We toured the island on our own and the salt mounds most definitely stand out. If we would have taken a guided tour we probably would have gotten more of the history.

Bonaire is famous about the sea salt production. About 1/7 of the island is for the 'creating' of this high quality product. Already for more than 4 centuries and exported all over the world. Climate conditions, sea water quality and last but not least....the highly...More

When our ship docked in Bonaire we rented Golf Carts and spent the day exploring. We rode out here and were so impressed by the beauty. Sounds silly since it's just mountains of salt and pink sandy wetlands but it was really neat! There were...More

As others have stated, not much to do here but watch how the salt is created...which is amazing! No tours, so you just observe from the side of the road. This place is owned by the Cargill family and they have quite an impressive setup...More

This was just a beautiful area of the island - above and below water. As thrilled as we were there was not a ship there (so we could dive it) we also were very curios to see what it would have been like if it...More

Worth driving by to see the colors and salt bubbles. I wish I took a tour and got to stay longer. I would try and research to see if you can play in them.

Interesting the process to make salt !! From the ocean to holding pools, amazing the amount of salt is created and exported.
