Make your own way to the San Antonio Zoo to explore the diverse exhibits that feature animals from around the world.
In the Africa Live section, look through underwater viewing windows to watch hippos, crocodiles, and African cichlid fish in the water. Then head over to the African Plains to see Grevy's zebra, crowned cranes, ostriches, Marabou storks, topi antelopes, and more.
Get a feel for the rain forest at The Amazonia exhibit, which includes jaguar and ocelot, among other large and small cats, plus a number of different monkeys, such as cotton-topped tamarins, capuchins, marmosets, and white-faced saki monkeys.
The lush Cranes Of The World display is located on the zoo's existing waterway, providing visitors with the chance to experience the cranes' habitat. Other birds gather in the Hixon Bird House, including species from the American southwest (roadrunner, burrowing owl); the jungles of Asia (lesser green broadbill, fairy bluebird); South American rain forest (quetzal, tinamou, sun bittern); and the African bush (Taveta golden weaver, Egyptian plover, jacana).
Find out more about the some of the zoo's most popular animals during daily presentations (check the schedule for timing).
At the Zootennial Carousel, kids can catch a ride on native Texas animals such as a whooping crane, white-tailed deer, Texas horned lizard, and the jackalope, along with other creatures. The zoo train offers rides around the premises (additional expense), and refreshments are available for purchase at the cafe.
