Absolutely loved everything about this Hacienda. Two story lodges (I was on the upper story) set in beautiful surroundings, food and service - faultless! This Hacienda has a working museum producing henequen (sizal) for rope / rug making etc. The tour of the henequen is...More

I really enjoyed the Hacienda Sotuta de Peon. I took the English tour and our tour guide (Ian?) spoke perfectly and made the history of the hacienda come alive. We were able to meet with Don Antonio, the old gentleman who has lived there for...More

My very close friend and I toured the hacienda today after much discussion about how to travel there. Not knowing how we would get home, we decided to Uber and throw caution to the wind. My friend assured me that the staff at Hacienda Sotuta...More

Very nice hacienda only 45 min from Mérida. This is one of the very few haciendas that are in function. We had an English speaking guide - very good. We ended the tour with a visit to the Cenote that was on the property.

It's pricey, but worth it. Sotuta de Peon was a grand hacienda in its glory days, and now it is a well-preserved hacienda that still produces hennequen while it educates visitors about the history of the industry in Yucatan. Great restaurant on site.

Our guide recommended this place, and I was a bit doubtful. But the tour was worth the time. You get to see a small but pristine (renovated) hacienda and to learn the history of the sisal industry and how this area was a leader in...More

Our visit was just great...we arrived at 1pm and joined the tour with our 16 and 14 year old “kids”. The first half was the history and process of the “sisal”. Great to understand the process and the machines involved in the making of a...More

The hennequin industry is very interesting to learn about. We arrived late and missed the whole production end of the tour, but still enjoyed ourselves. The tour groups are small (20-ish people) and we all sat on the wagon cart on rails, which was fun...More
