Probably the only decent thing to do if sightseeing in puerto plata.
The views are great and the altitude offers relief from the heat.
The souvenir shops are crappy and a rip off. Would not buy anything from there.
Just go for the ride up...More
Great ride and great view! At the top people will use your phone to talk super cool pictures for you. I would take some cash to tip. Food and drink are offered at the top. Free wifi and clean bathrooms are at the bottom.

The trip in the car up gives you an amazing view, as does the mountain top. Beautiful. However fitting 19-20 people in the car you are back to back, neck to neck. It would be more enjoyable with say a dozen people per trip.

If you are in Puerto Plata or vecinities, any taxi driver in any form can take you there. The price will vary with by the number of passangers and distance from your location. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to go up to the mountain walk around and appreciate the natural beauty. If you like your driver, or if the driver was recommended by your hotel, give him a time to be back, and he will.
When I went we were brought there on a bus did the cable car tour and then we were returned on the bus. The tour I took was a city tour so we did the cable car they brought us into the city and we also went and saw the fort.
