Highlights
  • Express tour outside the gates of the famous St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans
  • See the legendary tomb of voodoo priestess Marie Laveau
  • This short tour is a great option for visitors with limited time
What to Expect
Connect with your guide in the French Quarter and take a short walk to St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, the oldest and most legendary of New Orleans’ “Cities of the Dead.” Learn about the history of burial in New Orleans, including the city’s distinctive above-ground methods that are necessary when below sea level. Walk up to the cemetery gates with your guide and see the elaborate burial vaults you may recognize from films like Easy Rider. Because of archdiocese regulations, visitors cannot enter the cemetery at this time, but you'll still see the tombs of prominent Louisiana families and hear the legends that swirl around the alleged final resting place of voodoo queen Marie Laveau. The tour ends at Basin Street Station.

The info we had was that the cemetery was closed to the public without a tour guide. We never got an acknowledgement email like we have with every other tour. An hour before we got a 3 part text message all about the tour policies and procedures. Our reply text asking

We are sorry you had an issue with your tours, while here in New Orleans. Our meeting place has been the same location for 7 years. Unfortunately, the previous business, did not make it through COVID, & the space is for rent. I sent you a text, in reply to yours, due to the fact that you had booked a Cemetery tour (ours) & a Garden District tour (not ours). I contacted you to let you know to check further into it, because you booked with a different tour operator, for that particular tour. Viator/TripAdvisor have an email address set up for the guests who book through them, which your confirmation went to, automatically, in the wee hours of the morning on tour day. It is disclosed in the description & confirmation that the cemetery is closed, but we always reiterate, at tour time, with the option to participate or a full refund, in case you missed it. Your refund was processed, upon your request. Thank you for your review.

The tour was okay. We didn’t get to go inside the cemetery and that sucked but what made this tour awful was, while we were getting info on the cemetery, a guy walked up to the group and started screaming at us and the tour guide. He kept getting closer and closer to the group

We apologize for the jingle bells incident, although we have no control over the actions of others. Unfortunately, the Archdiocese has closed the cemetery, due to the pandemic. It is in the description, when you book your tour. A lot of people are missing this fact, so your guide reiterated, before the tour. We want everyone to fully understand they may take the modified tour or receive a full refund. We appreciate your support during this pandemic and hope to see you in the future, when the cemetery reopens. Thank you for your review.

Was not told till we arrived that the tour was a walk around the out side on the sidewalk, looking at a 10ft wall, But the sign on the gate said no entrance without a tour guide. Thought that was what this person was, I can walk on the sidewalk by myself and look at a wall,
