Everything you could want for guided walks in NW Scotland
This was a great week of recreation and an introduction to outstanding scenery and lovely people. I am so grateful to Ben and Rob for their first-class leadership as educators and as great guides. They rapidly assessed our competency on training walks and then tuned the week to provide us with a superb overview of the area as well as walks that were always rewarding. The archaeology and geology commentary was a huge enhancement. and we were directed to both the best sandwich shop I have ever entered and diverse and tasty evening venues. You could not reasonably ask for more.

Competent, interesting and experienced guiding in a great part of Scotland for hiking coast and hill.
Top rate guiding over a week of hiking around Ullapool and further north, by experienced, interesting, knowledgeable and likeable local guides Ben and Robbie. They competently adapted hikes to the capabilities (and knees) of our not so young group. Interesting routes, often off-piste in glens, over passes and moors and along the startlingly beautiful coast, with good knowledge of the country, history and current issues of the places we visited. Good to be in their hands. Accommodation, evening meal reservations and lunches equally well-organised. Would book with them again.

Superb hill and coastal walks with exceptional guides
Just back from a week's hill and coastal walking around Ullapool with six friends guided by Ben and Robbie. Glorious scenery, walks perfectly attuned to our interests and needs, so lots of time for chatting and laughter, looking at wildflowers, wildlife and archaeological sites, and generally having an exceptionally good time. Ben and Robbie are not just experienced and professional guides, but extremely interesting people and great company. Ben had arranged our B&B accommodation (excellent) and evening meals in a range of local eateries, took our sandwich orders and drove us to and from various destinations. Highly recommended, even if you are 70 (our average age)!

      Beinn Dearg Four Munro Circuit
Robbie was an excellent guide to lead us up the Beinn Dearg four munro circuit. We set off at 8.30am and arrived back at the car 12hrs later. We were blessed with fine weather and great visibility so took our time to enjoy the incredible surroundings. Robbie was brilliant, setting a good pace and advising on kit and clothing and when to add and remove layers throughout the day. He was hugely knowledgeable about everything, from flora & fauna and wildlife to the mountains around us. We felt we were in excellent hands and completely comfortable in his company. A great company with excellent communication before, during and after our hike. We will definitely be back and use Mackenzie Mountaineers to help us bag some more munros. Thanks

Big day in the mountains with an excellent guide
What a brilliant day we had on the mountains with our guide Robbie. We took on the Beinn Dearg four Munro circuit which was a challenging day out. Robbie pitched the pace just right and was excellent easy going company. We learnt so much about the local area, Gaelic pronunciation, flora & fauna and from the summits the names of all the other mountains we could see. Very highly recommended and will definitely book again - but maybe one mountain at a time next time 😀.

Suberb walking week in north Mallorca.
What a fantastic week! The organisation was excellent, with really good simple hotel accommodation in lovely Port de Soller, airport transfers, briefings, communication, and a superbly varied daily programme of walks. The walks took us everywhere you would want to go in the sublime landscapes of the Tramuntana mountains of north Mallorca, including Valldemossa, Deia, and Cala Tuent. Transfers back were included on most days, which included minibuses, a boat trip, and the famous old tram from Soller town. The walking was really good, and Rosie made sure that everyone in our small group of retirees was managing OK. We were there in peak citrus season, so the trees were drooping with oranges, lemons and limes, so great OJ! The welcome dinner and three included lunches were exceptional and all quite different - fortunately the fulsome late lunches (with wine) were all pretty much at the end of the day's walking! Not just a great experience, but really good value as well. Thanks so much Rosie Mckenzie (and Ben too)!

Great walks with excellent guides; friendly, relaxed and well planned.
We joined the “highlights of Tenerife” hiking tour, and loved the experience. We started our walks in the south, with hikes into the Teide National Park, and then progressed into the beautiful Anaga mountains in the North of the island. Rosie and Ben are excellent guides with a wealth of knowledge about the flora and fauna of Tenerife. All the accommodation was excellent and we felt the tour was excellent value for money.

Perfect and highly recommended walking adventure
I had an amazing time with Ben & Rosie on the Orkney Explorer Trip! The trip was the perfect balance of walking, culture/sightseeing and personal/free time. Their choice of B&Bs and restaurants was awesome and had a local touch that made the experience of these wonderful islands even more special. Ben & Rosie were very knowledgeable and provided many details about history and life on the islands, while making sure everyone of our small group had a great experience. This was my second time booking with McKenzie Mountaineering and I will definitely look into the other trips for my next hiking vacation in Scotland. Highly recommended!

      Three fabulous family hiking days!
We had three truly beautiful hiking days with our two teenage daughters and our guide Pete. Actually the three best days during our 3-week trip to Scotland! Ben, Rosie and Pete took care of everything, organized a really nice b&b, and even pre-booked dinner tables. The hikes were fabulous but still very doable for our girls… beautiful river gorges, blue green coast lines, an off-the-grid village, mountains, white beaches… and even dolphins! Would absolutely recommend!

      The multi-layered beauty of Scotland
Ben and Rosie gave us a professional, extremely well organised walking experience. They selected every time the most suited hiking destinations, adapting the program to the weather conditions. We encountered every day a totally different type of Scottish nature and landscapes. The entire stay they provided us with useful tips regarding hiking, what to wear, where to eat, where to hear music in a pub. Last but not least: they are very nice people.

      Incredible trip with incredible guides!
Rosie & Ben are incredible guides! 10/10 recommend. They took us on the West Highland Way in Scotland (along with guest guides Tom and Pete). They made everything so easy and enjoyable for our group (which was huge!). They took care of arranging our accommodations, transporting luggage, picking meal spots, and setting the pace of our hike. The trail was absolutely gorgeous and Rosie and Ben were able to teach us tons about the local faun and flora, customs, and history. Plus they were fun! I was very impressed with how well everything was organized and absolutely recommend them.

      Incredible experience
Rosie & Ben were amazing! They led a large group of us on the West Highland Way in Scotland. Everything was perfectly organized, including all the lodgings, meals, and walking. Despite the large group there were no issues at all. And the walks were incredible! Ben & Rosie and Pete and Tom were so knowledgeable and had great stories to share. They kept us to schedule and ensured we made it safely, while taking time to appreciate the breathtaking views and scenery. This was my first trip like this and I'm so glad I was able to complete it with Rosie & Ben. Highly, highly recommend.

Wonderful guides who provided a truly custom and special experience
7 years ago, Rosie organized everything for our Scotland hiking honeymoon. We wanted a mix of glamping and cute BnBs, try some down to earth pubs and some farm to table places, as well as do some lengthy day hikes around Scotland. Rosie picked us up from Edinburgh, and guided us through wonderful hikes in the Cairngorms, Highlands, incl Ben Nevis and Glencoe. The hikes, the food, and the accommodations were fantastic. Rosie and Ben were so lovely that I asked them to organize our 7-year anniversary trip. This time, we brought 18 friends with us to hike the West Highland Trail. We had a blast. Food was excellent pub fare with the last day at lovely farm to table places. They organized all of the lodging which were very cute and met our needs, the hike was spectacular, and the team was great. They made the trip just lovely. Thank you to Rosie, Ben, Pete and Tom!

I had been trying to plan this trip for quite some time and Rosie & Ben were great for replying to all my queries including worries.
Although I can confidently ride a bike with a reasonable level of fitness I am an absolute beginner in mountain biking. Some of the trail going into Suilven even the most experienced would have to push. Steadily on our return I did get a lot more confident but don’t think this is an easy ride if you’ve never done before.
I found the ascent not too difficult which was maybe down to us cycling over 7k before we started climbing. There were times where we stopped for a break, not just to catch our breath but to admire the views.
All in all an absolute fantastic day and the only way that I would have felt confident in climbing Suilven.
Rosie & Ben, can’t wait to go walking / climbing again.

Our guide Sandy guided me and family friends along the shoreline and then up to the mountain top above Ullapool. The scenery was breathtaking and Sandy's explanation of the local history and geology was most interesting. As great as the day hike was, it was surpassed by the attention and care Sandy provided. At all times he was focused on the guest hikers, and when one guest encountered some difficulty on the descent, due to a hip replacement, Sandy provided hiking poles and assisted in the descent, while evoking calm and assurance from all of us. This was an outstanding day and one of the best days on our trip.

I joined their 2021 west highland way tour and walked 96 miles in 7 days which was the best experience for me. Our tour guides, Rosie and Ben, were extremely helpful, kind, considerate, and professional. It was my first time to walk multiple days continuously and I would not be able to complete 96 miles without their advices and encouragements. I highly recommend joining tours orgainsed by Mckenzie Mountaineering.

If you have ever wanted to walk the West Highland Way but been daunted by the prospect of booking accommodation, carrying luggage, getting lost, giving up, I can thoroughly recommend McKenzie Mountaineering to take full control of all of that. You only have to turn up (in the right gear, of course). Rosie and Ben are lovely, very welcoming, encouraging and they organised a great walk for a great group people. I would definitely book with them again. By the way, the only thing they forgot to organise was the great Scottish weather. 😁 Thank you Rosie, Ben and Corrie for the best ever experience. ❤

This was honestly the best walking vacation that we could have wished for in Gran Canaria.
Rosie and Ben, our guides, made the experience an excellent adventure. They provided an excellent itinerary, which catered perfectly for a mixed ability group, our six day walk was perfect.
Rosie and Ben are both very knowledgeable about the areas that that they take you to and their exceptional organisation skills allowed us the most amazing walking holiday hassle free.
McKenzie Mountaineering provides exceptional value and it is well worth trying one of their guided walking/hiking tours.

We just did a half day hillwalk led by Ben, the Coffin Road to Clachan Church. It was an excellent experience, and Ben was really thoughtful, pointed out lots of amazing plants, and interpreted the landscape for us, even though the views were a bit hampered! In fact we were in and above the clouds and mist much of the time, but this didn't dampen the experience for myself and my son and our dog. The great chats all along the way took my mind off tired legs! I would recommend the experience, knowing we were in good hands and were not going to get lost (!). I look forward to going on another adventure with Ben and Rosie.

We did a hike to Scoraig peninsula, which was fantastic. Our guide organised a RIB boat crossing from Ullapool to take us to the start of the walk, and we were also incredibly lucky to see a pod of dolphins with their young while doing the crossing. This was a very special start to the day. We then crossed over the hill into the off-grid village before walking along a dramatic coastal path. Our Guide Rosie is a very knowledgeable and told us lots of interesting facts about the village community and we learnt so much from her about the flora.

The pace of the walk accommodated people with varying levels of fitness and we all finished the walk feeling like we had achieved a substantial walk without feeling exhausted. This was because the group all chatted with each other and whenever Rosie stopped to allow people to chat up, she had a story to tell about the plant or animal life, which meant we weren’t thinking about the distance we walked or the fact we were allowing some people to catch up: it was so well judged.

As a result of doing this walk I signed up to do another walk which I will write a separate review for.
I would highly recommend McKenzie Mountaineering.

We had a brilliant day walking up to the corrie below the ridge at An Teallach with McKenzie Mountaineering. It was not too demanding a walk but the views of surrounding hills were amazing and Loch toll an Lochain where we stopped for lunch is a very special place. Ben was a perfect guide - friendly, encouraging and knowledgeable- we learned a lot about the local mountains, wild flowers and history. We will definitely be booking with McKenzie again soon as there lots of other good walks available in this area.

Since first coming to the area of Assynt in 2004, I have wanted to go up Suilven and this year I finally did, with the much appreciated leadership and guidance of Ben. What a day! In the build up, Ben and Rosie were excellent with plenty of useful information and support. I felt prepared and ready. Ben picked me up and we started the day with an amazing cycle ride close to the start of the ascent. Ben was very knowledgeable regarding all things bikes and was appreciated going over tricky terrain. On the walking section, again Ben was very supportive and of course on the ride back. A thoroughly enjoyable day was made even better by Ben’s excellent and friendly company, fantastic support and knowledge and of course in completing the long sought after challenge. I would easily recommend this company and Ben and Rosie to anyone thinking of going up Suilven or any of their other activities and can’t wait for next year to have another adventure with them. Many thanks for a brill day!

Having waited this trip for 2 years it was all I could hope for and then some. 10 days of hikes, walks, castles, beaches, mountains and whisky tastings. The hikes were awesome, some more challenging than others and views to die for. I really enjoyed this tour as whisky and hiking are my favorite hobbies. I have hiked with Ben before so I am a returning customer and really looking forward doing more trips with Rosie.
