Overview
Ride along the historic Ohakune Old Coach Road at your own pace on this 4-hour unguided bike trail. This native bush corridor on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu is an exciting adventure, a journey back in time. Ride past the concrete piers for the bridge which crossed the Haeremaere Stream on the original railway alignment, the steel lattice Taonui Railway Viaduct, and enjoy expansive views across the Waimarino Plains and of the mighty Mt Ruapehu, magnificent Rimu trees and of course the Hapuawhenua Viaduct. A fantastic day ride for people of all ages and abilities.

From Ohkaune there is a 3 km uphill grind over cobble stones, the original surface of the Old coach Road. Therefore it is rough going and we were very glad of our battery assistance. Great track although very narrow and need to take it easy in some parts. Wonderful scenery

I biked a section of the Old Coach Road this week and although I enjoyed the experience, I do have two significant reservations: (1) there does need to be more information regarding the appropriate bike for this trail. I rode it from the Ohakune end, on my Trek Conduit e-bike.

This was our first time doing the Old Coach Rd bike trail, & in summary it wasn't easy, but it was worth it! We went as a family group, aged 9-60years & we all got to the end relatively unscathed! Although they estimate it takes 2-3hrs to complete & we took 3.5 :) I would

We rented nice bikes from the Ohakune Mountain Bike Station and they shuttled us and the bikes to the trailhead. The scenic Old Coach Road is a treasure and an adventure, offering a mix of pioneer stories, spectacular native forests, impressive old viaducts, volcanic scenery and
