Excellent Tour of Sitka and Area
Sep. 2021
My adult daughter (never been to Alaska) and I wanted a quick tour of Sitka due to having to catching a flight. We made the right choice with Sitka Wildlife Tours!

This tour was excellent as was the guide and our interactions with owners. The van was clean and comfortable. It was a great tour giving the history of Sitka, visiting the main attractions, and a highly informative walk in the forest to see the salmon run.

Both my daughter and I would highly recommend Sitka Wildlife tours and if you are on a tight schedule, the Sitka Scenic Tour.

We had been looking forward to this tour for a long time & unfortunately have had to cancel as the cruise line is no longer visiting due to the virus! Contacted Sitka sightseeing & was refunded in full within minutes, great service & a lot faster than anyone else. Hope to visit in the future, best of luck to them at this difficult time.

Bad Tour Company!
Jun. 2019
I booked and paid for this tour for two people on Viator. We were on a cruise and this was our port stop. I got the date wrong and the tour company said they usually catch that, but the resold our seats. They would NOT give us a partial refund so we had to pay again for the Fortress of the Bear. I thought this was really unfair, that they got to keep our money and resold the tickets.

I am surprised that you would blame us for you booking the wrong day. On the day you were scheduled for we looked everywhere for you and lost out on selling the two seats as you were a no show! The next day you show up out of the blue after we sold out and now blame us. We wish you would called to let us know about the mistake. We are sorry you booked the wrong day . I pray the rest of your cruise stops where booked properly.

Bears are awesome
Aug. 2019
My wife and I really enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Lindsay, was phenomenal. She provided lots of great history about Sitka and the local wildlife. We weren't really crazy about the first part of this tour that stopped at the totem poles, since that is easy to do on your own. But the drive out to the see the bears was beyond worth it. The drive itself is beautiful, and we stopped along the road to admire the scenery. Lindsay gave us a ton of great information about everything we saw along the way -- all of it was fascinating. Once at the Fortress of the Bears, we had about 25 minutes to see the bears and listen to a presentation about their origin. This amount of time felt about right, given the facility houses 9 or 10 bears.

"welcome to Sitka"..... and we really were!
Jul. 2019 • Family
We are the luckiest family to have chosen this tour with Becky. Her love of her town and state showed in everything she showed us and talked to us about - always beginning with "Welcome to Sitka" as she revealed something else! The Fortress of the Bear is a rescue organization that is so wonderful and gives you an up close look at several types of bears. The Totem Park is also rainforest and we all loved what we saw and learned underneath the canopy, on the beach and about the totems. We are a family of 8 - aged 13 to 71 - and the fact that my granddaughter remembered many of the facts Becky told us is a testament to how wonderful and engaging she is. LOVED LOVED LOVED IT

Good tour especially Bears
May 2019 • Family
Our tour guide, Lindsay, was very
Friendly and gave us great tour of Sitka highlights as well as the tour to the Sitka National Historic Park and the Fortress of the Bears. We were disappointed not to spend more time viewing all the totem poles in the park, but really enjoyed seeing the black and brown bears at the bear rescue/ sanctuary. We could have taken public transportation to these spots but tour was convenient and informative.

Hello Marguerite, Thank you so much for your review! Reviews help allot of people to decide what to do in Sitka while they are on their cruise. We are glad you enjoyed your tour with Lindsay! We normally give you the option to stay in the park to enjoy the rest of the park or come back to town with us.It's a 10 minute walk back to the shuttle you take to your cruise ship.Sitka is so beautiful and small that would have been the way to do it to stay in the park longer. We hope you come back to Sitka some day!

Personalized tour of Sitka
May 2019 • Friends
We can highly recommend this private company. We took a cruise to Alaska, got off the ship in Sitka, and looked over the private tour offerings. The owners of this company were friendly, personable, and made things work just for us. The price was more than reasonable. We were a group of 6, and 2 more people joined us in the van. Small, easy group. Our tour guide, Deanna, is a Sitka native and was just delightful. We couldn't have been happier.

Small Group and Excellent Local Tour Guide Equals Outstanding Tour
Aug. 2018 • Couples
We were supposed to go on a whale watching adventure, but found out at 7:15 am on the dock that the boat had been broken for several days and the tour was canceled. So we got on the shuttle bus that dropped up off at the Harrigan Centennial Hall which is a wonderful new facility downtown with large clean restrooms, an information booth and a Sitka History museum. We were there early and noticed some tour departure signs out front, so we waited a while and booked a 2 hour Sitka Wildlife Tour with Rhonda.

This was a van tour with 9 people that covered the local historical sites, the Totem Poles and the park next to it with the wonderful hiking trail and salmon stream and the admission to the Fortress of the Bear. Robin was our tour guide who has lived in Sitka for many years, and knows the town and the history very well. We went to where the WWII amphibious base was located which now is the local school and college where she is a dorm mother during the school year.

Then we went to the Totem Pole Park and were amazed by them. Robin took us (and her bear spray) on a short hike through the park pointing out native plants and places where bears had recently been sited. Then we came upon a large stream with an excellent bridge over it that was filled with salmon. It was a real treat to see so many salmon packed into one place.

Then it was off to the Fortress of the Bear. Along the way, Robin gave us a complete history of Sitka, showed us Castle Hill where the Alaska sale documents were signed, filled us in on the industries that had come and gone and how they get their water from a dammed lake and showed us their hydro electricity plant. Robin is a volunteer at the Fortress of the Bears where she knows the history and personalities of each bear. She even got one to clap it's paws for us. You can also designate the Fortress of the Bear as a charity on Amazon Smile. We had plenty of time to take many excellent pictures. On the way back, Robin offered to drop passengers off at the Raptor Center which several people did.

This was an excellent tour that packed a lot into two hours. Robin is an excellent tour guide who knows the history of the area very well, provides an insiders guide to Sitka, and enhanced our Fortress of The Bear trip by knowing each bear and their personalities. From what started out as a bust with the canceled tour turned into a home run with the Sitka Wildlife Tour, and that is The Bottom Line.

My 2017 visites to the Sitka's Fortress of the bear
Aug. 2017 • Family
My family and I enjoyed visiting the Sitka's Fortress Of the Bears, there are several giant brown and black bears to see in a large former sewer tank plant plus see other wild animals in captivity.

This is about as close as you can get to see Alaskan wildlife in a safe environment.
