The Vulcanos National Park is definitely a must see on Big Island. It's amazing to see how the lava formed the Hawaiian islands.

Long drive to see . . . not much. No volcanic activity. Crater is bigger. Whoopee. Many trails closed. Long drive does have some great scenery.

For anyone not accustomed to the power and majesty of volcanoes- this is a must see National Park. There is great hiking (Mauna Iki was our favorite) and the Chain of Craters road was awesome to follow to the very end. (I recommend starting before...More

Part of the park is off limits because the the lava flows last year but, still, a worthwhile experience. Those steam vents are HOT. Don't get too close. The lunch at the Volcano House is worth the money. Really reasonably priced. And the drive down...More

Visiting Hawaii Volcanoes national park should be the first thing to do while visiting The big island of Hawaii. Amazing place. I fell in love when I first arrived to this place. Volcanic steam everywhere and the view of the volcanoes is incredible. I enjoyed...More

The volcanoes and eco-systems are dramatic and can be fascinating, yet the site is rather difficult to explore/comprehend in a short visit because thick forest and limited road access, and self-imposed time visit limitations often constrain visitors to too much driving, and a few parking...More

We only spent about 45 minutes to an hour here but I'd recommend much more time. We listened to an excellent description of the big island and it's volcanic history while we looked at the 3-D map at the visitor center. Then we walked a...More

If you make it to the BIG Island, you must go see this marvel of nature. Recent eruptions have limited some of your access, but there is still much to see. Keep in mind that this is still and active volcanic area and there are...More

Inn on the park Honolulu might be okay, not sure of your budget or how many nights, it is listed on booking, if that helps.

Download the Shaka guide in your App Store. We did minor hikes.. very minor.. we say most of the volcano stuff in one day.. if you like it enough, you can take 2 days.

One day should do it and when up at volcano wear a protective face mask. YOu do not want to breathe the steam for it contains many small glass particles that can really mess up your lungs.
