It doesn't take long to explore Punda. Lots of colorful buildings and the old market. the floating market was not operational at the time we visited. Lots of upscale jewelry stores (no tax) for some reason.
Absolutely gorgeous area, the colors and architecture are out of this world. This area is also the main one shown on magnets, ornaments, and other pieces of art, so it's neat to visit it before you get your souvenir.
Punda is a beautiful place near the port. It has the iconic buildings there. Also, tons of shopping and restaurants. The restaurants a few blocks away from the port are cheaper with very authentic dishes.

We had no trouble finding a taxi at any time. By the way, it was strongly recommended by our tour guide, a local, that if you are out past 9pm on the island, that you take taxi anywhere you want to go for safety reasons.
