It's amazing how short the hike is without a good bright light. Phone lights are not enough, you can only see the ground. The caves are spectacular though. Could be dangerous if you fall down. The entry stairs are fairly steep but it's a fun...More

They don’t bother telling you at the gate that the tube is closed, you just find out for yourself. Don’t expect it to ever reopen.

The lava tubes remain closed due to safety concerns unstable and such. Still plenty else to see and you can find lava tubes all around teh Island that are safe.

Was looking forward to showing one of our past favorite attractions to grandson, but NPS has not been able to assure the safety of the structure, and the tube, trails and parking area remain closed. Always worth a visit, Volcanoes NP currently has an expanded...More

Plenty of other this so see in the park - don't be discouraged if this was your planned destination. Check out the visitor's center at the park and stay for the "Ranger talk" to get some fresh ideas.

We were here as part of a tour group. Some of the tube had collapsed making the going a little rough for some, but it's worth a visit. As a tip shine your flashlight up to the ceiling, some reflects silent, some gold.

It is sad that this sight may never open again but then that is nature. And please remove Thurston's name he did not discover it.

My family and I visited the National Park in November of 2017 - fantastic place. They convinced me to go through the Thurston Lava tube - I am claustrophobic so while I loved the scenery the tube was done very quickly. After the recent eruptions...More

A simple and easy walk through. We saw many tour groups going through, which should indicate that it's a pretty easy walk and nothing too treacherous. It was very dark inside and they advised that we would only need flashlights after dark, but we still...More
