are slowly disappearing and about the efforts being made to preserve Louisiana's natural treasures. After a fascinating 2-hour boat tour on Honey Island Swamp, your guide returns you to shore. You can either take the coach back to your New Orleans hotel or make your own way to your next destination, depending on the option you have chosen when booking.

Not covid friendly. Besides the temp check and the driver suggesting masks nothing else was done. If this was not sound covid I would give 5 stars. The lady we booked with told us this was 50% capacity but it was FULL. The guide/driver had impressive knowledge of the area

We are very sorry to hear that you weren't able to join us on tour. It looks like we originally had you booked for the 8AM pick up, but according to our notes, it looks like you decided to reschedule to the 1:15 PM pick up instead. We do ask our guests to be at their location for the beginning of the pickup window to ensure that our buses and tours stay on track as much as possible. The shuttle leaves each pickup location promptly after 5 minutes if the guests are not there. We apologize for any miscommunication and would like to offer you a gift certificate that is good for up to a year. Please call our office at (504) 834-1770 if you would like to have one mailed to you.

Enjoyable trip, boat wasn't overcrowded which was important to us during the pandemic. Boat operator was very knowledgeable about the swamp. Bus driver to swamp at times seemed to be making up stuff but was pleasant and jovial nonetheless.
